  1. Buy a Scott. From recent experience, the Momsen "local brand with local support" is just talk to get the brand in the market. My Momsen SL929 frame cracked just below the seatpost clamp. The break spiraled down the inside of the seat tube. Sent it via the LBS to Momsen and the response from them was that I must have clamped the frame in my workstand without the post in the seat tube and thus not a valid warranty claim. I should take the frame to a carbon expert to fix it for me. When querying numerous time directly on what basis did they arrive at this conclusion I was just ignored. I am still waiting for a response from them. I took the frame to a carbon expert and the break is so bad that the only way of fixing it is to fuse a carbon post in there and make it "integrated". It should last a couple of months. So in my opinion, spend your money on something else.
  2. Look at Bike Shield products. They are very descent and I have been using it for years. http://www.cwcycles.co.za/product/bike-shield-full-pack Bike Shield : keeps your bike in mint condition by protecting it from scratches/grit and stones On the bike it is invisible Peel it off and the frame is like-new! Ultra-tough protection Self healing when cut Easy to apply or remove by hand Leaves no sticky residue
  3. Sorry for being vague. The frame cracked under the seat collar after 3 months. I was told that the only way the crack could occur is if I clamped the bike in a stand or tighten the seat collar without the seatpost in it. When my LBS and myself both explained that the bike was built up and the seatpost never removed it was simply stated that that is the only way a crack like that could occur and it's not a warranty. When inquiring on how they determined that I was just ignored. Maybe it's just me but clamping the frame in a work stand or tightening the seat collar without a seatpost until it cracks is just plain stupid. Can't for the life of me imagine doing that and I have been self servicing my bikes for a couple of years now. In any case that is done and dusted now. The fact remains that I will not support them and will not recommend the brand to anyone.
  4. I had a Momsen SL929 which with which I was really happy. Not the lightest frame, but descent. Their backup and support is pathetic. But I guess you get what you pay for. Had an issue with my frame and they refused to replace it under warranty. I inquired on how they came to their conclusion a couple of times, still waiting for a response. So personally I will never buy from them again. I am riding a Rocky Mountain Vertex 990RSL. Brilliant frame and thus far the support and backup from HullaBaloo is excellent. My 2c.
  5. Not sure what rudy lenses the guys are using but I have the ImpactX and they don't scratch that easily. Mine has taken some abuse with only a scratch here or there.
  6. I had of the first incarnations of the Evil Eye and the lenses scratches incredibly easy. Not sure about the newer version. Currently have Rydon's and Exowind's and they are really good. I have had the Exowinds for a over an year and the lenses are almost perfect. So I would go for Rudy's
  7. Can see Cadel Evans spent a brief time on a canyon . It does look like his preferred TT position
  8. Just a pity that in the whole 75km covered in the Baberton Marathon they couldn't find one piece of singletrack other than the 'voetpadjie' in the last kilometer. That would have made the torturous first 35km worth it.
  9. They look nice. Do you know the weight of the frame?
  10. How much for the frame?
  11. My wife is very small in stature and the shorter top tube of female specific bikes made a huge difference for her. Her first mtb was 'n mens geometry XS with a very short stem. She enjoys riding now a lot more as she feels the handling is a lot better.
  12. Not really the point though, whether it's R50 or R500 or R5000, service is service. Whether it's online trading of just someone wanting to post a photo on a site. Financial implication should not be part of the equation when providing a service.
  13. I would have been better if they weren't open. A bit pointless being open and not being able to do anything?
  14. Then you are really lucky. Plus I think that more LBS's carry shimano road wheel spokes than MTB spokes.
  15. Any case, I just thought is was terrible. Guess it's just me, then. Sorry Cool Heat!
  16. Sorry for the over reaction then. Next time when servers crash and people can't log in I will also use the excuse that it's that time of year and slack is acceptable.
  17. Apparently no shops keep Shimano specific spokes in stock. And nothing else fits on the Shimano rims. I just think it is terrible from Cool Heat to just shrug their shoulder and say, wait for next week when everyone is back at work again. Seems they are doing to well to be concerned.
  18. Broke a spoke on my 29er wheel last week. Shop has ordered on Tuesday and the message is that they don't have enough staff to deliver spokes to the shop. Only next week will there be staff to do this. That is just terrible. They could have sent the stuff via speed services. Can't wait to replace my wheels with something that shops carry as stock. Always an issue getting shimano specific spokes. Useless!!!!!
  19. I'm running Syncros FLavor's at the moment. Fast rolling and they corner extremely well.
  20. If it was me, I would just ask to change the fork on the 1200D. DT Swiss are maintenance intensive/expensive. Think the Fox would be a much better option or a RockShox SID.
  21. I am currently running Shimano XT MT75 29er Wheelset but I want to replace it with something lighter/better. I am leaning towards the Eastons but would appreciate some input.
  22. Epic Sports seems to have daily rides @ 5:30 from their shop. Not sure about the level and distance but worth giving them a call.
  23. Pick a gear at the start of the ride and single gear the whole ride with your wife. Find a gear so that you have a high cadence on the flats and challenging enough for the uphills. It balances out nicely and you will still get a workout.
