  1. Speculation from the organizers last night that the entries might be full by Sunday or Monday...at 72% right now (around 25 000).. Just a a heads-up for those who might still be considering entering.
  2. Signing off on the process rather than the team? I guess the question is when does input from the pres/VP stop becoming input and becoming interference? In this case the whole process appears flawed, from the election of the selection panel to the selection process itself. From a layman's point of view it appears as if the election of the selectors in question was a result of apathy from stakeholders in cycling when it came to the election process. Once the selectors were elected, surely they had a mandate? I think the pertinent comment that Erica Green made was that they had no set criteria when it came to selection. Now the question is, did they at any stage contact the pres or VP to clarify this matter? If yes, then Crux's comment regarding these gents are 100% correct.
  4. We get plenty of those, we even keep an empty margerine tub on top of the fridge to catch them with. Normally get taken outside and relocated to the wild (the other side of the road). Note: you don't want to squelch them on the wall/ceiling. They leave a nasty smear mark.
  5. This is a common phenomenon, in the Western Cape several road rides have disappeared due to the fact that decreasing numbers made these fundraising events non-viable. The decrease in road ride partcipation numbers (or the levelling off of numbers) is mirrored by a huge increase in numbers participating in MTB events (eg 1800 + entrants for the Stellenbosch MTB challenge a couple of weeks ago), as well as a proliferation of new MTB events. I think I am correct in saying there are now more MTB events on the annual PPA calender than road rides. I think the reason is simple; it's just too dangerous to ride on the road.
  6. Groete aan die olifante by Shingwidzi....geniet dit!! HomerSimpson2007-08-27 03:54:56
  7. From a purely scenic point of view, doing the last 30 k's (from Sun Valley onwards)...let see: past Noordhoek (did somebody say topless girls?), over Chappies (nice view over the Hout Bay n?), up Suikerbossie (all sing along now....) and then all along the sea (cool breezes for us late starters), level/downhill...great. Or: turn right up small Oukaaps....then Oukaaps...zero spectators, no sea view, over the other side, fast, dangerous descent, then...slog up the blue route (where's the sea??), little bastards of hills past UCT and Hospital bend....wow, now we get go past the CBD... Point is, I ride the Argus as a social event, I don't race. So there is no contest regarding which route is preferable. If you race...well then I suppose it dont really matter, as long as you get the time you want.
  8. I refuse to allow you to vote
  9. Tuesday evenings Bellville Club has a training session. Generally they don't mind if track cyclists join in who are not members of the club. Wednesday evenings and Sunday afternoons the track could be open for development sessions, you can train then. Regarding the availability of the track etc, maybe give Eugene De Necker at Bellville a call (he runs training sessions on Tuesdays). Don't have his number handy. Maybe Chrispy will know. 10. Chappies/Suikerbossie is way easier than the detour.
  11. I agree, they should have it open shortly...unless there is a group that objects to the relocation of a boulder on the basis that it will affect the skyline adversely, and that the money could be better spent upgrading the toilet facilities at the Salt River Station.... And with the detour, it's not Ou Bastard Weg that's the problem, it's the damn drag back up the blue route to UCT that's the killer.
  12. D'Oh....no, forgot about that..so less than what I said
  13. R4170 from CRC according to their website (that includes the VAT payable in SA), shipping is free.
  14. If it is a full groupset (Hollowtech cranks+ BB cup, F+R derailleurs, brakes STi's, chain, sprocket) and includes the cost of fitting then hell yeah it's a good price for South Africa. With the exchange rate at GBP= R14.06 it cost me just over R4K (vat inclusive) to get a full 105 groupset from CRC to my front door.

    Hobbies

To me cycling is a hobby...hobbies are things you do because you enjoy them without needing to be particularly good at it...so that makes: Road cycling MTB Track cycling Falling off bicycles (I'm quite good at that) Tennis Playing the guitar (I'm exceptionally bad a that) Drinking red wine (beer is way past being a hobby) Occasionally golf Flyfishing (used to be a passion, can't seem to find time these days)
  16. Looks great! Glad to see the frame is still going!
  17. It's not crazy, it's called MOTIVATION!
  18. I have the Scale 70, happy with it, but then I'm just a step above a pavement special..... How does the Scott Reflex 20 or 10 compare? The Reflex has a slightly more relaxed geometry and handles quite well, the components are very similar to the Scale I believe.
  19. Complaining or bragging?
  20. Ag moenie worry nie Nellie, Hendrik is net moerig omdat jy 'n blou-bul legende so beledig
