  1. Rode my 6th monster last weekend and can honestly say that the route was probably the easiest since it's straight up Breedts. Everything was rideable with less loose gravel compared to previous years. The "old" route up to the top was much harder with a large chunk being on single track. Where I do agree is that the numbers have very noticeably dwindled. It used to be a big event with 1000+ riders across the different distance. Last weekend can't have been more than 250 participants. This also affects the after rider gees as there are just a lot less people swapping war stories
  2. Talking about these designs
  3. OTR in Krugersdorp does lekker flannel print shirts... note it is normal lycra but with flannel print Contact Stephen Fowler on info@otrdesigns.co.za
  4. I would think that the high density living found in most cities in Europe and US make bicycle courier way more feasible than in SA. This probably doe snot hold for JHB and CPT inner city but I do not think that would be the target market. Servicing the suburbs would mean you have to ride a lot of km per delivery (seem to remember that JHB is one of the biggest cities in the world by area?) Keen to hear what those who tried this as a venture found
  5. I assume that is if you do not buy a replacement frame from them?
  6. BMC???
  7. Give it a couple of months and the creaking and clunking will start..... the usual ratio is R5-10k for 6 -9 month free pedalling
  8. Quality shops include Sprocket and Jack in Parkhurst, Bicycle service Company in Fourways and Dagley's Bikes in Rand Park Ridge?
  9. Regte manne ride the woes trails ... if you know, you know
  10. Disagree with this comment. When buying a bike you should have a good idea what the rig is worth and what you are willing to pay. If BM meets those thresholds all should be happy to proceed regardless of what BM paid for the bike.
  11. Ineos boys might just have something to say about that
  12. In all cases we could pick up a top level bike (~2y old) at around 50% of the new price. Think that answers both questions?
  13. Have bought multiple 2nd hand bikes well north of R40k mark ... not sure if I'm an outlier in that sense but quite a few mates have done the same
  14. Well done Jasper with all these positive comments
  15. And another crap experience: My Edge 520 plus been awesome but the menu buttons on the side have perished. It has served me well for 5 plus years and everything has a lifespan. Called Garmin SA to see if above can be fixed and was told they do not do any hardware repairs but can replace with new 530 at 30% discount. I drive through to Rosebank (always a pleasure .... not) only to be told that in order to qualify for the deal, the technician needs to assess the unit and authorise the replacement ... and all this takes 30 days. Assistant confirms they do not repair the buttons and says they will replace. In other words, the outcome of the assessment is known yet they'll take 30 days to go through the process. Utter inefficiency. The products are great but the Yanks have to be told that the Saffers are killing their after service process
  16. Gabba is the bench mark for winter jackets..... pricey and not that easy to get in SA
  17. What hits me the most is how dof this is as far as cheating is concerned.....if there is a form of gps tracking used this will always be found
  18. I would not be so open about my oddities
  19. I was not trying to size the market for high end rigs. My understanding was that OP can get his hands on a special high end bike as an once off and was wondering whether he could sell that. To that question my answer is yes. if the question is can I build a business around high end bikes, the answer is a lot more involved.
  20. Yes there is ..... just have a look at the bikes being ridden by Saffers at Epic. ... average new price will not be far of R100k
