  1. Don't rule out pivots if you're standing....can be a million things. I've had a BB cream that only manifested at the dead spot transition and not while standing.....I've chased creaks all over both my bikes.
  2. How would OP patch the tyre? Do the patches go on the outside?
  3. I use benzine or thinners. If you use benzine wear gloves and a mask....not good for your liver apparently. As most sealants use latex in some shape or form you can try really hot water....
  4. I love it when I get lowballed...I'll pay you Rx......CASH.....like I was going to accept instalments, salt, goats cattle....FFS!
  5. Thanks. Yip, the plan is to lose and keep weight off via IF, eating less calories than I need, especially for the initial period, and becoming fat adapted and keeping up rides but doing shorter, lower intensity rides. I'm tracking food intake and logging ride calories burnt on the Fat Secret app which seems to suit my needs pretty well.
  6. Getting an organiser on board would be a big help in terms of sponsors, credibility, a verification that it's a valid idea, approvals and planning assistance etc ....but they might decide they don't need you, although a small part of something, is worth more than a big part of nothing.
  7. For urban areas for instance City of Joburg, and probably many others, there is an events act that governs any gathering above a certain number of people. Fire safety is one component of that. I've worked in the JOC of Walk the Talk and 947 Cyclechallenge and was exposed to this in fair detail. As was explained to me, when you're standing in front of a judge explaining deaths and injuries, you better have all your approvals ....
  8. Long endurance rides are my game, - once I'm lighter and fat adapted
  9. I didn't say no carbs..I said almost eliminating. To elaborate - from relying on a guestimate of probably 70-80% daily on carbs to around 20%.
  10. Very interesting video, thank you.
  11. 100%. The plan is to burn fat via eating less, and virtually no carbs. I've been a carb junky too long. Interestingly I suffer from allergic asthma which is mostly under preventative control by once daily inhaler. After almost eliminating carbs my breathing feels way better after just over a week.
  12. Sorry not picking a fight with you but I didn't mention calorie counting at all.....to the contrary, I love calories to much....
  13. I started last week Thursday and riding in strict Z2 -Z 2.5 on the odd climb and after 5 rides I can feel an improvement ie I don't feel completely bonked during riding
  14. Are Ketone strips of any value in assessing fat adaptation? (in the event of not having access to the blood test etc equipment)?
  15. Yip, body fat content way too high. As per post, I have experimented with IF an had encouraging results. The issue was that I didn't stick to it long term and it got lost in trying to do higher intensity stuff and fuelling for that.... I eat less total calories as I do not eat any extra in the remaining 2 meals. My understanding of IF AND fasted (low intensity ides) is that it forces your body to adapt to burning fat as a source of fuel. I am typically an all or nothing guy. 26 years ago I quit smoking when I started cycling. Over the years I tried to cut back but after 19 years of smoking, cold turkey was what got me to the goal. Same with calories, I love food, am a self taight chef/cook and after cycling its a love of mine and I find it very hard to get by by limiting quantities all the time, I rather don't do a meal at all.....
  16. In the past I've experimented with fasted rides and 18:6 fasting and had encouraging results. I'm 61 years old and ride 4 times a week. I've been trying to lose weight and over the last 5 years have dropped from 125kg to around 100 then up to 113 and now after a couple of weeks, back at just under 110. Where I've become derailed previously (I think) is trying to lose weight and train, doing longer rides on weekends and the odd set of HIT on a weekdays, so I've decided to scrap that and focus on weight loss ONLY. As if I can lose around 15kg the climbing ability and fitness will be easier to achieve. To do this I've started doing 18:6 fasting, skipping breakfast and eating again at 12:00, for the last week, and riding 4 days, fasted at Z2 for 2 hours Tue, Thur and weekends. My question is, can and should I fast 18:6 every day or should I have breakfast now and then? I manage to get to 12:00 without too much hunger ... My nemesis used to be carbs and in particular bread, pasta etc. Most days I might eat a wrap with one of my meals or 2 slices of toast very seldom, going with a much higher protein and somewhat higher on fat - I'm going to look at reducing fat content going forward....
  17. Yip. Once you get Stiction of the material, you get Friction.....or something like that and it helps braking performance. It applies to racing car brakes with carbon discs as well.
  18. Thank you all who contributed. As per above, I've been gifted a set of Spez ones, hope they solve the problem. Safe rides
  19. I weighed less 11 years ago and having ridden much less over the last 3 years, post some prostrate cancer, I am now in my 60's so I am after a very slightly bigger shoe......half sizes are not always available and sizes vary slightly in either width or length e.g. older Spez were known to be narrow - ask me I have a pair.....
  20. My Lakes are a 44 and fit 99% ok. Lots of arch support and maybe a tiny bit short but they are reaching the end of the road. They are 11 years old, I've done a carbon repair on one sole when a car parked on my toes after he hit me from a side road - I kid you not. I've twice had to glue all three soles on one shoe together and they are basically a bunch of kangaroo hide and carbon loosely held in formation by contact adhesive, but I love them.
  21. Tomik has very kindly sent me some Spez soles.....shows what special people tread the halls of the Hub. Thank you;
  22. PlanB if kind offerfrom @Tomik doesn't work. Thank you for comments
  23. I see the Spez ones are R650...ouch
  24. Thanks. Are the Dischem (not their bottom of range) type any good?

    Inner Soles?

Hi I've battled a bit with pins n needles on my roadbike after an hour. My size 44 shoes are quite snug so I bought a pair of 45 from a hubber and they just feel very big. It seems sizes vary a bit by brand? I've considered trying inner soles to tighten things up - does anyone have experience using inner soles? Buying new shoes right now isn't an option.....
