  1. I'm sceptical about gels...it is a very clever and aggressive publicity machine that makes us believe that we need these as energy stores during races and hard training sessions, IMO. I'm a fan of a healthy diet, one based on the replenishment of energy stores at all times. Then on race day / hard training sessions, a good old banana, water and some electrolytes work wonders.
  2. Point in case...if one considers that just under 1.4 million individuals viewed this website in 2013 (that's an average of around 3700 hits per day), the said Trailman thread, as an example, would have caught the eye of some web user with no prior knowledge of this forum or its users. Now say this person did not go through the effort of reading through the entire thread, only remembers the heading, and at some point deals with Trialman...they will be suspicious, and Trial is likely to lose their business in the end. Long story short...posts like these do cause damage, however small, and even in a close knit community like The Hub. I hope therefore, that your capital lettered words do not fall on deaf ears, Dips!
  3. Absolutely.
  4. Hehe, I hear you! But not at the expense of fellow and respected Hubbers hey!
  5. That post should have been moderated the moment it was posted. Surely we can devise a way to more closely control and monitor 1. who signs-up to The Hub, and 2. what they say in their first few posts? Just my 2c. (Edit - spelling)
  6. ...and of course the best part of riding in the Karoo: the wide open spaces.
  7. Ok not today, but last week. Some good fresh-air distance training, Fraserburg to Sutherland via the old "posroete", Groot Karoo. (Excuse the pose hehe )
  8. Wak wak wak! Dude that's so true...I really wonder how that works though..?
  9. @ OP, I don't want to start a thing here but I think the title of this thread is misleading and a bit unfair. What you are describing is a website-related annoyance and certainly not "online chaos". Anyhow, hope you get the entries sorted mate!
  10. Welcome to The Hub and Enjoy! (...and I see in less than 24hours you have already experienced much of the subtle nuances underpinning the evolution of a typical Hub thread... )
  11. We live in an anger-consumed country. Driver - cyclist hostility (and vice versa) is only a symptom of a society that has become perpetually angry. It's like Spinnekop said.
  12. Not really a Spez fan but right there I'm sold. Goosebumps.
  13. Just got back from the Karoo farm and again the landscape provided amazing scapes. Some quick edits batch 2: And of course the required amount of dust burning!
  14. Just got back from the Karoo farm and again the landscape provided amazing scapes. Some quick edits batch 1:
  15. A prosperous new year to all! I would have really liked to be part of this ride but I was away for the Christmas break and missed the event by a day. Would it be possible / viable to consider a second memorial ride for later in January when other vacationing hubbers and Burry fans have returned - perhaps for an early Sunday morning when most of us will be on the bikes in anyway? Have a great year and ride fun!
  16. Same helmet, no issues - only frustration I have with it is that I really want to upgrade soon but there is no end to the Rudy...
  17. My 2 main goals are a bit contradicting... 1 - break the ARGUS sub 3... 2 - get over the sub 3 preoccupation and learn to enjoy cycling again...
  18. Chill out mates..and Mr H*, switching is not nice man, in future rather try this approach:
  19. Yes, the countless assumptions and generalisations in that post are indeed worth a hyperlink...
  20. Yap. My last 2 dealings with ASG recently ended extremely negative with a bunch of snotty and sarcastic emails from them. My money to be spent elsewhere.
  21. Dude seriously, let it go.
  22. Rant away boys, rant way...just remember whose wheels we so love to suck on those faaaaaaast downhills!
  23. Seems like much the results have not been uploaded yet.
  24. +1. It's the small things (that take up a lot of logistics) that really make this an amazing event: - Marking every single pothole and manhole on the route with bright spray-paint. - Covering gaps, cracks and humps in the road surface with those rubber liners across the entire route. - LOTS OF TOILETS INSIDE THE STARTING PENS! - Very frequent traffic updates on the radio (obviously on 94.7 Highveld) on road closures and reopening, race progress etc. - Support. Everywhere. From mechanical to medical. ...and I can go on. The event is now really giving the ARGUS a run for it's money, IMO.
