  1. I had a TomTom a couple of years ago. Battery life was terrible, not sure if this is better now. I also didn't like the heart rate monitor, I chafed terribly. It depends on the distance your wife wants to run. This is where the battery life plays a role. GPS is important... and of course Strava/online apps. It really helps to see your progress and it keeps you motivated. I only have experience with Garmin, running and cycling, so I will also go for the FR35.
  2. Hopefully will be sorted out by next week, but I won't be holding my breath.
  3. Questions they should add to a marathon entry: How do you truly feel about marathon double lappers? At which kilometer do you hit the wall? What calculation do you suffer most with, in the last 10kms of a marathon? avg pace? predicted finish time? counting the number of poles before you walk?Do you always tell yourself "I will never do this to myself again" after a marathon?
  4. I have a contact.... I will try and get you an entry. Can you please PM me the following info: Name Surname Cell Number License Number and Province (AGN or CGA) Championchip Nr ID Number Postal Address Medical Aid Info - Medical Aid and Number Nr of JC completed Shirt size (not sure if you will get one) Emergency contact name and cell number
  5. Thanks for the motivation (reality check)! I don't know if I can handle not running for 1 week, nevertheless for 6 months.
  6. Where is the unlike button on theHub... That is just scary! I felt the same way at Kudus on Sunday, I blame the altitude. Any advice on how to get up in the mornings to train??? I have set my alarm yesterday and today and I just hit the snooze button and slept further. Even nightmares about Comrades is not motivating me at the moment.
  7. This is really sad to read once again on TheHub. There was a thread "Divorce" a while ago. This was my response in 2016 and I still feel the same way.
  8. That equates to 14km every day...
  9. So I saw this link on Facebook, any comments? This is an article written by Kevin Matthews. He ran 5000 km in 2016 "I achieved the extra time on legs by running twice a day as much as possible and since June this year averaging nearly 140k a week and 10-12 runs. Pace wise I slowed down in the week but tried to race at least once a fortnight, sometimes more often. This allowed me to move into the Matt Fitzgerald 80% slow and steady and 20% at pace training split." http://www.runbkrun.com/2016/12/31/2016-proved-its-all-about-distance/ PS. This is also quite an interesting article about how to improve your PB: http://www.runbkrun.com/2018/01/03/secret-to-running-a-pb-pr-really-is-simple/
  10. Bruce should join this thread, as we predicted: http://www.brucefordyce.com/single-post/2018/01/05/THE-WOMENS-RACE-SET-TO-EXCITE---COMRADES-MARATHON-2018 Sent from my SM-G935F using Tapatalk
  11. Crap... I should not have had a hangover on the 31st... Could have been in the top 3. Happy 2018 everyone!! May it be your best running year to date. I got a reminder that it is Varsity Kudus on Sunday.. Ugh, feel 3kgs heavier even with all the training while on holiday. Sent from my SM-G935F using Tapatalk
  12. How beautiful is the new Asics Nimbus 20 Women's shoe .... Of course a beautiful price as well. Sent from my SM-G935F using Tapatalk
  13. If anyone is interested, here is a link to the .ics file with all the 2018 Gauteng Running Races (road (shown as blue) and trail (shown as green)) as well as some of the other important races around the country. Thank you to RAC for providing me with the info. https://tinyurl.com/y95dkcwc Enjoy! PS. Will be adding other provinces soon.
  14. Same boat! Ran a 10km on Saturday and I can still feel the niggle in my right inner part of the calve. Will have to fit in a trip to the physio as well. Very frustrating!
  15. Have an awesome Christmas everyone, and please be safe out there. We lost a fellow club member two weekends ago that was hit by a car... Enjoy the time with your families, make time for them as it becomes difficult to do from January to Comrades. Unfortunately, no resting over December. (See you on Strava!)
  16. Ligh rain sure, but not the downpours we had this week. Weather is looking promising for the weekend!
  17. It has been a rest week in Gauteng.... And I picked up a calve niggle, I think from running on the treadmill. Hopefully the emergency massage I had last night helps. I desperately need to go for a run. Sent from my SM-G935F using Tapatalk
  18. As soon as it stops raining in Gauteng.... Sent from my SM-G935F using Tapatalk

  20. For $150 this is cheaper than Asics at the moment! https://www.runnersworld.com/running-shoes/brooks-3d-printed-shoes
  21. Thank you for all the cross training feedback. I have emailed the CrossFit studio and asked if they have a "two days" a week option. Going to be tough at the start. Looking forward to be as stiff as hell. Sent from my SM-G935F using Tapatalk
  22. Asics Nimbus around 1000km Sent from my SM-G935F using Tapatalk
  23. So I noticed that a CrossFit studio opened in our office park. I am a firm believer in cross-training while training for Comrades. Can anyone recommend CrossFit as the cross-training option? How many times do you go per week?
