  1. Tell you what Johan, if you take MY Fox rather than one of the two above, I'll let you service my RST Air M-29 as well. No charge. I'll even throw in a RP2 shock if you want.
  2. Excellent honest and quick service always. Nothing dodgy about Wayne except that he is a Kiwi but he's not a bad one as they go.
  3. If you are running ghetto the sealant should not really be touching the rim at all but be between the tire and ghetto strip. Anyway odds are I'll destroy a rim in a hundred other ways long before sealant causes it to split. No Tubes website doesn't advise against using them either?
  4. Noli don't worry about the Nevegals, I've used a variety of non UST tires tubeless and have yet to get a sidewall cut and I ride over rather than around things. On a WTB Wolverine with very thin sidewalls I did however get sidewall "chafe" at the bead from running at too low pressure but there were drops onto a flat landing involved. Forget about silicone and all the rest, if you have enough slime in you'll get them sealed sooner or later, just persevere.
  5. Ghostface you'll have to wait no longer, my buddy uses a ghetto conversion on his 317's and his works fine!!! I'm sad to head that you shouldn't convert "sleeved" rims as I have a pair of 29er Sun Ringle EQ27 Sleeved rims on the way....gonna give it a go nonetheless. Are sleeved / pinned rims not strong enough or what would the reason be that it should not be used?
  6. Peace 29 is SS specific. I've looked at putting an Alfine on my Inbred and it'll cost you a minimum of about R2500 to have a wheel built up around it if you buy everything you need from CRC
  7. Nevegals are good. If weight / cost is an issue you should not have any problem running non-UST Nevegals as tubeless.
  8. Chris why don't you get yourself an older rigid MTB with slicks for commuting and then get the MTB ship-shape for mornings in Eden / Helderberg / Jonkies? The best of both worlds will always leave you lacking on one side or the other. (PS I have an old rigid Giant ATX gathering dust on the indoor trainer which I'm not sure what I'm going to do with if you are interested? Welcome to come check it out...you know where I live!)
  9. Throwing your GU packet over your shoulder like Mr. yellow number U12104 with the blue Cannondale CAAD4 in our bunch decided to do on the Blue Route and when asked whether he threw his trash on the ground at home as well telling me "it doesn't matter they pick it up afterwards anyway" Spoilt my mood and cemented the fact that I should rather just stay the hell off the tar. If anyone knows him please say Hi and while you're at it to take his litter and shove it!!! There, this has been bothering me since Sunday morning but I feel much better now. XTC12010-03-16 13:31:21
  10. Brooks B-17. Half a kilo of cow certainly wouldn't make a weigh weenie blush with envy. These saddles are renowned for having to be broken in....this one wasn't bad off the bat but took a few rides to break in, has to be covered when riding in the rain...needs special hide feed every few months....a lot of admin but man it's comfy. I'm even thinking of putting it on my other bike for Argus on Sunday.
  11. I have also measured below 70mm with all my weight on the bars. I mailed Kiwi and quote his answer below: "The M29 forks can be increased to 100mm travel, there is a separate part available but our shock technician has found that you don?t need the part as existing damper tube has two positions for the travel stopper on it and it can be moved between the 80 and 100mm travel positions." - Kiwi
  12. Hi, Can anyone here 1. confirm whether the travel on a 80mm RST M-29 Air Fork can be increased to 100mm by swapping / changing internals 2. if so what the job would entail and 3. whether it's a job best left to the pro's? Cheers and thanks in advance, XTC12010-02-26 02:01:47
  13. Running WTB Exiwolves '29 non UST as Ghetto tubeless with no issues whatsoever. Go through the effort of getting them seated the first time at the garage and you won't look back. I've ridden through patches of duwweltjies that have had my heart sink and lost basically no pressure, sealed perfectlu every time. Well worth it, over and over again. No question about it, I will never use tubes if I can avoid them again. Small Block 8's work well too.
  14. I remember doing this in I think 2001. Southeaster headwind the first day plus the organizers had cocked up the tide tables so we had to take a detour to avoid the high tide on the beach road on day 1 which ended up being about 112 kays. Day two the wind had turned very Westerly....another headwind. Mr. 20Niner in the photos above was doing it in his beach buggy laughing at us struggling with our tubed wheels in the loose sand. Good times. Did anybody do this Singlespeed?
  15. Nice one Narra, came out a beaty. How about some more detail on how she rides? Still got the carbon "29 fork for you if you are keen to shave some weight.
  16. I would love one of these for my sprog when he's old enough to handle it but at $2500.00 might be a bit steep. Anyone know an engineering works / framebuilder that could attempt making something similar? Check out the site, the guy rides proper singletrack etc. http://forums.mtbr.com/showthread.php?p=3942620#poststop <?: prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" />I've only been a parent for 8 weeks, at this stage it still sucks as there's very little feedback or reaction from the miniMe but I'm looking forward to MTBing, surfing, paddling, camping and generally driving the wife up the wall with my little dude. (Not to mention sucking a few beers!!!) Oh ya and mostly PIMPING HIS RIDE! As for riding...still doing tons of it...you just prioritise and waste less time farting around. Ratty do you use your trailer offroad? Any advice on what to buy and look out for in a trailer? I want one that can at least handle the fire roads in Jonkers etc. XTC12010-02-05 07:41:29
  17. "Williams you have to wait forever to get help" Awesome guy, awesome shop, great place if you want to perve and talk bikes but certainly not when you're in a hurry to get something done! In Stellenbosh, Mason's Bike Inn gets my vote. I've never been to another shop where guys bend over backwards to help you out like he does and where they are willing to make your emergency THEIR emergency. If it's good enough for the Caveman and Dan Hugo it's good enough for me! XTC12010-02-05 04:08:32

    GT Peace 9'r

Peace 29 is a great bike. If you scrounge around and get lucky or buy 2nd hand parts you could probably build an On One Inbred for well under R7K. If any of you decide steel aint real or steel's getting a bit heavy I have an On One Inbred Carbon "29 fork in super mint condition I am considering selling. Only about 900 grams and has nice to and fro flex which is great for corrugations though unforgiving if you decide to try and jump....Planet X advertises them for about R2100 excluding postage, I will pass this one on for R1200 ex P&P. 19. With regard to stanchion wear and servicing, does the same sort of issues and service intervals count for the shock on a dually as well? Johann I would be interested in that fork workshop. Sick leave a-plenty!
  20. Nice setup. How did you attach the racks to the inside of the "bak"?
  21. if you can afford it use a bank-note. strong as anything.
  22. Don't know what size you require but there's a nice Giant Trance X2 in the for sale section for 16K.
  23. Get yourself half a kilo of cow. Once broken in you'll never look back. Brooks B-17. Pure soul.
  24. nocalves that bike looks awesome. What grips are those and where do they come from?
  25. I hate to tell you this but I have a crush on your bike!!! Are you running those non UST Bonty's tubeless? XTC12010-01-07 08:02:22
