  1. Running WTB Exiwolves '29 non UST as Ghetto tubeless with no issues whatsoever. Go through the effort of getting them seated the first time at the garage and you won't look back. I've ridden through patches of duwweltjies that have had my heart sink and lost basically no pressure, sealed perfectlu every time. Well worth it, over and over again. No question about it, I will never use tubes if I can avoid them again. Small Block 8's work well too.
  2. I remember doing this in I think 2001. Southeaster headwind the first day plus the organizers had cocked up the tide tables so we had to take a detour to avoid the high tide on the beach road on day 1 which ended up being about 112 kays. Day two the wind had turned very Westerly....another headwind. Mr. 20Niner in the photos above was doing it in his beach buggy laughing at us struggling with our tubed wheels in the loose sand. Good times. Did anybody do this Singlespeed?
  3. Nice one Narra, came out a beaty. How about some more detail on how she rides? Still got the carbon "29 fork for you if you are keen to shave some weight.
  4. I would love one of these for my sprog when he's old enough to handle it but at $2500.00 might be a bit steep. Anyone know an engineering works / framebuilder that could attempt making something similar? Check out the site, the guy rides proper singletrack etc. http://forums.mtbr.com/showthread.php?p=3942620#poststop <?: prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" />I've only been a parent for 8 weeks, at this stage it still sucks as there's very little feedback or reaction from the miniMe but I'm looking forward to MTBing, surfing, paddling, camping and generally driving the wife up the wall with my little dude. (Not to mention sucking a few beers!!!) Oh ya and mostly PIMPING HIS RIDE! As for riding...still doing tons of it...you just prioritise and waste less time farting around. Ratty do you use your trailer offroad? Any advice on what to buy and look out for in a trailer? I want one that can at least handle the fire roads in Jonkers etc. XTC12010-02-05 07:41:29
  5. "Williams you have to wait forever to get help" Awesome guy, awesome shop, great place if you want to perve and talk bikes but certainly not when you're in a hurry to get something done! In Stellenbosh, Mason's Bike Inn gets my vote. I've never been to another shop where guys bend over backwards to help you out like he does and where they are willing to make your emergency THEIR emergency. If it's good enough for the Caveman and Dan Hugo it's good enough for me! XTC12010-02-05 04:08:32

    GT Peace 9'r

Peace 29 is a great bike. If you scrounge around and get lucky or buy 2nd hand parts you could probably build an On One Inbred for well under R7K. If any of you decide steel aint real or steel's getting a bit heavy I have an On One Inbred Carbon "29 fork in super mint condition I am considering selling. Only about 900 grams and has nice to and fro flex which is great for corrugations though unforgiving if you decide to try and jump....Planet X advertises them for about R2100 excluding postage, I will pass this one on for R1200 ex P&P. 7. With regard to stanchion wear and servicing, does the same sort of issues and service intervals count for the shock on a dually as well? Johann I would be interested in that fork workshop. Sick leave a-plenty!
  8. Nice setup. How did you attach the racks to the inside of the "bak"?
  9. if you can afford it use a bank-note. strong as anything.
  10. Don't know what size you require but there's a nice Giant Trance X2 in the for sale section for 16K.
  11. Get yourself half a kilo of cow. Once broken in you'll never look back. Brooks B-17. Pure soul.
  12. nocalves that bike looks awesome. What grips are those and where do they come from?
  13. I hate to tell you this but I have a crush on your bike!!! Are you running those non UST Bonty's tubeless? XTC12010-01-07 08:02:22
  14. Nice one Rock, you going single or geared? NB!!! Watch out for the lockout control on the top of the right hand side fork stantion, I put one of Kiwi's 29er forks on my Inbred last week and the little lockout control is too high and dinged the downtube of my frame. I've taken the remote lever off now to give it clearance. Had a carbon fork before, the M29 is over a kilo heavier but has transformed the bike....MUCH more user friendly now! XTC12010-01-01 13:01:57
  15. You're going to have way more fun on the Anthem.
  16. The bars are standard, I don't know the exact measurement but give or take a few millimeters they are MOER wide. Incredibly comfy...would like to try some Mary bars at some stage but these will do for now. XTC12009-12-09 04:33:13
  17. Thanks guys, I am really enjoying this bike! Being rigid it climbs a lot better or you make it up much steeper hills than you would expect given the gearing. Am considering getting another rear wheel built with Alfine Internal Gear Hub to make the bike a bit more consumer friendly...maybe for Hell and Back and that kind of thing but that's going to have to wait a while.
  18. Would love some but you have no idea how expensive those things are!
  19. On One Inbred 29 SS before. Padded saddle, Fleegle bars, Oury grips. Super comfy. Inbred with new hat on - Brooks B17. These saddles may not be the most practical but man oh man the craftsmanship is something to behold. Still in the process of breaking it in...slowly getting there. XTC12009-12-08 09:14:17
  20. Seems like a bit of a trend towards 1 x 9 happening. Depends on where you ride you may not need a granny and big ring. Maybe go for a 11 x 34 tooth cassette rather?
  21. Having a dingdong day used to be a good thing....
  22. Half the people out there would not even know the difference if you swapped their front and rear brakes around or let the air out of one of their tires, how are they going to notice a slight wheel size change. I mean if the argument is that you can run the 650 wheel on traditional frame design and geometry surely the difference is so inconsequential you're wasting your time making the change. An hour from now I'll be riding in Eden...whooohooo!!!!
  23. Slowbee it makes no sense that your height / size will reduce the amount of effect that you will experience from a different wheel size.....that oke's smoking Joe's again. You can take my bike for a spin if you want to try it for yourself. Just be warned...no shocks no gears....
  24. Kranswurm just do it, I have an On One 29"SS and love it! You won't regret it, not at On One prices anyway. For rigid and hardtail I reckon 29" is the way to go, for trail bikes the 650B does make sense. Just a pity you lose economies of scale and prices go up when new standards emerge.... The only thing that will make me want to get rid of my 9er is the fact that dingdong rides one....
