  7. They are awesome machines, I'm currently on my 2nd one, although it has been horribly neglected recently. The KTM happy buttons are flippen brilliant in tech terrain, but they are quite unreliable and do require some love to keep them 'happy'. The best aftermarket addition is however a Rekluse semi-auto clutch. I have one on my older bike and it really is like cheating when you get into the more technical terrain. My mechanic was telling me that for Roof this year a lot of the guys he wrenches for have now ditched the clutch lever all together and run brakes, much like a bicycle set up, which just gives the rider a bit more control. I may consider this as I've always struggled a bit with the foot brake. Okay, I am not derailing this thread any further. Sorry Stretch
  8. The new generation 2-strokes have tamed the nutty powerbands of older generation engines. The KTM 300XC-w for example is a fairly manageable beast with plenty of low down grunt (obviously also sprocket dependent) and fairly consistent power through the rev range, but you don't have to ring the things neck to get it to give you power. 4-strokes have definitely come along way and if rumours are to be believed the 2-stroke will be phased/regulated out in Europe & The States (which will effectively kill the market I think) due to the engine still burning oil. That said if I'll still be on a 2-stroke for enduro for a while as the engines are just so robust, plus if the engine does go pop you're not looking at a R20k - R30k rebuild, like a 4-stroke.

  10. If you want to play Russian Roulette every time you twist the throttle you could consider this... 700cc 2-stroke nightmare! http://i259.photobucket.com/albums/hh289/coxshall/DSCF0848.jpg
  11. Agreed. I believe bikes will be either 650b or good ol' 26" and that will be up to the rider to decide, much like the Lappiere & Gstaad-Scott Teams. Same goes for the Enduro World Series, although I do think you'll see the odd 29r making an appearance & the odd podium there.

  13. Not really. Just someone out in sponsored race kit for a Spruit ride stands out.
  14. USN race kit covered in tattoos? Rigid 29r?
  15. Back to the topic... The bike is awesome and it is brilliant that a local rider is getting the privilege of having a signature/replica frame for his achievements in his sport. That said, I don't see too many (if any) being sold locally.
  16. Really? I think this thread was derailed in the 3rd or 4th post by DIPSLICK... Then you had the urge to swing your dick about passing 6" trail bikes on your hartail 29er (big deal ). I'm not sure how a signature model DH bike equates to your awesomeness of overtaking AM bikes on the spruit? Also how does equating a professional road cyclist (Froome) with a recreational rider work and what is the point of this comparison? A couple of you XC blokes seem to have developed serious complexes for some reason? You should really try to have more fun on the bikes you have chosen to own.
  17. Yesterday apparently, filmed at Rivonia. Apparently it's still cruising through various suburbs in Sandton http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wCExAmCmHqQ&feature=share
  18. Damn, I must have stopped paying attention at some point.
  19. I have a G-form iPhone 4/4s case up for grabs if anyone wants (it's brand new, still in the packaging). I won it and unfortunately don't have an iPhone. Cost R150 Shipping at the buyers expense. PM me if you're keen.

  22. Another awesome piece by D4 productions!!! http://vimeo.com/80727531
  23. The stock ZEE drivetrain (for DH) is designed to run with a full chain guide (this is still the norm for DH). I'd suggest either running a top guide only, with the stock ZEE chainring OR running a narrow-wide chainring. You'll be living dangerously pedalling hard under rattly conditions with a stock chainring and the clutch RD...
