  1. I was thinking about it but unfortunately due to family commitments I am not going to be there. Enjoy the race!
  2. I really like Gerda! So I am rooting for her. She is so down to earth and she deserves the title. I see there is a 10/21 km in Pretoria on Saturday the 18th, Quatro Race of Hope 21/10/5 https://www.entrytime.com/event-details/?EventId=6022 (Don't know if that side of the Jukskei is too far for you) PS. Any ideas where to hide under a rock the weekend of the 9th of June? Preferably no cellphone reception and no TVs.
  3. Sorry to hear about your bad race Carpet. Congrats on finishing Om Die Dam! It is the toughest ultra on my race calendar. Well done on completing it, you could have bailed, but you didn't!!! These are the races that will make you mentally stronger for future races. Don't feel discouraged. Hope you are back on the road soon.
  4. I feel the OMTOM relay is just wrong. I guess for them it is about making more money out of desperate runners that couldn't qualify for whatever reason. What is next, a relay at Comrades? You either run the full ultra or you don't. I have been struggling since Comrades last year, so I will rather sit this year out than just run 28km. Do they get the same medals/t-shirts/bragging rights?
  5. Just out of interest sake, do they still have a mat at the 42km mark at Irene or only at the finish?
  6. If your friend can run a trail run, I am sure they can do the 56km... Still looking for someone to take my 56km off my hands.
  7. Can I downgrade? I got a 21km entry from another runner Sent from my SM-G960F using Tapatalk
  8. Thank you Pulse for the info. I will give my doctor a call. It sounds like more rest for me If anyone is looking for an OMTOM 56km entry send me a PM.
  9. Thanks Andrew! I luckily got a 21km OMTOM substitution entry... I guess it is better than not running at all after paying so much money for accommodation and flight tickets. I am with you on the shorter distances. I have decided to concentrate on the shorter distances and build up again towards OMTOM and Comrades next year. PS. Happy belated birthday!
  10. My biopsy tests came back positive for the H.Pylori bacteria once again and the Gastroenterologist is convinced it is causing my nausea. So, antibiotics here we go again. I started on the 4th of March with 500mg of Amoxil and 500mg of Tavanic for 5 days (twice a day). It made me feel really crap. This meant I missed my qualifier (Kosmos) for OMTOM as I only finished my antibiotics on the day of the race. Both the pharmacist and the doctor said I should not exercise while I am drinking these antibiotics. I waited for 3 days and went for a run last night. I felt not too bad for the first couple of kms but after 4 kms I was cramping so badly in both my calf muscles. I could barely walk the last km back to my car. This morning when I woke up I can still feel the pain in both my calf muscles. Not sure if it is or me or TheHub search not working... Is this the antibiotics? How long should I rest after using antibiotics? Has anyone experienced bad cramping after antibiotics?
  11. I love Deloitte's. Very tough race, but mentally so worth it. Beautiful route and I like the support. I have been stuck in the portaloo queue twice when the gun went off... Try and make a loo stop at a garage close to the start.
  12. Has anyone used this yet? https://www.runnersworld.com/news/a26362277/strava-new-app-building-routes-easy/
  13. To be honest I haven't paid much attention to my HR and nausea. At the moment I am moving so slowly my HR does not go higher than 160-ish. I am mostly in Z2. I think part of the problem now is I have this horrible mental block. I slow down / start stressing when I see an uphill. I am going back to the specialist next week (new year and new MSA to spend). I tested positive for reflux with a barium swallow test. The weird thing is I don't have heartburn. The medication (PPI) is not helping. If anyone has experience with reflux and running, please feel free to share.
  14. Sorry to hear that Andrew! It was a very tough route and like I said I won't do that marathon. I agree with Barry, you have done a 37 km training run. Hope your knee feels better soon! PS. I am supporting at Vaal, tapering for Kosmos the weekend after Vaal. Will see you at the 30km mark
  15. My plan was to try and run until the 15km mark without walking the water points. Nausea usually sets in on uphills and because I haven't done Jeppe before I didn't know what to expect. The first half of the route is very tough with some long drags. I had to dig really deep not to walk before the 15km mark. When I got to the 15km mark I felt ok and my running buddy suggested we stretch it to 17km. The Fat Cats bus came up behind us after we turned right onto Kloof road and they helped me to keep going. Luckily kilometers 18 and 19 was downhill. I took my first walk at the last uphill of the race. We walk for about 30 seconds and then continued on to the horrible grass section to the finish. Overall a good day out for me. I am not close speed wise to where I should be but at the moment I need to mentally prepare myself for a marathon. 26 days to go to Kosmos...
  16. I guess it is similar to this: https://everesting.cc/run/ Which is absolutely ridiculous - running it or riding it... I have a friend that is planning to ride Hillsnacks. I see there is no South African on the running Hall of Fame yet...
  17. Andrew, how did your marathon go yesterday?
  18. Thank you for sharing Jaws, that was amazing to watch and so inspiring!!
  19. This is the only reason I am playing Lotto at the moment...

  22. For example Team Vitality. They don't have a clubhouse and weekly runs. You basically pay R475 for a running vest and your CGA licence. They do have a gazebo at some races. Edit: My bad, I see they do have clubhouses. Not sure if they have Time Trials etc.
  23. I think this could be quite handy while running: https://www.takealot.com/infantino-squeeze-station-white/PLID52750437
  24. Foam rolling helps a lot, you will recover much quicker. Make sure there are no kids around as you will be swearing a lot... PS. Congrats on joining a club... and not just a virtual club. You won't be disappointed.
  25. OMTOM extended Qualifier window to 25 March 2019:
