  1. ride along the coast road, breathe in the fresh air, negotiate the circles and then turn around at Dolphin Beach. if the wind is blowing you'll get blown back to Melkbos. if you'r thirsty, a left turn at Sir David Baird Drive in Blaauwberg will take you to the Blue Peter.
  2. just received a sms from David "on way to town.finished.back in CT". he asked me to speak with the Premier of WC as he had emailed her office with the details of his trip etc etc. i spoke with her spokesperson and she was not able to arrange any official welcoming party as his trip was "unofficial". but she did say that he must contact her and arrange to meet and discuss certain possibilites of help for his cause.
  3. its not about B'world , its about cyclists behaviour. its the impression they leave with motorists (who haven't a clue who they are). a misbehaving bunch of cyclists are just that , motorists don't care if they are a T d France bunch or a T d Argus bunch. We have to live here.
  4. Spoke with David , a few minutes ago. he is in Worcester and expects to be in CT by between 3 and 4. he will be finishing his ride at the cycling expo.
  5. two women got knocked down in CT by a taxi, other motorists took his keys and then he ran away. cyclists are alright, one can't ride Argus becos of a broken collar bone and the other needs to have her bike repaired.
  6. good and bad this past weekend. "The bad" - On saturday morning our "club ride" was involved in a incident with a motorist who cut across our training bunch when crossing the road. there were almost windless conditions so the speed was between 37 - 40 kph and the guys and gals were working thru and off (wide shoulder and safe road conditions). The motorist took a chance to cross, becos the car coming up towards him was going fast (his excuse) and he didn't realise how fast the cyclists were riding. anyway this action caused everone to break hard and we had one guy fall and break a thumb. "the good" , another motorist who realised that something was amiss, stopped and loaded our club member into his bakkie and drove him to the Mediclinic and stayed with him until he was sorted with medical care.

    Hello Popeye

On Sunday I was training on that road than goes infront of the Landbou School when two guys try to stop me, I heard the one said , "Give me your bicycle" but they misjudge the speed I came and I passed them, but as I went pass, I heard them shout "Next time we will just take it" I was lucky,I guess, but those two was just to farm guys, So the question is - How do they know about taking bicycles from people, they are not going to pitch for a race in a month or two, or is it only a way of transport? I can bet you, keep a eye on gumtree and one of these days you will see those 808's posted. Bring me back to another issue: As I turn right on at Klapmuts hoing towards the R304, (at about 11h30 - even the maroon sweeping vehicle wants to sweep me :-), I notice the empty Voom'as, Gu's, and wasps sachets. Guys I'm not lying, I count 53 empty sachets starting from that 4 way stap at Klapmuts till you get to the R304 junction. Most of it was just aff the tar , but a lot still in the road. It is shocking to think that us, can do this and than moan and groan if the authorities is getting hard ass towards cyclist and the sport Edited by popeye - Yesterday at 9:08am Nice to hear that you are still cycling. i was also confronted on that road by two "farm labourers" that stood in the middle of the road trying to block me. i just put my head down and charged them - thank goodness it was on one of the downhills. i wasn't sure if they were just joking becos they laughed when i blasted between the two of them. Re the litter - its disgusting, what is so difficult about putting the sachet in a pocket or under your cycling shorts legging and then throwing it away at the finish.
  8. this happened to me a few years back - was planning on riding to H Bay one Sudnay morning and rode thru Salt River (when it was still safe to do so) but was buffetted by the wind at every side street. when i got to Sea Point i decided to turn around and call it a day, also thought the harbour would be safer and the wind more consistent.....wrong.......consistently strong from the side, meaning that the bike was constantly at an angle of about 25%. did not think i would make it out of the harbour alive, so when the wind blows like it did yesterday i head inland and ride around the suburbs, practise 10- 20 sec sprints and just chill out in between the houses. i find that this is better than riding on the IDT.
  9. no amount of money , signs or driver education will prevent bad driving habits. from what i can gather the driver leaned over to do something causing the car to drift into the hard shoulder. this is something that we have no control over and something i am most afraid of ie a driver doing something that causes them "not to see you", like talking on the cell phone, changing cds' , etc etc Craig's death is so needless , may he RIP
  10. ja , and built like a roller coaster
  11. had to pump up a flat the other day and used a "used bomb" that was still connected to adaptor to see if there was anything left in it. did not inflate the tube too much but enough to cause the tube to explode once i used a new bomb. never imagined that a tyre tube could make such a noise, it blew the tyre off the rim.
  12. please, its one little corner in 109 kms. anyone who has ridden a bike enough should be able to negotiate this one with ease. imho, everyones afraid of the energy you need to climb the three big bumps on Boyes Drive instead of freewheeling in a bunch.
  13. does mtb'ing have races refs as in other forms of cycling? or do the offiials just wait to see who emerges at the finish first. ifso, how do they follow the race? if not, how can any rider protest at another riders riding conduct if there are no race refs?

    Carbon Frames

one little fall and you throw away the frame.
  15. apparently the road race will be on the Volmoed circuit - best to phone Ton's Bike Shop in Oudtshoorn or maybe Willie Marx Cycles in George for distances etc. the word is that it is a flat circuit but with one or two long drags
  16. our Saturday morning ride is a group ride, with the group riding together. if there is an event on the Sunday then the ride is really just a comfortable spin if not then those that want to ride a bit harder will split at a pre-determined spot after about an hour, the rest will then ride back to Edgemead as fast as the slowest rider. pm me your email address and i will include you on our mailing list.
  17. City meet at The Edgemead Sports Fields (in front of Library) at 6.45 to leave at 7. Tomorrow we are going for a leg loosener down to Koeberg and back ?70k's becos a lot of us are riding Td Winelands. pm me your email address and i;ll include you on our mailing list. ccc22008-12-05 03:25:48
  18. this event is to raise funds for the school but it seems as if they are pricing themselves out of the market. i did the 77k this year on a tandem with my son, they won't be seeing me next year.
  19. What are the 1st 15 k's like. Argus has Hospital Hill, Uct and then Edinburgh Drive , if you overcook the effort here you normally die on Chappies and Suikerbossie.
  20. butt slapping means that there is an obstacle coming up on the left so be prepared to swerve to avoid, Some riders just wave with their hand towards their back
  21. CSA is just an admin body. however the provinces elect the Pres. and his various commissions. but as long as the commissioners position is a voluntary one then we are not going to progress.
  22. no wonder i had to pay for a day license for the Knysna and 94.7 eventhough i am a fully licensed rider and then i couldn't find the WP on the drop down menu. when i queried it with the organisers they hupped bubbles. can someone explain the following : who in the PPA/CSA hierarchy decided that if you want to enter a classic and you are from the Western Province you have to select the PPA as your province.
  23. Mallo you have a valid argument but you are venting your spleen at the wrong people. the CSA is based in Cape Town and rarely attend races or weekend events other than National road / track Champs. 1st start with the organisers of the event and work down from there and then you might find the right people to complain about. my guess its your province's officials that officiated the event.
