  2. Well he is a fairly talented rider The vid just does not do the track justice. The middle switchback section was super-steep!
  3. On track with Pottie. http://vimeo.com/52443902

  5. I ran Avid Elixir CR's for our Morzine trip and they were fine the whole trip (although I did take a bleed kit along, I never had to use it on my brakes). I did bleed them right before the trip with Dot 5.1 fluid and had no real issues of brake fade, so I can't really fault them. That said I do really like a 4 pot brake, it makes a lot more sense to me as there is just more brake pad in contact with the disc, bigger caliper size so more fluid and great area to disapate heat (less likely to fade). If I wasn't such a thrifty spender I'd probably go with the Hopes too. I've only heard good things about them.
  6. Here are the different bushing sizes and the shocks.... --12mm DU Bushing which Fit – Answer Manitou, Rock Shox models (Bar, Ario, MC3, MC3R, and Pearl), and X-Fusion (Vector, O2, & Glyde) Shocks --1/2 inch DU Bushing which Fit – Fox, Cane Creek (all but Double Barrell), Romic, Marzocchi Roco, 5th Element Coil, Rock Shox (Monarch and Vivid), and X-Fusion H3 Shocks EDIT to add: I stole the above info from one of the mtbr forum poss. BUT if you are going to go Fox, get the new plastic spacers. A lot less friction in the system due to the plastic used. I really wanted to try this out a couple years ago with vesconite bushes/spacers, but the cost to get a set machined was what stopped me from trying it out. Definitely the way to go since it's be self lubricating and much more resilient to dust, water & mud. I see fox claim like a 50% reduction in friction in the system... .
  7. The 190mm is the distance between the two mounting bolts (known at the eye to eye length) The 51mm stroke is the length of the shock can move
  8. Well you guys missed out on an amazing event. The track is definitely worth the effort and properly steep!!!!! Overall Results: #1 Pottie #2 Minnaar #3 Tiaan Odendaal #4 Dirk Lourens #5 Alasdair Fey Good times I did mention to some of the guys that numbers were limited due to the fact that a lot of guys have exams happening. Perhaps a date over a long weekend would be better.
  9. That was Tiaan hitting your collar bone breaker at 2:50!
  10. Legal action if some douche decides to ride the jump and brains him/herself.
  11. The highlights vid http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=37dxwVXZ384
  12. Hot Rod. Only one of the coolest movies of all time!
  13. The event takes place next weekend for those interested. I haven't ridden the track, but all the stories I've heard suggest that it is pretty darn cool. http://nsrmtb.co.za/wp-content/uploads/2012/10/Full-poster500.jpg More info can be found on NSRMTB The vid from last years event: http://vimeo.com/32315987
  14. Looks like there only 4 or 5 XC riders in the whole of CT

  16. Yeah, unfortunately one of the guys helping build on Friday (Alec Arthur Loynes) suffered a heart attack while working on Friday. The guys on the track did CPR until the ambulance arrived, after which the medics took over. Unfortunately he never made it. I didn't know Alec very well but my few brief encounters with him were good. He was a good guy with a smile always plastered to his face. All the winners on the day put their prize money towards the family he leaves behind, which I thought was a great gesture. A lot of the riders & spectators put additional cash in. The track was run by the full field in a train in memory of Alec prior to the racing. EDIT to add. I wasn't there at the time of the unfortunate event so my version is very basic and is what I picked up from chatting to some of the guys who were there on the day.
  17. Also, keep in mind that World Champs is happening in PMB 26 Aug - 1 Sept. Masters is the week before 21 - 25 Aug. Going to have to save some leave for that too.
  18. So should we just start a French & Swiss Alps 2013 thread or what? The Istanbul connection makes a lot more sense than Dubai. You drink very wise coffee OM. What brand is it?
  19. OM, is the French government giving you backhanders? If not, they should be. WRT to Whistler, it would be cool but for the cost of the air ticket to get to the other side of the world you can do 2 weeks in France. Not to mention the wasted riding time in getting to & from Canada. It would be cool, but it makes no sense WRT time and cash.
  20. Well I'll just have to have a look at just how AMAZING your spilt coffee was...
  21. I hate it when **** like that happens. Oh well I guess you'll just have to endure another DH trip to the alps.
  22. To ride. The R150 covers entry and shuttles to the start. Watching is free, but posting any decent shots you get on the day on the Hub is mandatory
