  1. Hardekool. Leadwood grinders.
  2. Matching set of Kiaat salt and pepper grinders I turned sometime last year. Btw I have no idea why the uploader keeps turning my photos of the grinders on its side. ????
  3. Thanks Myles. Thought for a moment I was being completely stupid for not understanding this one. Not keen anyway to buy a bike from CL. I am sure I will get more than R5k discount from my lbs on most brands of mtb’s anyway.
  4. Do I understand this correctly, that if and when, bike booster is launched later this year the maximum cash back one will qualify for is R5000.00 off the price of a new bike purchased from Cyclelab? Paid back over 36 months, this amount to R138.89 per month. Hardly worth the effort!? But wait there's more: You get a free Team Vitality cycling membership for an a activation fee of R800.00. If I am not mistaken R800.00 is excactly what the vitality cycling membership costs anyway.
  5. 102,4 kg this morning. Lost 5.2 since 1 January. According to my BMI, I am officially out of the obese category. Next target is to drop into double digits for the first time in about 20 months, hopefully close to the end of the month. Waist circumference down from 113cm to 105. Can already notice a difference in how my pants fit.
  6. Real coffee, with or without full cream milk, will not derail a weight loss program, it might even help. Like anything in moderation off course, and without sugar off course.
  7. Very healthy, I should think. First and foremost it is a powerful antioxidant. From the top of my head I seem to remember that a heaped teaspoon of cocoa powder contains more antioxidants than a glass of good red wine. Some studies have also shown positive effects on cholestrol levels and blood pressure. Beware of to much before bedtime as it also contains a heathy dose of caffein. Doctors sometimes warn that people with a tendency to develop kidney stones should stay away from cocoa powder and chocolate, as the oxalate in cocoa can be a contributing factor in the formation of kidney stones.
  8. I might be wrong, but that is a very high carb breakfast? High protein breakfasts are supposed to be very beneficial for weight loss. What worked for me in the past is to go low carb and up the protein and fat somewhat. All of us are different though, might be worth to experiment somewhat. Read this perhaps: https://www.healthline.com/nutrition/protein-at-breakfast-and-weight-loss
  9. Have you taken your waist measurement before you started? Perhaps you are putting on muscle and losing fat around the waist.
  10. Weekend away with friends near Clarens unfortunately put an end to my dry January resolution. At least I stayed off the booze for 13 days! Had some wine and a beer, how can one visit Clarens without sampling some of the local brewery's fine amber liquid! Stayed away from other forms of carbs, no bread, potatoes and the like. Actually managed to loose a few hundred grams, even with the cheating (the alcohol). The cycling through Golden Gate in the mornings, and the short hikes in the mountains with the friends must have helped. Still motivated for the rest of the month and year. Starting a new 30 day alcohol free period as from today!
  11. What is often a bigger problem with alcohol than the hidden calories it contains, when trying to lose weight, is the fact that alcohol consumption releases dopamine. Dopamine, the feel good chemical, in moderate amounts off course is good for your health because when you are feeling good about yourself you are more likely to make good decisions regarding your health and wellbeing. However, consuming a few units of alcohol to quickly will flood your system with to much dopamine. All of a sudden you are feeling so good about yourself that you are actually losing your inhibitions. Now it is not so easy to make the right decisions any more. You might still know that the high carb and fatty bar snacks or that extra half of pizza is not good for you, but somehow it keeps disappearing down your pie hole. Before you even start to feel intoxicated, and almost without noticing, you might throw 2000+ junk calories down your throat.
  12. Feedback after week 1. Down 2.3 kg. OK I know most is probably water, but at least the weight is not going up any more. I am not really dieting at the moment, just eating much more healthy. Since 31 December I cut the following completely from my diet: No bread, rusks, biscuits, pasta, potatoes etc. What I am most chuffed about is that I haven't had a drop of alcohol since 31 December! Must say, it was quite tough Friday and Saturday evening! My wife and son were having a small sundowner with our braai, but I stood strong. Will be trying to stay dry for at least the whole of January. I will be focussing on meat, fish, poultry, dairy, eggs, veggies and fruit. Started riding the MTB around the farm again. After two and a half years of not following a regular and constructive exercise regime, it was quite hard work and also quite humiliating. What used to be, while I was very healthy and fit, my hour time trial route on the farm has now become my long ride! Goals for the rest of the month: 1. Stay off the booze and bread and stuff and slowly shrinking my appetite by getting accustomed to smaller portions. 2. Patiently get my nether regions accustomed to my trusty Fizik Gobi saddle again, by cycling at least 4 times per week, with 1 or 2 slightly longer rides included. 3. Staying as positive and motivated as I have been in week 1. Good luck to all! PS How long does it take for a new resolution to become engrained as a habit? Some say 21 days, some say 60.
