  1. If it's grey like the shop claims, then it is still a real Pinarello. If it's a complete fake, then they lied to you twice. It's likely still a very good frame.
  2. Why beg, plead and get all excited about a 650B Specialized that may or may not come to South Africa when we already have a selection of 650B factory and custom build options on our shores? Are people really this brand befok that they'd rather go without than ride another brand?
  3. Upgrade to a hardtail
  4. Maybe slightly but it looks pretty standard.
  5. I converted my bike to 1x9 by simply removing the chainrings and putting on a standard 32T singlespeed chainring. That is all. No narrow/wide, no chain guides. I had full confidence in it. I believe the wider 9 speed chain sticks better than a 10 speed though.
  6. Can't wait for the whole of Tokai to get cut down. I find our local plants are far more interesting. Assuming the authorities do their job (which I feel they are seriously neglecting at present). Anyone know if the climate on the upper slopes of Tokai could support some afromontane like above Kirstenbosch and Newlands? For those that complain about the lack of shade
  7. Not a hard bike to spot. With those bars, the riders reach alone is a give away. Let's hope someone calls it in.
  8. *Tin foil hat on* There is a live tracking partner. Someone is parting with their cash for this arrangement and don't want another service treading on their toes. Like when you can only get one type of beer at a sporting event. *Tin foil hat off* Is this a rule new?
  9. This. But unicyclists assure me it doesn't take as long as you think. Ya, right
  10. So much for transport integration.
  11. Then continental Europe must blow your mind
  12. It makes me feel faster when I slide forward. There still needs to be some tweaking.
  13. Thanks! The chain has already been used on another single speed bike for a good distance, so hoping it is mostly stretched out. The tension is currently a bit strong so a little more stretch will help it settle in. If not, I'll throw a tensioner on or play with some half links but crossing my fingers it won't come to that. I do have my eye on a more suitable frame though, pending some financial growth
  14. I took the plunge, converted my one and only bike. Finished it yesterday. Yet to be tested on the mountain but I got excited just riding it on the road. The bike:
  15. Also consider getting wider bars. Might allow a shorter bike to feel longer (if that is a problem).
  16. I just suck the moisture from the air.
  17. You ordered a bike for that much money and haven't seen the specs?
  18. What are you looking for? Might help in pointing you in the right direction.
  19. I often see single speed riders carrying their bike in or on the back of their cars. They then stop at a trail and ride it for a few hours, after which they then put it back on or in the car. I can only imagine they must be practising this method of cheating to go unnoticed on race days
  20. 1x9 is even cheaper. Yes, I'm a thrifty bastard at the moment but a little stronger for it.
  21. Video says it best: http://vimeo.com/83873911
  22. The uni crew are great fun. Good to have them on the mountain. And their skills really put the two wheelers in their place
  23. A lot of people advocating lawlessness in this thread. Viva anarchy viva!

    Traffic circle

Despite what the gutter law says, I find keeping left very unsafe in some circumstances. Circles, with cars coming in and out, and drivers generally being confused, cyclists need to be seen and respected, and therefore (I believe) in the middle of the road. If you want the law on your side, the new regulations are extremely vague and need to be properly interpreted before they can cited with certainty. The regulation states Now, does "practicable" include the riders safety concerns (in places like a circle) or is it only concerned with physical road conditions? Sadly, this may require a few more deaths/ injuries before it is clarified.

    Not Dangerous

So much money is spent on roads for cars that few can afford (even some of the owners struggle to pay for them each month). Bicycles are far more accessible to the average South Africa and much cheaper to maintain. We just need to start catering for the average person with suitable bikes like what Qhubeka offers. Definitely this.
