  2. Check out Nooitgedacht Village on the outskirts of Skelmbosch. Close to all Stellenbosch and Bottelary Hills Conservancy trails and very close to the massive new Devonbosch Lifestyle Village currently being built which has its own 7km mtb pump track.

  6. I was reminded this past weekend again of the versatility of a gravel bike. I have an extra wheelset for my bike, the one is running 28C road tires with tubes & a road cassette and the other 45C tubeliss gravels tires and a more mtb oriented cassette. Took it out on Fri for 120km road road with mates and Sun evening just swapped out the wheelset and did a 110km gravel ride yesterday. The best of both worlds, I absolutely love my Revolt πŸ€™
  7. I was at Lake Garda last year for just over a week watching the Giro and riding some of those climbs. My word, what an absolutely stunning place to ride a bike. Garda and Como have bike rental shops on almost every corner of the town, it's a cycling mecca.

  17. I just mentioned to some friends that the thing most Epic first-timers fail to train for is the hike-a-bike sections and they absolutely kill your legs for the next days stage. You end up with massive muscle stiffness because you're only conditioned for cycling so the glutes, hammies & calves take a beating. It sounds inconsequential but believe me, you pay the price. It's literally only the Pros that can climb those massive mountains on the bike, for the rest it's a 30min to 1 hour hike, almost every day.

  19. Yes, 2 x Lead motorcyclists on scramblers that ride well ahead and check trail markings are correct, gates are open etc. etc. They would have given those hikers ample warning. Certainly not an ideal scenario though and heads will probably roll tonight 🀣
  20. I bitched and moaned about the price last year as well (see old thread), until I went and rode the event. It's pretty damn amazing and this year I'll pay the R700 without complaining πŸ˜„ Those Lourensford trails are incredible... oh, and don't forget the "free" Spur burger afterwards πŸ™ƒ πŸ€™

As someone who's been part of that media crew for a few years (okay I only rode the motorbike with the cameraman on the back πŸ˜„), I can promise you that they won't be happy with that feed today and will be doing everything in their power to improve it for tomorrow. BigShot media take what they do very seriously and no one is harder on them than themselves. That media caravan is not the place you want to be during a stage if you can't handle stress πŸ˜„

  23. As some who has both, IMHO the hardtail is a more versatile tool. I'm about to depart on a Cederberg trip on mine after using my Gravel bike on the Plett2CT trip previously.
