  10. I'll post some photo's tonight, the camera battery went flat during stage 3 so had to charge it first last night. well done to everyone who did it!! Those who finished and those who didn't, you gave it your best and that's what matters no matter who says what!!!! The conditions were hectic (the wind and the heat) and the race was hard, we could see it on everybody as we drove past the cyclists, from the back to the front. So well done!!! Chilli & Beee - Again, congrats, very well DESERVED win!!!! The competition was tough, but the strongest team on the day won, and you rode hard for it!!! It was nice meeting new hubbers, Flemish Lion and the Mrs! Next year I'll be battling it out with you!
  11. Hey Spidey Baie geluk met jou verjaarsdag, hoop jy het 'n wonderlike dag en 'n geseende jaar wat voorle!!!!
  12. Hi All Went and bought another lot of food yesterday, 50kg's dog food and 40kg's cat food. Thanks to BigBen, CarbonBoy and Zaskar for their donations!!!! And thanks to Lowracer for the goods he has put up for auction to raise money!! You guys rock!!! Shame when I dropped off the food yesterday, and the guys came to the car to fetch it, the lady that runs the place said to the one guys that works there .... and I quote :' See Daniel when you think things are hopeless and we don't know what we are going to do, things happen and they work out, they always work out, we just have to keep beleiving". Nice hey, shame they were really in need. I got some info on good prices for blankets aswell, they are running into winter and what they need bad now aside from food is blankets, so I was thinking. Aside from setting up the road ride were we can all ride to the shelter and do a hand over of food, which she is helping me with in order to get hold of the proper authorities to organise this. Was thinking of doing the mtb on Sunday the 20th??? Everyone that rides must donate R20, the blanket will cost R29 each but it'll add up and I can go buy them, they are proper army blankets and not the doggy ones that you can only wash ones and they pull appart, these are decent and they are double blankets so they can cut them smaller. So who is in???? We'll do it at Northern Farm!!
  13. Thanks so much guys, that's brilliant!!! Thank you so very much!!!! I'm going through tomorrow after noon, so if anyone want to send some more stuff with me please let me know!!!
  14. Hi All thanks for everybodie's help so far, Wolverine also just dropped off 4 bags at me, thanks soooooooooooo much!!!!! No I don't have any special supplier for food, unfortunately, I also go to the place in fontainebleu, because they give us a nice discount! Or the last time they were closed allready so Zaskar and I went to makro. It doesn't have to be branded food, pick 'n pay brand is cheaper, so you can buy more for the same money. I'd rather feed 20 doggies/cats with low brand or middle brand food than 5 with high brand food. It's just so they can eat. You can even donate like a big bag of mielie pap or rice, the volunteers will take it home and cook it for the animals and bring it in on a Saturday or Sunday and the animals go crazy for it. The one day we were there this one lady had a big bucket full of chicken feet, that she had bought and cooked and was giving it to the dogs as treats, they went bananas!! I had never thought of something like that, but they loved it!!! So really anything tin food, pellets you name it!!!!. Thanks again everyone for the help, and thanks IanJ again for taking this on as well and making the trips and helping with the deliveries
  15. Thanks so much!!!!
  16. Hi Wolverine I am in, running in between meetings, but I can arrange with reception in case you get here, when I'm in a meeting!!! Thanks!!!!!!!!!!!!
  17. Hi Hog that's a brilliant idea, I have been trying to sort out a charity ride for a while now, but life and work has just gotten in the way of it, I wanted to set the ride up so that we actually ride to the shelter and everyone can see what it's about and it might even encourage some adoptions, but as I said, things just haven't happened that way. The northern Farm idea is a great idea but that means we can't got to the shelter, unless we all drive there after the ride, which might be a good idea!! No there is only one FORA and that is by Westgate in Krugersdorp, so unfortunately no Sandton branch, but well done to you guys for supporting the spca, they do the same job, the only difference between them and FORA is that FORA has a no-put-down policy, some animals stay there for life!!
