  1. Cool bike. I didn't know about the licensing requirements. Always learning. Sometimes useful, other times just interesting. I had mine stolen from the school bike shed while locked. Must have been around 2000, the not so good recent days. Had to walk home for months
  2. If anyone is interested, there is a bicycle safety, law and infrastructure debate happening in Cape Town tonight. I'm not sure if it has been posted on The Hub already. Link: https://www.facebook...43433462506650/ All valid points. Except "Advocating not wearing a helmet in any city is not constructive...". If your aim is to get people on bicycles, then yes it has been shown to be extremely constructive to not have mandatory helmet laws. As a result, many pro-commuting organisations advocate letting the commuter decide. In places like Amsterdam commuters believe that there is not sufficient need to wear a helmet. If the risk of head injury is indeed low, then why force them? In South Africa, I believe commuters should take more precaution. I would definitely wear a full face helmet but for the discomfort. However, this is perceived to be an acceptable risk to take. I even went as far as getting an AM/trail helmet to cover the back of my pip. The question is how far do we go in the quest for safety? Some militant Aussies made this video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ujs6DJAMGp0
  3. I am genuinely interested in the topic of helmet use and was hoping for some constructive debate. For those interested, helmet laws around the world, from Wikipedia:
  4. You must consider that the cycling culture, bikes, distances, speeds, and infrastructure in Europe is very different to that in SA. This is were I do not feel that wearing helmet is necessary or practical. In SA, I commute almost everyday and never leave without my lid. http://bicycledutch.files.wordpress.com/2013/03/amsterdam.jpg Some cities are even avoiding mandatory helmet laws to encourage commuting: http://www.nytimes.c...wanted=all&_r=0 And this is an interesting finding. Cycling the leading sport for head injuries in America: http://well.blogs.ny...-head-injuries/. I like to see the stats per participate instead of just total of injuries.
  5. Wearing no helmet makes sense when commuting in a commuter friendly cities e.g. Amsterdam. And I think this kind of riding is what much of the no helmet debate is actually focussing on. There is no chance I'd ride my local trail without covering on my pip. P.S. I read somewhere that the percentage of injuries in car accidents being head injuries is only slightly lower than that measured in cycling injuries. Why no helmets for cars? It's all about perceived risk ;-)
  6. How about some skinny jeans at least? It's cool enough for the skateboarders, who all used to wear insane baggies
  7. I think this may be it: http://2013.handmadebicycleshow.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/02/Level-builder-award-793x1024.jpg
  8. I buy games, books and computer components (when cheap) from them all the time. However, bike prices would have to come down before I considered them for that purpose.
  9. Thanks for the info. Not just a corporate beast but a LBS that saw a gap Imagine ordering parts via mail order.
  10. This is a shame. I hope it's just a case of absent mindedness or laziness.
  11. It's not like cycling is the only industry that has had to deal with the internet. Just ask the book stores. Adapt or die is the simple truth. I'm still happy to pay a bit more when I need some advice or technical input but otherwise if I know exactly what I want, why should I pay someone extra for the luxury of walking into their store? Anyway, sometimes the stores are cheaper
  12. That's what all 26"riders say
  13. Delayed but a reply nonetheless. One up on no reply
  14. How does one delete a double post?
  15. Looks amazing! All I need now is some skill and balls, oh, and a proper bike... So everything really. Maybe I'll come watch
  16. I just start any exercise slowly... I've never felt right stretching.
  17. Does she have a full face helmet? Always thought we should drive our cars with helmets.
  18. My new role model. How is this guy not a meme?

What's a road bike doing in the rough?
  20. More discussion on this topic: http://projectmillen...bad-for-biking/ Sports cycling or on South African roads (potholes and cars)/ underdeveloped cycling infrastructure without a doubt put a helmet on but European style commuting I feel it less important.
  21. The battle for the mountain has just begun However, I have not doubt that everyone can be accommodated, just going to take some planning and education. There will always be a few tjops though.
  22. This trend blows my mind. I run in the forests to escape unnecessary noise and clutter. When sticking headphones in I feel that you might as well be running on a tread mill or in traffic. And then there is the safety issue... Ride them over, I say But I might be missing the appeal.
  23. I know Momsen make a ladies framed bike: http://momsenbikes.com/bikes.cfm?prod=la329_12. That's as far as my knowledge on the subject extends.
  24. I'm even starting to drive my car like this. People are crazy on the road...
