  1. Ketterer, Shawn Botha and Avenant are no longer u16 (Juniors at least). I would guess that in some cases school exams might take preference?
  2. Well, Barloworld is a SOUTH AFRICAN multi-national company, and over the past years we have seen riders like Cox, George, Kannemeyer and more recently Hunter WIN international tours (albeit Cat 2 level) for Barloworld. This sets the setup apart from the situation where a McLeod or a Hunter is a possible starter for a pro tour team. Presently there are only four Saffas in the roster of 16 (Hunter, Cox JL and Perry), but at least the team has raced in SA consistently over the past few years..so yeah, I feel there is strong SA connection here, and this will still serve to be a vehicle for talented SA riders to get into top-class racing. My 2 cents....
  3. The one reason that did pose the question was because I am aware of people like fatcyclist that started the commute and do race (and prpbably benefitted greatly from the daily commute)...I was wondering about the other 90%, the guys who, like me, will just do the odd afternoon a week if time permits, and then ride on Saturday/Sunday.
  4. This apropos an article that appeared in last night's Cape Argus discussing present and future traffic disruptions due to improvements on the N2 etc. It was mentioned that in the Bellville area they are planning to "re-do" the Symphony way corridor to include bicycle lanes, proper sidewalks etc, in order to "encourage non-motorised transport". As I did my short commute to work this morning I was wondering: If we were all able to commute SAFELY to work (and this in the case where the one-way commute is at least say 15 to 20 km), would this impact on the numbers of people doing funrides/races on weekends? So if you do 200 k's a week commuting, would you still ride as much over weekends? Just wondering....(Flip side would be, if you could commute, would you? Or just train and race?)
  5. Great to watch...very impressed with Schleck, who confounded those saying he would fade today...also with Di Luca, when he popped off, he just settled back into a rythm he could keep up, and then Cunego helped drag him up the last 3 k's. Very, very impressive, controlled, professional riding.
  6. Starts on RAI at 17:30 according to the website...if that's italian time....they are GMT +1 I think...so that means..hell I can't figure it out. It starts on RAI at 16:30, 17:30 or 18:30 (our time)
Daai Tokai modderbad was seker in ieder geval moeiliker as die lang ride by die Krakadouw....
  10. Ok, this was quite an amusing thread to read....we have "Revolution" joining the hub on May 19, first post innocently enquiring about "sweatsafe" bands....then as the posts go on said newby hubber goes from the enquiring to the salesman mode....(refer to the replies to Slowpoke's posts)...from this I can only conclude that he/she is a rep for SafeMed or whoever....brilliant piece of selling.
  14. It is aimed at everyone out there that would like to get the feel for track riding. If you have a chance to get to the Velodrome tonight, go! I did this for quite a while, and it's (a) great fun and (b) a good way to get a serious workout while it's pissing with rain outside.... Just a word of warning..it gets bloody cold at night during wintertime in the Velodrome, so legwarmers/armwarmers, jackets, gloves, beanies, coffee, hot chocolate etc etc are good accessories!
  15. Every week Chrispy? Will go as soon as I shake this flu...
  16. Braking hard will not stop the endo from happening
  17. Do not try to elbow pine trees out of the way.
  18. Umbrella tips: 1. Do not swing umbrella into front wheel while cycling. 2. Trying to cycle with an open umbrella into a headwind does not work. Not even when you are pissed. Also, do not attempt to hold umbrella behind you in said circumstance. This leads to a rapid and unscheduled dismount.HomerSimpson2007-05-09 02:55:11
  20. Speaking of the Olympics, haven't quite worked out what those stud thingies are for....are they for rucking fallen MTBers out of the way on single track?
  21. Sportsmans Warehouse used to stock some Olympics...was at the Somerset Mall branch, not sure if they still do. Otherwise the Specialized shoes seem good. My eldest son uses them. Retails for around R800 (and Flandria had some of them a couple of weeks back)HomerSimpson2007-04-26 04:28:44
  23. Ok....this is like talking to myself but...homer, what are the dates for the event? Normally falls in the school holidays during September if I'm not mistaken?
