  1. It's very difficult to create a Road Racing culture when everyone is too terrified to actually ride their bicycles on the road. As parents we're hesitant to allow our kids to go training alone in the bigger Cities and as adults, our playground is reducing daily due to risks, be that vehicles, muggings and poor road conditions. IMHO, until these issues get addressed, we'll continue to see it decline. We might however become Indoor cycling Olympians 😉
  2. Nope, they're in the same team this year.
  3. If there's one thing that we Saffers do a whole lot better than the Yanks, it's to present a Live bike race. That coverage was shockingly poor considering the technology they have available. From them missing 3-10 crossing the line in the mens race to me eventually going to bed still not knowing who was top 10 in the ladies race. Do better !!!! Regarding Matt, sounds like he burnt some matches for Kegan to soften up the legs of the rest and paid the price on the line.
  4. Import duties are now automatically included in the price you see in Temu, So what you see is what you pay in total.
  5. Ah man that sucks, such a nice bike as well. Wishing you luck in them finding it 🙏
  6. The conditions up Swartberg Pass today look bleak... rain, cold and wind. Sh!t just got real 😄
  7. It's not a pleasant gravel route but it's still a gravel road. I've done it on my gravel bike and on my hardtail and it's certainly a lot more pleasant charging down there with a front fork. The 20km's thereafter to Oudtshoorn is a lot better on a gravel bike. Listening to some of the feedback on social media is rather entertaining. Some are calling it champagne gravel and others, like Vera, are in tears after a stage because of the sinkplaat. When you're covering 100km's offroad in South Africa, you're seldom going to find all the gravel roads to be perfect. Hell, they can barely even get that right with the tar roads in most of the Provinces 😄
  8. Say what... Lifetime guarantee on a bearing? What does that cover, the bearing just disintegrating?
  9. Tell you one thing, Lisa Bone is a serious emerging talent... Top 15 overall today... WOW 👏🙌
  10. Thx, DM me your contact details and I'll collect asap. Both my daughters are in Stellies so I'm there often. Actually picking the one up after school today around 5:30pm if you're available.
  11. Looks truly spectacular and certainly worth adding to the bucket list. Such a pity it comes at an awkward time of the year when the budget is already stretched after Easter and the higher fuel prices don't help either. Have a wonderful ride 🙌👍
  12. RIP Francois, it was a pleasure knowing you over the years, firstly as a competitor in the WP Vets league and later as a follow vintage steel bike enthusiast. You were tough as nails on your bike and you were a master of your craft when it came to building custom steel bikes. Widely regarded as one of, if not the best, steel frame builder in the country and one of the very few licensed to build with Reynolds 753 tubing. Besides Le Jeune and Du Toit, Francois also built bikes for Peter Allan Cycles. I'm fortunate enough to own quite a few of his beautiful crafted frames 🙏 Photo 1 is me racing my Peter Allan 531 at iL'Classico last year in Riebeek Kasteel. Photo 2 is me winning the Best Unrestored SA Built bike at Eroica in 2023 with my Du Toit 531. The bike was custom built for the Major of Calvinia and I bought it from him when he retired to Port Owen. Photo 3 is one of the riders bikes at Eroica 2024. Photo 4 is a friends 531 Le Jeune which I restored for him.
  13. RIP Francois, a true Legend amongst SA steel frame builders, you will be missed at our annual vintage get together 😢
  14. So unnecessary and sad, my heart goes out to all involved in this incident and especially to Landon who is currently fighting for his life in ICU 😢
  15. Yup, I have a Life policy with them that costs me more than my house payment but I cannot pause my fitness streak 😄 What a bunch of tosspots
  16. Bloody hell, what has been seen cannot be unseen 😲 That was a proper off, you were lucky to get away with only bruising 👍
  17. Ah, the never ending Discovery run around. I wanted to pause my 26 week fitness streak 2 weeks ago because I got sick and couldn't get to 900 points required for the week (I still got to 700). But no sir, it's never that simple. Despite the fact that this is indeed possible to do if you have an unbroken streak of 20 weeks, it's only possible on the Discovery Banking app for which you will need a Discovery CC. It's not available to the plebs with only the normal Discovery fitness App. So if you want that little perk, you need to take out a DCC 🤬 #julleMSP
  18. When I was shopping for a Gravel bike, Titan was kind enough to lend me a demo bike for a weekend. I can honestly say that it's really a great bike which you can buy with confidence. It does everything it's supposed to do and looks good as well. The only drawback might be the max tire size which "I think" is limited to around 47C but I've been "racing" gravel bikes in SA since 2020 and I've never had the need for anything wider. Despite what the Pro's say, a wider tire to me still feels like I'm riding through peanut butter. I find a 45C Maxxis Rambler perfect for most races down in the Cape. I eventually settled on a Giant Revolt but that was only because they gave me a 10K discount on a new bike at the time. Titan was first choice until the money spoke 🙃
  19. What a beautiful week of mountain bike racing, made even more special by having Saffers on the top step of the podium 👏 Say what you want about the Cape Epic but you cannot deny that this race is something special and we're privileged to have it happen in our back yard 🙌 Well done to all involved and especially to those riders who endured 8 days of grueling racing, you deserve that medal. Hang it up somewhere special and may it provide you with years of fond memories every time you look at it 🫡
  20. Tar or Gravel?
  21. If the Epic has taught us anything over the years is that it ain't over till it's over.
  22. Oh jinne mense, vandag gaan die poppe dans, dis 'n k@k tawwe skof die 🙃 I was sad to see Rosa abandon yesterday, I've been following their daily podcast on YouTube and they're really put in a massive amount of effort to be competitive, both their men & women's teams. Broken front teeth are extremely painful, all the nerves are exposed and even air on them is unbearable.
  23. Summer isn't exactly MTB season unless you're racing the Epic and most of our trails are used on a permit system rather than for weekend races.
  24. I can hear those forks begging for a service through my laptop speaker 😲
