  1. I have 2 SID forks. One is a 2009 TEAM and the other a recent RLT. The RLT utilizes the QR15 system, the other a normal qr (9mm). Their caracteristics differ. The QR15 is a more stable fork. Feels more like a REBA. The 'normal' qr feels more wobbly in singletrack. The QR15 feels more accurate. I think RS did the qr15 thing to the later RLT to stiffen it up a bit. (Or it can be marketing). Just something to think about. Ps. I am fully aware that some other guys on the hub will not agree with me.
  2. Like I said: Not everybody's cup of tea. BUT the hole to add sealant is bigger. And this one has been in use for 4 years. With no issues. It does not break, it is made of aluminum and can pump your tire at the garage. I have used it with Stans Crest, Mavic 317, DT 4.2d rims.
  3. Not for sensitive viewers
  4. One of my kids did her first 5km fun ride last weekend. And she received a medal at the end. That medal hung around her neck for the whole day. And accompanied her to school the next. That medal will encourage her to go back for another and another. I would love to join in on the ubercool crowd and state that I only keep Epic podium medals and such, but only a very few of the hubbers make regular podium visits. The rest of us get a podium from time to time in the smaller races. I still take the medal, even if it lands up in a box somewhere. I even had to take the one for the 5km ride with my daughter(she insisted) If a medal encourages people to get off their backsides and ride/run/walk, it has to be a good thing.
  5. I have not tried Schwalbe ust tires. But this I can tell you. Seating the Crossmark ust on a Stans Crest rim can be challenging. The bead socket tech of the Crest rims provides quite a shallow ridge. Getting the ust tire to seat INTO the groove takes careful inflation. I have read somewhere that Mr Stan does not recommend UST's for these rims?
  6. Get Crossmarks. It will be difficult to find better value for money. They will outlast three sets of Ralphs. Support CWC. Try to get the combo where they include Stans in the place of the energy drink.
  7. Until the government can find a way to tax us on that.
  8. 92 kg's? I would go for the Comps. I know there are many knowledgeable guys who say that the Revos are the only way. Me? Well, think of it this way. You might save 2 grams/spoke. So 130 grams for both wheel. For this you are going to pay an extra R600(last time i looked). The last wheelset I built was Comps with Crest rims and Dirty flea hubs (and brass nipples). If I had to do it again, I would do the same.
  9. No. For every guy that tells you the SID is better, there will be a guy telling you the Reba is more versatile. They are VERY much alike. The SID might be 100 grams lighter.
  10. The only acid they neutralize is that in your stomach. Gives a nice burp.
  11. The last time I kissed mother earth on my mtb the helmet save the side of my face and ear from a nasty roastie. It not only helps to absorb the impact on your brain, it might save your face.
  12. Ja I know about all the new TNT's and Hutches etc. Even Conti's in tubeless ready configurations. It is just that I have had my fill with Joe's on my hands, face, legs while the pack rides away(And me with my over 40 +1.5 eyes trying to get a tube into the mess). That extra 100 gram on the tire won't slow me down. The extra butter covering my six pack will.
  13. You have been challenged by Baby in this case. You took up the challenge. It is the rest of the little guys making up the pack, while too scared to do it themselves, who keep on stirring. While the fight is on, they usually make sure they get a sideways shot in.
  14. And I am not referring to heavy wire bead tires.
  15. I hate punctures. In both the Sabie Ex 2010 and the Epic 2010 we were held up by punctures due to crappy tube tires converted to tubeless. More weight=more rubber=less punctures.
  16. You make me think of my school days. One guy shouts "Scrap! Scrap!" And all the little guys run down to the fietsloots to see the school hero beat up the new guy from Laerskool Ermelo. Grow up.
  17. I'm in. We did it last year. If you like mtb, you will LOVE this.
  18. Dit laat my dink aan Gatiep en Meraai. Meraai: En wie dink djy gaan djy met daarie klein dingetjie bevredig??????? Gatiep: Myself natuurlik!!!!!!!!!!
  19. Silly me. Logging onto this subject thinking it had something to do with QR15.
  20. Any good UST tire. Think twice if the tire weighs less than 650 grams (26"). Race king 2.2, Monotail LUST 2.1, Crossmark LUST 2.1. I prefer the Maxxis tires, although heavier.
  21. Weight weenie tires are a no no.(For me that is) I decided againt my better judgement to attempt the 2010 Epic on tube tires converted to tubeless (Intense systems 2) About 80 km's into day 1 I had to fix the tire with a R20 note and a tube. Luckily I brought my training wheels with Monorails and Xmarks, so that evening I was back on full ust tires. I completed the race on these without issues. I did the 2009 Epic with Underachiever on Monorail ust's. No punctures. 2010 Mankele 3 Towers with Xmarks and Monorails. No issues. 2010 Sabie Experience with the mentioned combo. No issues. BUT my partner had a Maxxis advantage folding non ust. And got a side wall cut, to finish that day with a tube. I do not imply that you will never have a puncture with these, the chances are just less. I paid my school fees last year. I will think twice before doing stage races with ww tires. I am sure there are guys who did millions of miles with converted tube tires. Good for them. As you have gathered I HATE punctures. Stans/Joe's on your hands. On your legs. On your clothes.
  22. Crown cycles as well as Chris Willemse have good deals on Maxxis tires. No extra VAT, no hidden costs, no delays at customs.
  23. The best qr skewers I have used so far are the XT's. DT swiss similar to the "exposed" ones posted by Drongo are rubbish. A2Z ones (titanium nogal) are less than good. Read crap. Do not try to save weight on skewers for MTB. You might end up with titanium fixtures in your facial bones. Also look at the contact area where the skewer grips onto the frame. (Lets call it the teeth of the skewer) If it is made of a soft aluminum type material, how do you expect it to grip/ bite the frame?
