  1. I feel so sad and angry at the same time. When will this madness stop!!! RIP Burry, you are a hero
  2. I know I will be shot down but I use my iPhone in a shock/water proof case running Mapmyride/Cyclemeter software. The obvious negative is the battery but I get about 3.5 hours whichis fine for my riding. The positives for me are - large colour screen - online tracking (My wife can see where I am) - Intergrated with my heart monitor - can share rides with friends
  3. I am sure its always better to ride with someone but i have been riding the spruit on my own for the last 2 years. From Paulshof to Delta, some areas look a little dodgy but I think its realitvy safe.
  4. The Nespresso is a great machine, what bugs me is that the system that costs just over R3000 in SA costs R1900 in Germany - Same system???? I was there on business and would have brought it home if i had the space.
  5. These 'clowns' seed from the races listed - If you dont have times in these races how would they know. But they would reseed you on any additional info you provide.

    2012 94.7

This years race was the second biggest (a few years ago there were 28,000). I think the biggest reason is people riding without chips but have have to see registration on Sat afternoon to see how many people entered and never collected their race packs. Then you get a small number that dont pitch on the day and then the people who dont finish.

    2012 94.7

The last group is at 09:56 which is somewhat later than last year, will give about 35 min more than last year to get back to the start for the second lap.
  8. Its Ok but a little overrated/

    2012 94.7

The route will be slightly shorter than last year (and no St Andrews hill). The route now goes off the highway at Joe Slovo (the Wilds) and then on to the M1. This cuts out the loop around the hospital who had issues getting doctors, staff and patents into the hospital. Now the route is about 94Kms
  10. I can't agree. I have an Edge and have used it for a few years. I recently 'upgraded' to an iPhone mounted on my handlebars in a shockproof, waterproof case. I ran the Edge and the iPhone together for a while to compare results, they give very similar accuracy except the iPhone is a large colour display with many more screens of information. You can also be online and send your position while you are training to someone if you wish. There are just so many more options available including heart rate monitor and cadence on one display (and recorded together as one event) I have to agree that the battery life is its weak spot, I get just over 3 hours with screen and gps always on.
  11. Some of tthe points have been mentioned here but my view What I like It is stable (even more than my Garmin which from many threds on The Hub sometimes switches off) Large colour discplay As accurate as a dedicated device Not so nice It is fragile Battery life (althought the iPhone 4 will run with screen on for four hours)
  12. GPS system do calculate 3D and do take altitude into account.
  13. Have to agree - I have the pleasure of working with him on this race and some others and he is so good at what he does. SA's version of Phil Ligget
  14. Four top international professional cyclists who will be riding in the 94.7 will also be doing a 'TwitterRide' the day before the 94.7. Included in the ride will be DanMartin from team Garmin Cervelo, Dean Downing from team Rapha-Condor-Sharp, Russ Downing from Team Sky and Stephen Roche. They will be joined by local sporting legends Joel Stransky and Francois Pienaar, among others. Anyone is welcome to join the Twitter ride which will start and finish at Waterfall Country Estate, the same finish venue as Cycle Challenge Sunday. Participants will cover a gentle 35km and rolling road closures as well as marshals and medical support will ensure the safety of participants. Momentum has generously laid on some coffee and muffins at the finish area, where cyclists can also get photographs and autographs with these cycling stars Follow the Momentum 94.7 Cycle Challenge on Twitter @momentum94.7, and like the Facebook page to ensure you're up to date on all the info
  15. Well done Carte Blanche. I know we would have like more in the 12 minutes but lets not knock one of the few groups that aired the story. The police are the ones that should be investigating this, Carte Blanche gave awareness to the problem. We know about the problem because it affects us, people who dont ride have no idea. Lets keep up the momentum!!
  16. I have to agree, there are so many well run races in SA and many people who could run this event. CSA should stick to managing and developing the sport. Outsource these events to professional organisations that have the capacity to run a successful event.
  17. I use BikeMate GPS for the iPhone. I really great app and works well. The only problem is where is mount youe iPhone4
  18. I see the MTB results are up http://www.cyclechallenge.co.za/
  19. I think many entered but did not start and many started but did not finish. The N14 looked like a war zone in the late afternoon.
  20. The social tandems started at 07:33 last year and this moves to 07:54 this year, so 21 minutes later. This is due to the additional minute added to each start group to avoid congestion at the finish. Groups (after the initial racing groups) do go in alphabetical order and start exactly on time Lets hope its not too hot and the rain stays away. Ride safe
  21. SMS's go out on 25th October
  22. I dont know what some people are on about, what other race in SA is going to offer full road closure (apart from the Argus) I think its a great race
  23. Did the guys get away?? I hope not.
  24. I've had a 305 for about 2 years and never a days problem. But based on many posts, I think if you have the money, go for the 705
  25. In too much of a good mood to get excited about this. Even in cycling you get idiots but the majority are positive. Let?s just go with it<?: prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" />
