  1. Those signs have been up for a couple of weeks, standard for OKW to be closed for the tour! Nothing new! The biggest problem is entry and exit for emergency vehicles as having Main Road, Ou Kaapse and Chappies closed could be a disaster with 35000 cyclists on the road!
  2. If the event is cancelled, we will not be refunded our entry fees! It is in the terms and conditions that we all agreed to when we entered! The organisers reserve the right to cancel the event due to unsafe conditions and /or natural disasters. I think it is very short notice to have the route completely changed! Lets wait and see what they say at the press conference at 16h00!
  3. I am with the original poster on this one! If I buy anything and it breaks after 2 months after reasonable use and not abuse, I would definitely return it and definitely expect it to be fixed free of charge. If manufacturers cannot make a buckle that lasts then they should have developed a better buckle and withdrawn the shoes from the market that had defective buckles. I think it boils down to the fact that it is a hassle for shop owners to put the claim in with the supplier and/or agent and therefore takes the easy road and demands that the consumer must cough up to pay! There is an old saying "if you don't keep your customers happy, someone else is going too!' You LBS has lost a customer!
  4. I am amazed that no-one has suggested that you look at a full suspension 650B! In my opinion, the best of both worlds!
  5. It is easy to avoid, just bunnyhop over them!
  6. Careful otherwise you might get your seat post stuck up your arse!
  7. I have a simple philosophy, road bike on the road, MTB(26,29 & 27.5) off road! Find a cheap road bike on The Hub or Gumtree you will not be sorry!
  8. I reckon put the best modern campy group set that you can afford and a nice set of deep section carbon wheels and ride the bike like it was designed and built to be ridden! Don't turn it into a museum piece!
  9. Someone earlier mentioned to check the tyre bead, I had the same hassles and found a puncture just next to the bead, I replaced the tyre and no problem! Also make sure you shake the bottle of sealant properly before putting it in your tyre! I always use more sealant than is suggested! Check that your valve isn't leaking? I always only use Stan's any other sealant does not seem to work as well as Stan's does!
  10. I read about this incident this morning, it is a cycling club that was busy with a training ride! I am not sure that if I had a cycling club and was responsible for the lives of young adults that I would take them out on that stretch of road! I avoid it as much as possible! I am in no way condoning the action of the alleged irate truck driver but just saying that common sense needs to be used before negotiating busy dangerous sections of roads with a cycling club!
  11. The biggest bonus of SRAM is the grip shift! I have been riding them since xrays came out in the early 90's! I rode a buddies bike (xtr) for a few months after my bike was stolen and I did not enjoy the shifting at all! Just over a year ago I bought a 2nd hand bike with x0 3x9 speed grip shift, elixir cr brakes, xt crank! No problems in over a year if riding! Never had to adjust my gears! Only hassle is bleeding of the brakes! I choose SRAM not sure if I would want to go xx1 though, too expensive!
  12. After reading this thread, I have come to the conclusion that there are lots of "opinionated chops" on the hub! Give the man a break, he was making a valid comment!
  13. It is illegal for any vehicle/bicycle to be travelling to the left of the yellow line!
  14. I heard 3rd place Yeti enduro was on 650b wheels!
  15. It is a very sticky unfortunate situation but it can be sorted out! I am sure the consumer protection act has something in it that can help this guy pay NW his money and then get his bike back! Come on hubbers there must be someone out there that knows the legalities to help remedy this situation! This is a fellow cyclists who has made a mistake, surely we can't let him suffer so badly by losing his bike!
  16. I love it when the bad guys are caught! Well done to Shane for doing the right thing! Nice to know the cops reaction was so fast also! I just hope the cops beat the crap out of the thieves!
  17. Unfortunately both are 29ers, why don't you look at some 27,5" alternatives? Apparently best of both worlds!
  18. I have been riding Ksyrium Elites for more than 2 years and no problems at all! Still running true and they are one of the fastest rolling wheels I have ridden! Only complain is the bladed spokes cause bike to move a lot in crosswinds!
  19. Just shows you that the dopers are more advanced in technology than the testers!
  20. I think it is a bit silly to put old parts on new frame anyway! If I was in that position I would choose to replace headset, bb and cables anyway! I was looking at car tyre warranties and if you have a claim, then you pay for the tread that you have used! I think it is fair to pay for reasonable labour costs though!
  21. Well I rode Transbaviaans in the wind and rain, my team finished just before midnight, a lot better than what you were doing! Lol

  23. Wet feet is part and parcel of the Baviaans, change your socks at checkpoint 3 and then again at checkpoint 5, take a old pair of takkies to wear when crossing Gamtoos River thereafter feet should stay relatively dry! Have fun it is an awesome experience, enjoy the scenery, Baviaanskloof is beautiful!
  24. Probably better to remove old hose and replace with a new hose and then bleed brakes properly!
  25. Rear and front brakes on the left, both on the same lever, especially for when you play bicycle polo!