  18. Thanks Ian!!!! I'll probably be doing the same, but I can only go through over the weekend, so if anybody else wants to send food with me please let me know. I am happy to come and collect from you or meet somewhere to pic up!!! Thanks!!!
  19. Hi Y'all <?: prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" /> I saddens me to keep having to post things like this but I appeal to you again for some help for dog and cat food for FORA?? This load shedding business is having a big effect on the shelter, as their normal supplier can barely keep up with production for paying customers; hence there is no overflow food to help the shelter with. This has also compounded the number of surrender animals they have had due to poeple immigrating. They are on overflow at the shelter with the number of animals and obviously not enough adoptions happening to alleviate this problem. So really two appeals, firstly for food and secondly if you know anyone who is looking for a new lovable family member please encourage them to give the shelter a call, they have some amazing animals there, even pure breeds for those who don?t like the ?payment specials?. And please guys only loveable families need apply, some of these poor animals have seen enough hardship in their lives. If you can help with food or donations etc, please pm me and let me know. I am happy to take anyone to the shelter should they wish to go and see where their money is going. Thanks guys!!!
  20. Hey guys and gals Yes thank you to all the boys and girls in the VITO, we realise it was a long boring day in the car for you guys, but the support and the motivation was awesome, you guys kept us going!!!! To all the guys and girls who rode, you guys rock, thanks for all the support and help, it was a long and difficult day but we finihsed. PB, thanks for the Vito and hope those knees get better soon, respect man, I really thought you were going to get in the car at two points but you finished, well done!!! Now do you guys know why I was going to slow in the beginning, I knew what was comming, I had a funny feeling the 'vinnige frikkies' were lying about it being a flat race, I have yet to find a race that I can beleive them on. To everybody else (non hub bus riders) well done everyone!!! Will probably torture myself on it again next year!!
  21. Shame terrible news, hope he is ok!!!!
  22. Big Ben, Slowpoke and I had the same this morning, we had a very patient old gentleman in a bakkie, ride behind us and waited for us to turn before going past, we waved and thanked him and he smiled and waved back. I agree not all is bad, but the majority think we don't have a right to be there. In another case while riding single file a golf came past me so close I almost fell over. There were sections this morning where we were riding two abreast in the yellow lane and in places in the lane where there was no yellow line, but when a car came from behind we moved into single file. I don't see a problem with this. The problem I have is that from what I read in those letters, motorist think we have no right at all, that's nonsence! The problem is that most cyclists refuse to move over when a car comes from the back, and that's when tempers start going and fingers start flying.
  23. I agree with Dick to an extent, motorist have no knowledge that we as cyclist are in fact by law entitled to cycle in the lane itself. But they think that if there is no 'cycling-specific' lane for us, we have no right to be on that road. Which is crap!!! I agree obey the rules of the road same as evey other motorist or taxi etc, but the law and the rule is that we have a right to be on that road as well and not in the yellow lane as it is just as illegal for us to ride there as it is for any vehicle. Riding single file is out of courtesy, the law doesn't say you must it says where possible do so. But if there is a 3 lane road, why can't you ride 2 abreast, there is two lanes next to you to get passed, but cars still pass so close, even in single file that rider's get cliped by a mirror. Motorists need to be educated that we have just as much right on the road as them, that will be the first start. I've said it before and I'll say it again, just speaking to non-cyclists in my office they have had absolutely no idea that the law stipulates that a bicycle is a legalised vehicle on the road and have rights to be in the normal lanes. Since this has been brought to their attention many of them have come back to me saying 'oh guess what I drove behind these cyclists this morning and they were all over the road, I hooted like you told me (two short beeps) and they moved over and even waved at me", Motorists need to be educated!!!!!! If we get a little bit more respect, then maybe we'll also start giving it back, it's a two way street (pardon the pun), not just the fault of the cyclists.
  24. Baie geluk Cherise!!!!! Cherry jy was nie dalk in Clarens hierdie naweek nie?