  13. Please add me. Ipad does not want to edit. 2018 must be my year to make a fresh start and get my health back on track. Height = 1.87m Current weight = 107 kg Goal weight = 87 kg Age = 54
  14. Why are ag2r la mondiale driving the break as well as the yellow jersey group?
  15. All you can see in that image is Cav leaning with his head on Sagan's hip, Cav letting him know he is there, and obviously trying to open a line for himself. The 'elbow' are only starting to come out. I have looked at all angles available in slow motion and it is pretty clear that Sagan's elbow never even touched Cav. On the overhead shot, and the shot from the front one can see that as Cav's front wheel was in line with Sagan's rear, Cav's bike was all ready at a ridiculous angle. In all the images he never came right alongside Sagan. How could the elbow have caused the crash? Bad decision!
  16. Unfair assistance from the team car. Handing over the bottle and hanging on by the rider in order to get some free wheeling and even a slingshot effect back in to the slipstream of the bunch. Also adjusting the rear derailleur, the rider holds on to the team car.
  17. The TdF mafia blocked the video.
  18. Didn't scan the whole thread, so excuse me if it has been said before. What a relief not to have to sit through another 3 weeks of the "Phillipen Paul" show! No one riding like a man possessed, thank goodness!
  19. I can never understand the mentality of taking any kind of pain killers to complete an endurance event. If you are experiencing pain to such an extent that the body's own pain killers, in the form of endorphins, are not enough to curb the pain to manageable levels you should stop. That is what a pain signal is supposed to do, warn against possible permanent damage. Just a question for our in house doctors regarding the long term use of the mini aspirin, subscribed with statins, for the preventive treatment of cardiovascular risk due to elevated familial cholesterol. What is the risk of permanent kidney damage, taking the daily prescribed dose of aspirin, and partaking in endurance events on a regular base? Should one stop taking the aspirin when training something like say 8 to 12 hours per week? Should you just stop taking it while partaking in multi day events? Or should one perhaps "give your kidneys a rest ", by not taking the aspirin for something like a week every month or so. There is off course also the opinion of someone like dr Mercola, that the use of apirin to minimise the risk of a cardiac event is totally over rated, and that the long term use has more possible detrimental consequences than beneficial ones. http://articles.mercola.com/sites/articles/archive/2014/08/04/daily-aspirin-side-effects.aspx Whould be very interested to hear your opinions on these.
  20. How on earth did Sky allow a strong break containing Quintana to go up the road? Only a complete lack of concentration could explain that. I remember seeing one of the sky riders sitting right at th back of the peleton at kilometre 0. I thought Movistar's tactics the rest of the day was brilliant, especially upping the pace in the Froome group just enough so that the rest of team Sky could not rejoin the second group on the road. Awesome racing today!
  21. Hopefully they work OK. Not prepared to shell out 1500 to 2000 bucks for a Robert Sorby. My Lathe is not even worth that much! I spended about an hour on each grinding out the flute and bevel, carefull not to overheat the steel. Will give some feedback once I started using them.
  22. Thought I should post some of my home made lathe tools to defuse the Friday free for all! From the left, this was supposed to be the mother of all round nose scrapers, 22 mm thick by 100 mm wide leaf spring from a lorry cut in half with acetylene torch. Something went wrong with my heat treatment and annealing and the point snapped off after 5 mins of use. Scary! Next two scrapers made from Radex about 15 mm x 25 mm. Then some chisels and scrapers from old files. Next is a bedan made from square key steel, and then 2 bowl gouges, still to get handles, made from an old gorilla type steering wheel lock. At the bottom some bead cutting as well as cove cutting scrapers made from anything like an old 6 mm chisel, old files, and old screwdrivers.
