  1. But they do produce bikes that crack all across the board.
  2. In his bulking up phase: breakfast, "A large bowl of oatmeal with cinnamon, six scrambled eggs with ham and spinach, two slices of rye bread toasted with peanut butter." How does one have space for 6 eggs, never mind all the rest that goes with it.
  3. No brakes!
  4. For the exact same one, about R190. http://www.buycycle.co.za/index.php?dispatch=products.view&product_id=7258
  5. I'm more interested in making one myself out of wood with my dad. Gives us the opportunity to bond a little as both our hobbies keep us occupied on the weekends, me cycling and him flying.

  7. I was really glad to see that they met their 40 000 USD goal with time to spare. Can't wait for the end result.
  8. And beautiful.
  9. Oh okay, from looking at my photo I realised that it wasn't what I was thinking of. Can't remember exactly where the second pic was taken but it is somewhere between Wittedrift and Petrus se Brandt.http://farm3.staticflickr.com/2822/9436125645_dd44d4d925_c.jpg http://farm3.staticflickr.com/2828/9438921082_53fc49830b_c.jpg
  10. Francois, could you add this to the original post?
  11. So the top of Prince Alfred pass?
  12. Majority dirt road, along the canals and the railway in 2 places as well as the odd tar piece. But I'd say that 115-120km is on the dirt.
  13. Why not try DropBox or Google Drive? We could then fill it up with the most NB of the LCHF info for everyone to access...
  14. Emphasis on picking your line. I've been riding the Maxxis Crossmark tubeless ready tyre on the rear for 14 months (on my second one which is near the end of its life), not the UST version. Touch wood, I have never had a sidewall cut on them. Hell, I even rode with a Rocket Ron Evo on the front for about 6 months before I cut the tyre on glass, and those sidewalls are paper thin (I rode the Barberton Ultra with the Rocket Ron Evo's front and rear with no issues.) Question, do you ride a dual suss? Most guys that didn't learn to ride an HT or didn't ride an HT for years have the tendency to not bother with their lines at all because they are accustomed to the rear suspension absorbing the trail.
  15. Talking about race pace, that was our ride today! On a flat (450m ascent) mtb route we averaged 27.7km/h on our 133km 4h48 ride. EINA! 2 bottles water, 10g coconut oil, 15g almonds, 20g droewors and at the 75km mark; bacon and egg from Maxxis. So yesterday I spun for 4h45 and today I had a club "race" for 4h48. So an awesome 240km mtb weekend in 9h33. I'm retiring for 2 days though. http://app.strava.com/activities/72085696
  16. While looking for biltong recipes yesterday, I came across this on Popular Mechanics website - http://www.popularmechanics.co.za/home-how-to/diy-projects/make-your-own-biltong-dryer-in-an-afternoon/ http://www.popularmechanics.co.za/home-how-to/diy-projects/reader-projectcut-and-dried/ There is a recipe (just remove the sugar though) as well as a DIY biltong dryer (2nd link). On a youtube video, another guy made his biltong by first submerging it in brown vinegar, then spread it with a coriander and salt mix, left it in the fridge overnight before hanging it up the next day to dry. It said 3 days to dry. - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=p27tsFHxWto Back on the fruit topic, it has basically taken me 2.5 days after eating half a grapefruit to get back to where I was ie between ++ and +++ on the ketostix. I only ate about 10g of carbs yesterday to try and get back on track but this mornings reading was still only +, I have been there for the last 2 days. But after my easy 4h45 mtb ride this morning I was finally back to that level. I rode only on water.
  17. Is that the new Roubaix?
  18. Where do you get such fatty cuts of meat and what cut specifically? EDIT: I see most recipes recommend silverside, but that's a lean cut.
  19. Just bought 1.5kgs, should last me a month. Thanks for the info.
  20. Same, I rode a 2h27 at Trailseeker 1 but got a 100 seeding! But with 4h52 at Cullinan I got a 49 seeding. (I tended to a girl that fractured her collarbone.)
  21. Ahh, thanks for the info on CLA. My whole thought process of where the trans fat originated in dairy was completely wrong. Glad to know that it is good. I think I'd first have to taste lung or tripe before I'd buy or eat the stuff.
  22. Awesome!! The Celeste woman is ignoring the real world proof/positive outcomes of LCHF. Personally, there is no question about it, BUTTER is the way to go. The one product is made by nature while the other is made by chemists. On the trans fat topic, Noakes bashes margarine and so do I BUT as far as dairy goes, dairy is also "high" in trans fat which is a by-product of the whole UHT/Ultra pasturising processes. (Which is why raw milk is better.) So either way you slice it, either product still contains trans fat but with butter having a smaller amount thereof... What is your guys take on the trans fat matter?
  23. Marge, please read this. It is quite a nice read. http://www.lowcarblearning.com/2011/12/my-cholesterol-test-results-on-lchf-low-carb-high-fat-diet/ Note that the numbers you see are mg/dL, so divide them by 18 or multiply your values by 18 in order to compare apples with apples. Your values: HDL 28.8, LDL 90.
  24. I'm not all too clued up on the subject but the HDL looks good, it might be the LDL that "doesn't look good" to him (high according to current "ideal" values of having total cholesterol under 5.). But then there is also the whole LDL particle size twist to the story... Found this: - http://lowcarbhighfatusa.blogspot.com/p/questions.html HDL: The good cholesterol was significantly higher in the low carbohydrate groups, both after 6 months and 12 months. A high value lowers the statistical risk for heart disease. Total Cholesterol: Slightly higher after 6 months in the low carb groups, but no significant difference after 12 months LDL: Higher in the low carb groups at both measuring occasions. Note that with a higher HDL and lower Triglycerides, LDL-particles are transformed into larger and less dangerous LDL.
  25. As far as n=1 goes. I've found that if I eat about 5g of carbs at breakfast, I don't get that extreme nausea 3-4hrs after eating. (The amount of water I consumed had a negligible effect.)
