They had an issue with a front brake disk - "blew up". Had a quick stop, couldn't fix it, but then carried on more slowly and lost the time.

Once a seagull flew into my path, caught a big fright and instinctively went into defense mode - which for a seagull is to evacuate its bowels at the attacker! Not fun riding, covered in stinking half digested fish and crap!

This is what I see on the site: Membership: All riders taking part in CSA sanctioned events are required to be a Member of CSA for the year in which the race takes place, or to have a valid day license for every day of participation. Membership or a day license is a race entry requirement and is thus a prerequisite to enter a race. Racing license: A racing license allows a rider to represent South Africa and participate in UCI sanctioned events. SA Championship events and SA Colors require a racing license. CSA points will only be given to riders a with full racing license. Racing Licenses are for all riders between 16 years and older. Youth Riders can race and get all the racing license benefits as a CSA Member. So, I assume, if I'm just doing the Nissan National MTB and Trailseeker series for fun, I don't need the Racing Licence. Correct?

Bad news for Glen Grundy - here's what happened (in his own words): "Hey all. Interesting last 24 hours...I had a great 165 km start, transit and racing stage, and at 85km into the special, the Honda's engine blew up. Long line of oil behind me in the desert. Sat there until midnight, when the sweeper loaded my bike. I chased away the chopper twice, which wanted to load me, waiting for my backup to bring some assistance. It was not to be...Policeman brought me back to the bivouac, where it's 5am, and all waking up. My role will now adjust from Moto pilot, to team assistance and support. That's the way the world works sometimes. Ready to go to the dance, but no dancing shoes!!! Brett now has a personal skivvy, for the next 2 weeks. I will send pics and details shortly."

Been to one in Austria. Absolutely mental with a double loop. Scariest part is at the beginning, where the floor just drops out beneath you.
