  1. It is unfortunate that only a few girls turned up to race, but as has been mentioned before Rika cannot acquire any UCI points if she wishes to defend her Masters World Champs title in Norway this year (which she plans to do) and a lot of the other girls unfortunately had prior commitments or were injured. Yes it is not ideal, but it is where we currently find ourselves in SA. It would be awesome having more girls on the track and I really hope that the enduro scene will help to add to the numbers and that everyone (girls & boys) realize that you don't have to be smashing every obstacle on the track to compete (you can roll pretty much every track in SA without your wheels leaving the ground). That said, congrats to Hayley she survived the weekend and was in the end the winner on the day and that can not be taken away from her. I personally had a rad weekend (1st time riding in the Cape) surrounded by like minded people who love to ride their bikes. Good times!
  2. I snapped my clavicle with an Omega Brace fitted. That said I went in directly on my shoulder and I feel the brace played no part in the eventual outcome. Patches knows a guy (dirt bike Enduro rider) who believes a Leatt was responsible for (or at least added to) a broken back. He went down at the start of a race and had two guys ride over him. The break was at the edge of the back plate of the Leatt and he feels the braced directed the impact. That said, what would the outcome have been if he wasn't wearing a brace? Unlike a helmet which is a no-brainer, a neck brace is really one of those items you have to make your own call on.
  3. I see all protective gear as an insurance policy. It has you covered for most of the time, but sometimes when the k@k hits the fan it ads to your problems. Best thing is to do your own research on various brands trawl some of the online threads about incidents and then make your own call. Personally I chose to ride with one most of the time.
  4. Gives a good perspective: http://vimeo.com/84390465
  5. Not quite dirt jumping, but very cool riding. Brakeless too http://www.pinkbike.com/video/344576/
  6. That 10mm stem makes that bike look really odd.
  7. That is a pretty nifty idea
  8. That's why his nickname is Surly Steve.
  9. Ha ha that is classic. I know Kevin Smith, one of the local JHB climbing hardmen (back in the day) climbed Arrow Final (an easy route up 'the mountain' under the cable car, pretty much) with his dog! Dog had a harness and was apparently assisted through sections, but ultimately topped out. Probably the only K9 ascent of that piece of rock
  10. Got halfway up Oceans in Dec 2007 and had to bail on Christmas day due to rain (having spent the night on a ledge). Would love to go back and finish this one off, but that won't be happening anytime soon. Would need to get climbing fit again... Hanging out. The ledge Good times!
  11. It's also very worth while entering the Enduro too (only costs R50 extra) and you'll get to play on your bike for a bit longer
  12. As Patchey has stated the offending soil was removed. There is still a slight hump on the right to get some sweet air, but it ain't what it used to be. Sad thing is if the moles do burrow there the heap they leave behind will look quite *** until the grass eventually grows back. Lets not point fingers too fast, we're not 100% sure who or why that beautifully grassed hump was removed.
  13. I also noticed that this weekend. The odd thing is that lump that was removed was insitu soil and was never brought in... Pretty odd that it was removed TBH.
  14. It is such an awesome spot and a truly spectacular wall. I have unfinished business there... (if I ever start climbing again)
  15. What these kids are doing and what Greg Lacey did are two very different things. Greg Lacey was a pioneer of modern free climbing in RSA and helped introduce probably SA's best climber to sport AdK (Andrew de Klerk). Greg was killed in an avalanche in the Alps (in Charmonix if i'm not mistaken) pursuing what he loved doing! http://youtu.be/d0eXDpTO2EE
  16. Not super impressive (pretty dof actually) but it does get the hands sweating. http://youtu.be/r6divyNPlzo
  17. I'll be there for the DHI event at Contermans Kloof (race is happening on Sunday) Will be my 1st MTB trip to CT
  18. I've seen a couple of these helmets out on the trails up here. Haven't seen the knee pads... I stand to be corrected but I think International Trade are bringing in IXS.
  19. You obviously have too much vinyl on your hands! Looking good Patchey
  20. I had an older model and my head also measure between M & L around the 57/58cm mark. I bought the helmet in Large and ended up selling as it used to rattle ever so slightly. Since then I've always gone for a medium and had a good fit (with various brands). If it is a touch tight to start with, the foam will compress and you should get a decent fit in the end.
  21. Could pass as a spruit rat if you just tweaked the background http://ep1.pinkbike.org/p4pb10268489/p4pb10268489.jpg
  22. Same same, but different (affect on your wallet!).
  23. You got the new hubs and rims already?!
  24. Perhaps you can just build them straight across... Or get a set of new Tesla Evo hubs... That lime green doesn't really work anyway
