  1. I have had delaminations from: Crossmark Monorail Race king Intense systems 4 After my last delamination, I took a very close look at what happened. It was ALWAYS after I pumped the tire 3.5 bar for surfaced roads. The sealant? Joe's. What I suspect is that there may develop a very small tear in the inner rubber layer in time. I (over) inflate the tire. Hit a few bumps. Tear opens a bit. Air enters the "middle" layer. Air gets trapped due to sealant sealing the hole. Trapped air heats up and expands. Forcing the layers to part. From now on I will keep the pressures low (below 2.3 bar) on tubeless tires.
  2. Lots of tech bulldust floaying around. DW links, Horst links, Virtual pivots, single pivots, Maestro the more popular ones. This one being more sensitive to small bums and that one less/no bobbing. Ride a few bikes. Buy the one you like and want to (not can) afford. Most new XC full suspension bikes are probably within 5% of each other if you look at "performance". I like the Anthem Spaz makes good bikes Merida is good. I ride a Santa Cruz.
  3. If you bite the bullet now with some 2009 stock floating around (and a few lies about the real price to your beloved wife) I would go for the Silverback sierra. This is a bike you can ride for YEARS to come. Also look at Gt Zaskar expert. Don't waste good money on a cheap bike. I can guarantee you you will "upgrade' in six months time. Nothing wrong with the Nebraska either. Very likable specs.Goodbadugly2009-12-25 13:56:47
  4. Castrol SLX
  5. What about a XT hub, Mavic 317 or 717 rim with Revo or Competition spokes? These should be around the same weight. I did not like the free hub of the pair of Mavic wheels I had.
  6. A classic dead end. Nobody wins. The service provider feeling that the service is underrrated by the public and the public feeling that the service provider is overrating the service he provides. (Most less informed actually think that the doctor should provide a free service. Like some or other bullsh*t television story.)
  7. 60 Psi? Gimme a drink! Anything! You are joking, right? I pump a 2.25 (tubeless) tire 2 Bar at the back and the front one 1.7. That is less than half your pressures. Admitted, this is for XC. I seem to see less "wet spots" from sealant on the tires, thus less puncture prone than with high pressures. I think the casing of the tire gives way rather than resist and get damaged.
  8. "I often see this argument wrt wheel weight. Rotating weight bla bla bla. Now suddenly it is just the reverse, and inertia is good." Johan Bornman A friend of mine asked me about a Superfly 29. My answer? YOU. You even ride the Epic with normal folding tires because UST's weigh more. And you would probably sell a kidney for a wheelset with Tune hubs, 1.8/1.5 Revo's and 7000 rims! Makes me think of the story of the three couples queuing to enter the Pearly gates after being involved in a bad motor vehicle accident. St Paul looks down at his clipboard when the first couple reaches him. He says: "You sir! You loved your drink so much, you even married a girl named Sherry. Please go next door." The second couple. St Paul looks up and says:"You sir! You loved money so much you even married a girl named Penny. Please go next door." The third guy looks up at his wife and says:" Listen Fanny, maybe we should queue next door and save time." Goodbadugly2009-12-04 12:58:29
  9. Two rides? Get a warantee replacement. Unless you damaged/cut the sidewall "downhilling", king...
  10. It seems as if you have three options: 1. Get a better medical aid. 2. Shop around for a rookie doctor or go to a government hospital. 3. Keep your el cheapo medical aid and cough up when necessary. The above mentioned fee sounds totally in line to me.
  11. One way to force Dr Evil to work for government rates is to not support him/her. Anybody can visit any of the state hospitals. If you do not support private doctors or try to enforce certain fee structures on them, they might leave SA to wherever they go. Maybe that is the whole idea of the NHI. To get rid of private medicine in SA. Then we will all be equal. Just an interesting question to the OP. What did the doctor charge you for the operation? (in Rand)
  12. Most makers of tires have to create a "niche" for themselves. Why you should buy their tire and not the tire from the competition. They invent names for their "patented" rubber compounds. Like "Stick-E" or "Black Chilli" or "C3 compound". Words like these look fancy on the walls of tires. Also consider other magic words like "For racing only" and "Extreme conditions". What you should read is the hardness of the compound. A harder 70a compound will last longer with less traction and the softer 60a or less for more traction but at a possible reduction in tread life.
  13. Get another scale or set it at -1kg before weighing the bike. That way it will weigh 8kg. Or even better. Set it at -2kg.
  14. Look in the for sale section. Somebody is selling a wheelset with Dt 190s hubs for R7000...
  15. Have a look at the Silverback range. Also good value for money.
  16. You will have to go a looooooong way to find a better value for money/do it all/little hassles/just ride it and forget fork than a Reba. I have a Reba Race, new Sid team and a Fox RL100. The Reba might be 120 gram heavier, but this is the Cape to Cairo fork. The Fox is weeping oil at the lock out.
  17. If you do not do mud, pick any of the following: Crossmark as a back tire Monorail as a front or back Conti Race King as a back tire (expensive) Specialized Fact track LK control at the back with Captain at the front. Specialized Sauserwind Intense System 2. A very underrated tire. Not as bling as Race king. Schwalbe Ralph(expensive) Kenda smallblock 8
  18. Not for us 'mortals'. Did you see the price for a XX10 speed cassette? R2200 at CRC. So also not for anybody dealing with an economical recession. Goodbadugly2009-11-21 06:49:11
  19. A matter of want and need. Why would you buy a titanium watch? Because you want one and can afford it. Why do women prefer big diamonds? Because they want it. Why golden jewelery? Because it looks nicer than stainless steel. And is more expensive. A few possible answers for titanium: -For the IMAGE. -The idea of longevity. -"You have arrived" -Spoiling yourself. -In search of the Holy grail or the Kruger millions. -Don't want to be "common" -A small uhmm... whatever. (Note that the word better did not feature.) Tire pressure, frame design and set up plays the biggest role. I drive a Toyota. So does my wife. We ride aluminum.
  20. Lock it away in a safe after you have wrapped it in a blanket. And go out and ride your aluminum bike.
  21. Bend it back. Order a new one as a spare. If the "fix" did not work, replace it with a new one. Nothing to be lost in trying to fix the bent one.
  22. I know a few guys who have to service their AM classics very often. A am not convinced that the AMC's are the best option for the heavier rider that rides often. You know the old saying of light, cheap, strong. Choose any two. Have you considered XT wheels? Icycling has advertized them somewhere on the hub for R 3500 I think.
  23. Do it yourself. It will give you a good basic knowledge of the hows and the whys. A sense of achievement.
  24. Don't forget natural anti oxidants.
  25. The mind is a strong thing. The more you pay for meds, the more you believe them to work. The more you believe them to work, the more effect you have from them. This is called the placebo effect. I'm old school. Berocca calcium once daily.
