  1. Fine Breede will be missed - loved it. Willow Creek is still going : Nuy Festival Trail Run and MTB | Entry Ninja – the best outdoor, fitness and sporting event entries in your area.
  2. Porcupine Ridge MTB Fine Breede MTB Philadelphia MTB Cederberg100Miler 1-day Race STBB4GOOD MTB
  3. The old Kona can take a break now at the West coast. Served me well on the 99er last weekend.
  4. Now that was lekker, started in G, ended up with N and I could just about keep up on the 26er. 99er - 99km warm up then go "er" and now you race back to where you parked. I'm 8 minutes slower than last year but I'll blame it on the bike. Nothing to do with the fact that I was smashed after turning onto Adderley. I felt like that Jeep Compass.... a bit off and on my side.
  5. If I recall the reason 99er no longer does Vissershok is because riders got a bit unruly on the N7, especially in the last few ones that got on at Philadelphia. Back in 2011 when I rode my first one (short 50km route) there were signs on the N7 to only ride in single file. Yeah, good luck getting roadies to do that in a race. There was this one time it used Malanshoogte with a short section of gravel and it was fun! I still rode a road bike back then and had no issues. Yet complaints were plentiful afterwards. So... I guess now it is what it is. I liked last year which is why I am back again.
  6. Fair point - I can only blame the rider.
  7. 19 years old, washed, lubed, knobbies @ 3bar - Check Will it make it in under 4 hours? - Doubtful
  8. Always wanted to try this new route - so glad we got the chance to do so!
  9. Keen to get up there again, I love this event.
  10. This was awesome! Glad to be back after 3 years. Perfect weather, so scenic! My only "constructive criticism" would be to please take into account the cost of fuel. I simply cannot afford to drive into Durbanville two days in a row just to register on the Friday and ride on the Saturday. Please allow on day registration for us who do not stay close to the pre-registration venues.
  11. First 10,000km in the bag. Let's see if this one beats the 31,000km I got out of the previous Sola.
  12. Yikes - I dumped my bike in a dam on the route just to get the the bike in ridable state again. Rode the bike back home (about 10km) and it was making absolutely horrible noises. Washed it with a bucket and hose, lubed it up and it was fine on a 44km lap around Simonsberg yesterday. Still want to know where they cut the route short. My guess is g-spot at the start?
  13. Yeah, I prefer my trails marked - not seeked. Sorry, Nissan events screwed us over once so we will never do any of their events ever again. Lucky for me they gave it a name I can make fun of. Trailseeker - I mean like the least you could have done was mark the damn trail.... Go figure. Nissan. Pfft. Still wonder where the missing 10km and 200m climb went too? Other than the twice that I did getting to the venue and back home.
  14. As was I - turns out they shortened it to 47km?
  15. It would have been prudent of me to have been overdressed - but I was not - which is why I felt that cold to the bone. I was easy to spot, green and white shirt, MTB baggies, hardtail bike with home-made white-wall front tyre. The idea was not to white-wall it, it's just that the tyre has seen 9000km and now the rubber on the sidewalls is starting to come off so I used silicone sealant to fix it.
  16. Well done to Sue Kirk and the rest of the team! You all pulled off a perfectly organised ride. I have had my share of inaugural rides and this ranks amongst the best of in terms of planning and execution. Also huge thanks to all the towns and their traffic departments as well as the marshals. I was really impressed with how this played out. As for the actual ride, load shedding resulted in us pulling up to the start at 7:01 but thankfully the start was delayed until 7:10. I was surprised when I saw 2°C on the way there - but it was confirmed soon as we started to move - it was blooming cold. I did my own thing on the hardtail and kept a steady pace of 26km/h, soon a whole bunch of roadies seems to have formed behind me with the odd one popping in for a chat every now and then. I did see 1.4°C on the way to Piketberg but one guy said his Garmin showed 0.1°C at some stage. So a very chilled first stretch. Soon as we crested the Piketberg climb the roadies dropped me, my setup just is not that fast downhill. I did have my 2.35 knobbies at 3 bar but that is about as far as I went in terms of changing things VS my normal setup. Excellent marshalling through Piketberg. On the other side I saw a lady with a mechanical issue from a far. As I came closer I saw it was a much more involved breakdown as her crank was lying on the ground I jokingly said "I would have loved to help but unfortunately I left my welder at home today". After a second or so she burst into laughter and said, thanks, that helps. The road from Piketberg to Redelinghuis was new to me, but beautiful. I rode solo most of the way - as planned. Stopped for a water fill up and banana at the Redelinghuis waterpoint and while I was there someone laughed "Oh is that the welder guy". All round the vibe from fellow riders and organisers was positive and encouraging. Took a long time to reach Elandsbay, I was anticipating the climb, went past faster than anticipated. Coming closer to Dwarskersbos the roads became more and more familiar. The last stretch from Dwarskersbos to Veldrif was a treat as I ride that road a lot. I took a left at he finish back to the start to complete the 222km. I do hope this event returns to the calendar next year, at the price it is excellent. The cold and the distance reminded me of a 30 something me doing Transkaroo, altough 40 something me will never do something like Transkaroo again, this 222km ride is a more accessible challenge. Saw a few other MTBs at the start, but never saw them come past me so I think I may have been the first MTB to finish? Sun starting to make things a little more cozy Heading towards Redlinghuis This Kombi has seen better days My own home made medal waiting for me at the Riviera hotel
  17. Could well be. Couple of months ago the bike had a terrible wobble after taking it in for a full service (I got lazy). Turns out they used some weird sealant topup that mixed with whatever was still in the tyre and it caused a massive rubber blob to form on the inside of that tire.
  18. Just go with Fedhealth since they mark the trail and you don't need to seek it. Seriously - I'll never do another Nissan related ride - f.....kem.
  19. I'll be doing this on a hard tail MTB (with 2.4 tyres at 3bar). As someone that did all 6 Transkaroo rides of 240km this seems a little easier - but I do not plan to finish in the dark. That said - it was 5 years ago. Not sure how this will pan out for me.
  20. Getting close to doing that again. Continental that has been on this bike since I got it in September 2020. It has seen 2x Argus and 3x DBX. Out lasting many other riders that had flats on the last one with all the thorns. Nearing 9000km.
