  1. Maybe you should be more careful with the Karcher...
  2. Irritating this out of stock business. I support CWC. Support local enterprise. 9 speed HG53 and HG73 chains are OUT OF STOCK for at least 2 weeks from cwc. I had to buy from the LBS. The LBS price was not that bad though. Only R30 more/HG53. Check prices as stated by ELDRON. I was also looking for a Gobi saddle. R1000 from cwc for K!!:><iu?m@# rails and got it from the LBS for R800... and no postage. So you can say I got the chain for free and R70 change. Shop around.
  3. Did you take a peep in the classifieds?
  4. The bell shaped distribution curve. Good explaining, Edman. See this on wikipedia http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gaussian_function
  5. So the question is why do we measure it? Because it is cheap and easy. Cheaper and easier than power meters. Not because it is the most accurate. My maximum measured is 186. And I am 45. So the little calculation of 220-age is off. What have I personally gained from it?- During warm up. Nothing really. - I once went out cycling and was sitting with a hr of over 90% for teensy weansy uphills. I stopped. It did not come down after 5 minutes. I limped back home. The next day I started with a nice flu. So the hrm 'saved' me from a possible myocarditis. - I know from experience that I can go a very very long time at 133. LSD. - I know that I can do 40km mtb races with a constant hr of 166 without cramping. - I know that if I push it over 170 for more than 15 minutes continuously I WILL cramp. - I know that I will hit the wall if I had not eaten when my hrm shows I have 'used' 1000kcal. - I know tat if it is a stage race and I have not eaten at 600kcal on the second day of a stage race, I will hit the wall. But that is just for me. That is how I use mine. Learn to use yours. EVERYBODY is different. A very high hr is neither good, nor bad. Easy example: An average male weighs (or should weigh) 70 kg's. Many calculations are derived values for Mr Average. So many ml's of fluid/kg/h, X amount of Kcal/kg/h. If you do a study and take the blood glucose of lets say 1000 healthy individuals and plot them an a line, you will get a bell shaped distribution. 5% will fall outside the distribution curve to the left side and 5% will out on the right side. These values are usually discarded. So relax. You are alive. MANY factors influence your resting and max heart rate. A diesel engine should not be revved. A smaller 16V petrol engine gets its power from revving. But both engines will take you there.
  6. Better start training for maximum fun.
  7. We will be doing our second 3 Towers. A must do for any true mountain biker.
  8. Or a bike snob wannabe.
  9. Genade! So the answer is for as long as you are prepared to ride it.
  10. Waar's oom groot H?
  11. Winter tires
  12. Very little tires like mud. Try a 2.2 Conti Race if you like the Contis
  13. A dry weld. It is dry, but you can drink it. I would first look at ALL the other options before buying that Savannah
  14. You made a spelling mistake. It should read 26er...
  15. "Climbing like a billy goat..." SO many things. But the biggest of them all is stated by TNT1
  16. One thing I can tell you. I have done a few of these unsupported journeys. With a backpack. Keep it LIGHT. Your legs won't kill you. But your backside will. Say for instance your backpack weighs 10kg. That whole 10kg will sits on your backside. The last time I did it (PE to Stilbaai Des 2010) I packed to heavy. At some stage I couldn't decide whether to sit or stand to pedal. The 3 full days of raining did not help either. I am starting to see the point of those ugly panniers.
  17. I have 2 SID forks. One is a 2009 TEAM and the other a recent RLT. The RLT utilizes the QR15 system, the other a normal qr (9mm). Their caracteristics differ. The QR15 is a more stable fork. Feels more like a REBA. The 'normal' qr feels more wobbly in singletrack. The QR15 feels more accurate. I think RS did the qr15 thing to the later RLT to stiffen it up a bit. (Or it can be marketing). Just something to think about. Ps. I am fully aware that some other guys on the hub will not agree with me.
  18. Like I said: Not everybody's cup of tea. BUT the hole to add sealant is bigger. And this one has been in use for 4 years. With no issues. It does not break, it is made of aluminum and can pump your tire at the garage. I have used it with Stans Crest, Mavic 317, DT 4.2d rims.
  19. Not for sensitive viewers
  20. One of my kids did her first 5km fun ride last weekend. And she received a medal at the end. That medal hung around her neck for the whole day. And accompanied her to school the next. That medal will encourage her to go back for another and another. I would love to join in on the ubercool crowd and state that I only keep Epic podium medals and such, but only a very few of the hubbers make regular podium visits. The rest of us get a podium from time to time in the smaller races. I still take the medal, even if it lands up in a box somewhere. I even had to take the one for the 5km ride with my daughter(she insisted) If a medal encourages people to get off their backsides and ride/run/walk, it has to be a good thing.
