  1. Go and check USN SA's Facebook page.
  2. Quite often when the pedal is stuck, brute force alone will not get it loose. Use a rubber/nylon mallet to knock on the spanner you're using, it is usually enough force to get the thing loose. For obvious reasons, when doing this ensure that you're hitting it in the right direction. Same thing applies to external BBs. Just in both the pedal and BB cases, ensure that the tool/spanner is on firmly so that it wont slip and strip anything.
  3. Yeah, I spotted that these were the 30k guys, not the 50k.
  4. Any chance I can get a full res of the second picture? I'm the 5th rider sticking out (I think.)
  5. Broederstroom. It is out at Hekpoort, it is a nice course.
  6. Here is a nice link for you to show people who conform to the old nutritional guidelines/beliefs. It states the myth, tells you otherwise and then gives links to multiple studies to support the statement. Short and sweet. http://authoritynutrition.com/how-to-win-an-argument-with-a-nutritionist/
  7. It looks the same as a CycleOps power meter hub FWB. That looks identical to the FWB that I had on the PM that I've been using recently.
  8. Try: -29.958333, 30.059542 (Lat./Long.) Google doesn't understand DMS coordinates.
  9. Watching The Walking Dead as I type, glad that it is finally on again. Anybody that has started watching Helix? There are 6 episodes out so far, I haven't quite made up my mind on it yet.
  10. OR In probably all cases of a chain breaking on its first ride/use, it is because a monkey incorrectly installs that master pin that comes with all new Shimano chains. Now most of us weigh more than a child, so the chain fails quickly as we place more strain on it in comparison. So with a lightweight kid, it takes more time for that same failure to occur. So back to the case of the chain breaking on its first ride, when the chain fails it is always because said master pin pulls out of one of the outer plates of the chain. In one scenario the user usually finds themselves in a OTB situation/sterilization procedure as the chain separates. In the other scenario, it causes the chain to change shape from "| |" to "\ |" (you see where this is going.) Then while pedalling, the plate that is sticking out catches the rear dérailleur as it passes and pulls the dérailleur backwards causing everything to wrap around the cassette. It happens often and it will continue to happen... It is unfortunate but these things happen and it has nothing to do with the quality of a chain. EDIT, I see that this was the OP's issue.

  12. The oom has power!! I'm surprised that the IDT is still functional.
  13. Even if one isn't in ketosis though?
  14. Anybody care to take a guess as to why I would have Ketones in my urine (measured + on Ketostix) if I have been eating >100g carbs a day. Considering that I had Futurelife w/ coconut oil, beetroot juice and milk before my ride and afterwards I had 500ml of Nesquick mixed with some beetroot juice, a nectarine and BP coffee but with only 1.5tsp CO (or rather Primal coffee as I added 2 egg yolks), I'm really puzzled! I did intervals this morning, not that it would make any difference, 8x2min @ 130%FTP and 3x1min @ 140%FTP.
  15. Question, is there a language where one says "percent" before the value, kind of like the tens and units that get swapped in Afrikaans? Well unless it is a currency directly proportional to every other currency?

  17. And also just a quick glance at the label, Carbs 0g but Fibre 7g. They also state how much Lactose is in a dairy free product, why?? It should state the amount of total sugars. So in which form are they using net carbs? Total carbs - fibre = total carbs or even worse, digestible carbs - fibre = total carbs. Judging from @agteros' post it is the latter.
  18. I'm not sure if Kevin will be riding this year as his main goal is Worlds in April if I am not mistaken. edit, maybe not April as I cannot find any info regarding XCM in ZA for 2014 unless it isn't worlds. But if you'd like to know, UCI XCM World Champs will be hosted in Austria.
  19. The guys at Santa Cruz did a test. The carbon frames were always stronger than the alu, the other difference was the way in which they broke...snap vs bend. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6APhKvaW6ig
  20. Thank you. Although I did keep it sedated on stage 1, it was stage 2 that caused all the damage. But I agree, I'll be better prepared next year. And congrats on your performance. Eish, Dana and I nearly hit the deck hard going down US pas on stage 2 after our bars touched coming out of one of the bends. It is a shame that he turned wrong though. As for that 15 hour goal, it was only slightly ambitious. However I did change my goals before the race, I told myself that I'd be happy with about 17 hours.
  21. Ahh, I didn't realise that Mailot Jaune was a guy on the hub. Thought it was you stating your name (as I didn't know the name of the guys I rode with.)
  22. Congrats meneer, you were an absolute machine out there! Maybe one day when I am big I'll be able to ride like you did. And thank you, I really appreciate it. And thanks for the tow on Stage 2 especially, there was a point where I was going to come past and help in front but as soon as I came out of your slip I was nearly blown backwards. Your win was well deserved.
  23. Damn you, hahaha. I was the laaitie that finished with you and came 6th overall. It was a really great race but a real breaker for me. I mean, you know how much riding I do..so for me to want to chuck my bike into the bushes and give up cycling completely, shows how low my morale was. But fear not, I was back to usual the next day. I definitely went out too hard for the first 2 hours, which I paid for dearly at the 240km mark until the end. Oh, let's not forget the first half that had a near constant headwind. I was crawling along alone in really thick mist from the start of the 5th stage (250km in) not being able to see, being alone and fighting an in-winnable battle with the corrugation and thick sand, it became a real mental game to keep the legs turning. Luckily @Mailot Jaune caught up to me and we rode the last 70-80km together which definitely helped. We finished in 17h20, which isn't bad but I want to come back and aim for a podium position and sub 17hr. So despite the ups and serious downs, I'll definitely go back for another one. Great organization, really friendly staff and lots of food for the solo riders who don't have their support vehicle until half way. Plus as a bonus, Squirt wont be lube sponsor next year. (I hate that stuff with a passion!) Advice, get a dual suss! Your saddle can only play ping pong with your tjom for so long before you start crying.
  24. How did everyone's race go?
