  1. I've had a pair of Nalini bibs for the last year and a half, I think they are the Chicos. They just say "Base" on a lable on the side. I paid R850 for them and are the most comfortable bibs I own, although my 4 year old Vermarc bibs come pretty close. The most deceiving part about them is the chamois, it looks like a perforated piece of suede leather. None of that dual/multi density rubbish. It's really nice. BUT the mesh on the "strap" part WILL chaffe the hell out of your nipples if you don't have a under vest on and you are riding bumpy sections like freshly cut veld trails. (Not an issue on the road...) I bought a pair of First Ascent, only wore it once. Received 2 pairs of R400 Craft bibs from Solomons, don't even think about a ride longer than 2 hours.
  2. Wow, didn't realise it was that straight forward.
  3. You can't post something like that without following it by the relevant recipe.
  4. Ooh, then I don't mind the 5.3 reading. I just left it at "I could have a really long chat to you about this" and carried on about how awesome the liver pate turned out. Which brings me to this, why is it cheap to make but expensive to buy?
  5. Earlier today I went past my grandmother who has type 2 diabetes. Was telling her how I had made some amazing chicken liver on Saturday and how I ended up turning some of it into Pate on Sunday. Too which I got the reply: "I really love pate, but I'm not allowed to eat it because of the fat." This is info that she got from her dietician! I really wish that I could explain the "just" of things ito diabetes to her. But why would she ignore a "professionals" advice and listen to me..?
  6. Sure, on Saturday I rode the Cullinan Nissan Trailseeker. I only rode hard for about half the race and at the 60km mark (2h40) I had a 1h36 "break". A girl went over the bars behind me and broke her clavicle, so I phoned the paramedics and waited with her until they showed up. I then continued riding and did the last 15km in about 34min. On my 3h14 ride (4h51 total time) I ate some nuts (Almond/cashew/macadamia mix) and a Gu. An hour after finishing I tested my BG and it was 3.7mmol/L (I ate an egg, smoked chicken and homemade mayo when I got home - nothing that would spike BG). But, this morning I had my bulletproof coffee and an omelette with a bit too much Gouda which spiked my BG to 5.3mmol/L (reading in pic below.) EDIT: I also ate a strawberry at breakfast this morning, oops. For the life of me I don't know what I did with the box but I'm using a Bayer Contour TS blood glucose meter. As @htone mentioned above, you prick your finger and place a drop of blood on a test strip.
  7. Dude!! That's rough. Although we were both suffering on our Wednesday ride you seemed okay then.
  8. So I started at the back of A, was even the last person over the mat. Had a chilled ride until Vinnydabutcher caught me up riding out of B batch, landed up doing a bit of pacing for/with him up until the 60km mark. I was the guy sitting with the girl that fell at that loose right hand bend on the "technical" descent. We waited 1h30 for the paramedics! Anyway, my ride time was 3h15 but total time was 4h51.
  9. Cool, thanks. FBS is 3.8mmol/L, a little confused about that since it is higher than the last reading I took last night albeit only 0.3 higher.
  10. Just don't confuse the cholesterol in your blood and the cholesterol ingested (food) because those two are completely unrelated... It has been proven that the consumption of cholesterol has no influence on an individuals cholesterol levels.
  11. I decided to start testing my blood glucose levels around dinner today to start testing n=1. After 15g of carbs today it was 3.8mmol/L before dinner, 4.5mmol/L 30min after and 3.5mmol/L 2hours after. I had some veggie soup, butter, sardines and some grated parmesan for dinner. I'll take my FBS in the morning but I'm still not to sure what it all means. From what I have read, these values are good but would like to know how it compares to those of you who do check blood sugar. (I understand that the post meal reading is relative...) Cullinan Trailseeker is going to hurt tomorrow. I've got zero power in the legs so it's going to be a casual ride for a change.
  12. And eating food that is at least 8 days old (the 7th meal) isn't exactly appealing.
  13. WHAT IS DIET IN A BOX Diet in a box is a complete daily eating plan based on a low carb diet. It comes in a weekly box with 7 breakfasts, 7 lunches and 7 dinners. All meals are fully cooked and ready to heat and eat.
  14. You put your name on it, a little white sticker above the screen would do the job nicely.
  15. @Marge, Join the club, I'm just over a week in. I log all my food on MyFitnessPal, except dinner as it is hard to say exactly what quantities of the various veggies I eat are. @tombeej, The carbs I eat are either from nuts, salad or vegies and of those veggies, lots of broccoli, cauliflower, green string beans and onions. I've given all fruit a kip in the mean time. Salads for lunch and veggies for dinner, so all my carb sources are quality sources and thus obviously avoid anything dense. Oh and "not from meat" fat sources are coconut oil, olive oil, butter, cream, nuts and the occasional Flaxseed oil.
  16. I've averaged around 30g a day so far. It's been surprisingly easy to do so. I'm just curious about carb intake around exercise since you metabolise it differently... I take it that it still weighs the same on your daily intake as a normal carb that is not eaten around exercise. ie those 10g of carbs from Almonds eaten while riding would be the same as eating those 10g of carbs around breakfast. So I think my question is, does eating carbs inside and outside of exercising change the fact that you are still eating carbs?
  17. That is dirt cheap! Food Lovers is R140/kg.
  18. Quick question regarding carb intake. I'm sitting on 36g so far for the day where 10g from Almonds that I ate on this mornings 3h20 ride and 9g that I ate directly afterwards in the form of avo and Greek yoghurt. Should I ease off on carbs for the rest of the day? (I still need to read up on training and LCHF...)
  19. My last Macadamia purchase from them was rancid though.
  20. I had a dip this weekend, Saturday I went for our normal mtb group ride and at 30min I hit the infamous wall. Although I did recover fast after easing off, I definitely lacked my usually zing. I only had short bursts of power, nothing more. Then yesterday (Monday - day 8) I was drained despite 9 hours sleep. I could barely stand, then again it could have been a mental thing as I was clothes shopping with my girlfriend.
  21. I'm not sure what's happening but it's 9 days into LCHF and after having bulletproof coffee and a piece of smoked chicken with double thick cream for breakfast, I feel like I can walk on water. Feeling pretty damn awesome right now.
  22. I ate it because I didn't like the taste of fat, well that's changed now. Even though I'm still getting nauseous with all this fat. How long will this go on for?
  23. Nothing worse than sitting in "traffic" on the highway to figure out it is someone doing 80 in the fast lane that is holding everyone up. In my eyes the fast lane should only be used to pass slower cars, it makes sense to me.
  24. It aint saggin' so why are you complainin'?
