  1. I run in the Cradle for the same reason cyclists are cycling there... There are not a lot of cars and it is beautiful. You don't have to cross busy intersections and you cannot (really) get lost. It is an excellent training route, and I find it challenging. Most cyclists are friendly and give way. Except for the one p03pol that swore at us for running in the Cradle. We were running in single file when he passed us and we were wearing visible clothes, I always run with a white cap... I think he was either jealous of us or really suffering on his bike. He is just plain stupid shouting the F-word at a bunch of runners. He has clearly never seen runners react to a car/taxi trying to cross over a road at a race.
  2. The question is do I go running in this terrible cold weather in Gauteng or go to the gym? I really cannot afford to get sick now...
  3. Or 7 "little runs" https://themarathon.co/2018/05/03/comrades-is-only-seven-little-runs/
  4. Yes for last week... Yes, there are crazies running more than 100km per week...
  5. First top 10 for me, it was an ok-ish week. Had a terrible run at Jackie Mekler, but at least I ran. Weather temperatures not looking great in Jhb this week, I guess I will catch up on my gym sessions for Vitality.
  6. I guess the screenshot must be made on Monday morning for those still training at 12 at night...
  7. https://www.goodthingsguy.com/people/from-domestic-worker-to-medical-doctor/ "Pamela Sithole, now an intern Doctor at Rahima Moosa Mother and Child Hospital, had to juggle her studies and part-time domestic work to put herself through varsity. Sithole, 25, who graduated last month with a distinction in dermatology, used her earnings to buy bare necessities such as food and clothing while studying." How awesome is this??? Truly inspirational.
  8. Have you been to Irene? I know they are a very big club and I am not sure about their club runs. One of my friends is there and he always raves about them.
  9. I think yesterday's Comrades sub 7 talk was a great motivator! Awesome work guys, I have so much respect and envy at the same time.
  10. So what are your training plans for the weekend? I am running Jackie Mekler 25km tomorrow and a relaxing 15km on Sunday before having a huge lunch with my family for Mother's Day.
  11. Good luck with that. I cannot even run that for 10km nevermind 90 km.
  12. I did in 2015. I completely disagree and agree with this. It was definitely not easy to let go, it was the worst time in my life and I don't wish it upon my biggest enemy. Yes, we do tend to talk more about our emotions to friends and family. We also have ups and downs. Some days you want to be left alone and some days you want to finish a bottle of wine or two with friends. I think what made it easier for me is the fact that I have always been very independent (even financially). When I got divorced I bought my own toolbox and drill, I have assembled my own bookcase, I have done maintenance around my place and I even clean my own pool. I have a strong belief that we are not supposed to grow old alone. It is a very scary thought to open your heart to someone new and to trust again. To be honest I am petrified of a serious relationship and marriage.
  13. I missed 3 months somewhere. With our club's Comrades braai coming up I had to draw the names of our members running this year. I love working with data so I did some investigation on the number of members that did not qualify. 26% of our members did not qualify, almost 30%, which to me is a scary number. The most popular qualifier is Kaapse Hoop, with 18% of our runners qualifying at Kaapse Hoop. In the second place, it was Vaal Marathon with 14% and third Irene with 11%. We have 11 novices this year and 10 doing their back 2 backs. Would love to get my hands on all the Comrades data.
  14. So 30 days to go.... When does panic training start?
  15. I also sit 10 to 12 hours a day behind a computer. A physio told me that you have to take a walk or move at least every hour. I struggle with it when I am under pressure, but I do try and get a bit of a leg stretch.
  16. If I look at my predicted time it is definitely out with at least an hour.
  17. Good luck with your new life. I know you want to forget this day for the rest of your life but try and see the positive in it and learn from it. Have a beer or two or more tonight. ("celebrate" it) This is the time to reflect on what went wrong (from both sides). I don't mean that you must point fingers or play the blame game. That is over now. Decide what you want in a partner. I made a mental list of all my ex's issues and my own, and what I wanted for myself going forward. Don't settle for anything less and DON'T rush into anything. Spend time with yourself, get to know yourself again, as you tend to forget who you are as a human being and what is important to you. You have a second chance now to be happy, you owe it to yourself. PS. Some of the posts in this thread made me laugh!! Thanks for that.
  18. I seriously struggle to train in winter. On Saturday morning it was 3 degrees in the Cradle and I was wearing normal summer tights with a long sleeve shirt and short sleeve shirt... I thought I am going to die. I only took off my long sleeve after 15 kilometers. I run with long tights and sometimes two long sleeve shirts and a beanie if it is very cold. If it is really cold (July/ early August) I go to the gym.
  19. No, because he won last year's South African race he could choose where he wants to participate this year. He chose Zug. I see the guy that won in Zug has beaten him with 600m.
  20. For the novices out there, very interesting read: https://themarathon.co/2018/05/03/comrades-is-only-seven-little-runs/
  21. Where is the TheHub "dislike" button?
  22. Congrats to Renier Grobler. 2nd at Zug Wings for Life World Run and 6th OVERALL in the world. The first guy almost ran a Comrades
  23. A bottle of wine seems to work as well....
  24. Thanks for the suggestions, will give it a try at gym
  25. Does anyone know of an over the counter antihistamine that is non-drowsy? Long story short the ENT I went to thinks my nausea is caused by motion sickness. I went for numerous tests (MRI, VNG test, and Hearing test) and it is not vertigo or an inner ear problem. I have to go see a neurologist in two weeks time. In the meantime, I googled what helps for motion sickness and antihistamine was one of the suggestions.
