  1. I'll be honest (not justifying the rudeness)' date=' but some hubbers are pretty strange. You post a frame for sale, with pics and all the details. Then someone e-mails you and asks if you have "XXX" wheel set? [img']https://assets.bikehub.co.za/legacy_images/smilies/smiley5.gif[/img] One thing that I have noticed, is that hubbers shop for bargains... not for quality, not for what they need.... but purely for bargains. Maybe I'm wrong, maybe I'm generalising. But that is the feeling that I get.
  2. These hubs are not so great! The rubber seal does not do a good enough job, and therefore too much gunk gets into the freehub body too quickly. To keep the hub running well, it needs regular servicing. For average enthusiast riding, I would recommend every two months. If you don't service it regularly, water and muck start causing corrosion on the tower (the bit that the rollers roll on). If that tower gets corroded (happens more often than you'd like to know), then you'll need to replace it... get the lube ready! It's pretty pricey! The freehub body bearing also doesn't last very long. I would replace that at each service. A bit pricey, but worth it to get good life out of the hub. Plus, you don't want the hub to seize on a ride! IMO, I would upgrade to a Hope or DT340 hub. They're far more reliable and use better freehub body systems. The 340 is brilliant, but not that cheap. The Hope's a little more affordable, and good value for money!
  3. I'm sure she could pinch fat!
  4. Yeah, the Hope's are really good value for money! Those laced to some decent rims will give a good, reliable wheelset. It will also cost a few grand less than Deemax's. I haven't ridden with Deemax's. All I know is that they're light, expensive and the rims are a little soft. If I had to have only one wheelset, I'd rather do something with "normal" rims.
  5. I'm not sure she likes gravity... it's making her life pretty difficult
  6. The white rims you see on those bikes are the 1750's. It's an all-mountain wheelset. The pro DH racers use them because they're light, and the rims are soft enough to dent on impact. When you're going for podiums in a world cup race, you'd rather ding a rim than pinch flat. I wouldn't advise them for normal riders, unless you have tons of $$$ to replace rims. The Deemax's are tougher, but from what I've heard, the rim is pretty soft too. I would recommend Sun Ringle MTX 33's, Mavic 729, Mavic 819 (UST) or DT 6.1D's laced to some Hope hubs or DT 440 hubs. The Sun Jumping Flea's are decent hubs too. The Hope or DT hubs will last you ages and are easily serviced! Also, for most guys, it's a good idea to stick to a wheelset that uses regular spokes. It just makes getting spare spokes and rims a little easier. Especially in the arse end of Africa
  7. 5'2" http://i111.photobucket.com/albums/n130/hellchops/brad.jpg That's me on my current XS Glory.
  8. Mine's coming in Feb
  9. A scratch on a fork stanchion is not a warranty claim. Scratches happen through crashes (accidents) or misuse.
  10. There's still plenty of parking There's now a short video on http://www.nsrmtb.co.za/ Mike and Gail are doing Cycle Mashatu in Botswana this weekend, so the shop will be closed from Friday to Tuesday. But I'll be there doing more work on the track. We're going to smooth out some of the small bumps that have developed. A new technical line will be added too
  11. We have built a pump track where part of parking lot was. Much better use of the space If you're not sure what a "pump track" is, do some Youtube searches and you'll get a good idea. Basically, it's a small track consisting of berms and rollers. It's designed for zero pedaling... just use of skill to build up and maintain speed. But most importantly to have FUN! The nice thing is that you can use almost any bike on it. MTB jump bikes and BMX's are the most efficient. We plan on having a small race series at the track, with prizes and all that jazz! Good times! NSRMTB posted some pics and small write up, check it out here: http://www.nsrmtb.co.za
  12. Nice frame! But why not keep it period specific? It's a collectible! You guys are going to love Mike's (Barth) GT STS He's just waiting for decals...
  13. The 4.2 is light weight xc rim. If your pressure is more or less correct, and you totaled it then you'll need some heavier duty rims. The 5.1's are pretty good!
  14. Oh crisis! I really want to... but can't really afford it. Was looking at flying down on Sat night' date=' and flying back Sund night. Ticket's R2500 return [img']https://assets.bikehub.co.za/legacy_images/smilies/smiley19.gif[/img] I'm very tempted to do silly things and just book!
  15. I really like this! IIRC, they came on Gary Fisher's. Do they still? Anyone have one lying around? I added a front brake to mine, and changed the Axel to a Sid Race (an old one... gotta love freebies!)
