Simple. Some people do not want to hear what the truth might be as they have so much "invested" in one person/idol/deity but the fact that he mentioned that person has got them up in arms.
How certain are they/we that he was the most tested athlete? I wonder if any stats are available? Accepting his word for it is just daft. My (limited) understanding is that the first EPO tests did not actually look for EPO but an increased haemocrit level (anyone out there with more info) and it was based against an arbitrary figure of 50%.
I wonder how happy some hubbers would be if a dog ran out in front of them, caused injuries to them and damage to their bikes and the owner of the dog told them to get knotted when they tried to claim damages? I would sue - i used my money to purchase the bike and equipment and my money that will pay for the medical bills, so why should some plonker who cannot keep his dog under control get away with it?
Cycling authorities have been turning a blind eye for years, often for an envelope passed under the table or, ironically, a contribution to the anti-doping fund. Not sure why so many people want them to be anything else now?
I am sceptical about 99%of the pro peleton and as long as that clenbuterol situation is plausible, it will get milked by the lot of them for all it's worth IMO.

Interesting that the Sports Uni lab in Cologne, Germany (WADA accredited) tested 28 travellers returning to Germany from a trip to China. 22 of them tested positive fro low levels of clenbuterol probably due to misuse of clenbuterol as a growth promoter in stock-breeding. Perhaps it was unintentional?
