  1. See you guys there.
  2. I rode this morning with the front brake only and I obviously had to bed them in a bit before they started to bite. Now that they are working pull too hard and the front locks up with all my (limited) weight on the front. Very powerful and they have a nice linear feel to them unlike the on/off feel of the XTs. I'm just unsure if they are one or two finger brakes, most likely the latter due to the lever design. (I had to cable tie my shifter to the bar and run it 1X10 just so that I could test the brake out since I don't have the matchmakers yet.)
  3. One of the marshals last year crashed going down there on their motorbike. Worst part is that only so many people know that it is a rough section of road and that you should hold on. From all the accidents there over the years, why cant they post a warning sign before it for those that aren't aware of the road condition? It would go a long way. edit: sp
  4. I found this on brake fluid, so it answered my question. ie DOT 4+ will be just fine, it just has a higher dry/wet boiling point that DOT 4. http://www.opieoils.co.uk/pdfs/tech-articles/Brake-Fluid-Explained.pdf POLY GLYCOL BRAKE FLUIDS (DOT 3, 4 AND 5.1) Glycol based DOT 4 fluid is the current mainstream brake fluid, and you will see that the specification is considerably better than DOT 3 which it replaces. DOT 5.1 has higher specification still and is for fast road and occasional track day use. It has a similar spec to DOT4 for the boiling point (>260) but is a lot lower viscosity @ -40C typically 900 centistokes (compared to 1500 - 1800 centistokes for DOT 4 and super DOT 4). Listed in the table below, are the minimum dry/wet boiling point specifications for each DOT level. BOILING POINT: DOT 3 - 205°C (dry) / 140°C (wet) DOT 4 - 230°C (dry) / 155°C (wet) DOT 5 (silicone) - 260°C (dry) / 185°C (wet) DOT 5.1 (PAG) - 260°C (dry) / 185°C (wet) Super Dot4 * - 300°C (dry) / 195°C (wet) (racing brake fluid) * Super DOT4: The main difference between DOT 4 and Super DOT 4 is the dry boiling point. Normal Dot4 is >260C whilst Super DOT 4 is more like >310C
  5. Cut your nose off to spite your face.
  6. What is the best tool to use to cut the hose shorter? Will this suffice? http://home.comcast.net/~massbackwards/husky.jpg edit: and brake fluid, Dot 5.1 or 4? I've got a bottle in the garage that is "4 plus", will it do?
  7. I saw this last night, found it interesting. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aAMP1Wu_M2U
  8. This is what you lead me to, apparently it is a god, Priapus. http://31.media.tumblr.com/7e6715c4cee84f9617f4130621b5a4c2/tumblr_mwfnd4fgUc1qabe6do1_400.jpg
  9. Miscellaneous?
  10. I hope you realise that by saying "family of 4", I was referring to myself as one of the two kids and my parents? I'm still a student with no inclination of starting a family any time soon.
  11. Gels are ideal because fluids are more readily digested compared to solid foods and they deliver a concentrated dose of energy. So the science behind it is sound but the marketings claims are on another level.
  12. I think it comes down to the quality of the ingredients at the end of the day. All the cheap stuff would most likely get anyone feeling off. The condition of one's bowels after one too many Epic Pro's is a good example.
  13. It is actually an ideal pick me up after the race, caffeine, sugar... In terms of LCHF Coke may be the devil but while racing it works wonders as an emergency fuel and something to replenish the glycogen stores directly after the race (especially if that is your only option.) Carbs are important, especially after a race/hard ride. If you are worried about falling out of ketosis don't, because your body uses the carbs to replenish your stores and like DaveT posted on the whole glutame translocation (GLUT-4), your body does not experience the insulin spike thus your ketones aren't lowered that you will fall out of NK. It is very important not to deny your body of carbs when it needs it most.
  14. Sorry, I was just commenting on the weather part of your post. This wont help either, but here is a link to my 6h03 ride from last year. http://app.strava.com/activities/29499059
  15. As long as their is no rain with resulting brain freeze I'll be happy.
  16. I'll let you know soon enough as that is what they are replacing, I'm just waiting for the correct matchmakers to arrive.

  18. While exercising, sugar spikes are a myth.
  19. I've been proactive.
  20. We've just moved over from Discovery Essential Comprehensive to a plan at BankMed. This move was due to Discovery increasing our monthly payment by 2k when I turned 21 a few months back. We've never had issues at Discovery besides running into the self payment gap every year with our family of four. The SO's family is on Profmed hospital plan like Strech with no complaints.
  21. Thanks Dale. I knew what it represented, I just wasn't sure of what numbers were considered to be good (by our standards.)
  22. Then go with the lesser of the two evils. As far as grains go, rice comes out on top according to Mark Sisson. So if you feel you have to carbo load, rather do it with rice than pasta. I was trying to deter you from eating grains. As far as Peter Attia goes, I would say that it wasn't his weight specifically. More a case of Why did I get metabolic syndrome while eating the "ideal/perfect" diet that is recommended left, right and centre as a sure fire method to avoid becoming diabetic. I'd assume that him as a medical expert that exercised frequently would have avoided most if not all processed foods, not that I've ever come across what he ate pre-LCHF.
  23. I'd say weather conditions allowed for faster times.
  24. Correct, but Al doesn't turn orange/brown. It forms a white oxidation layer.
