  1. muxman, maybe you can suggest that the keys that ride there regularly become 'cycling park marshalls' - as such. And that if the marshall's see cyclists breaking the rules you can hand out penalties or kick them out etc. they have that at northern farm, some regulars are marshals and if they see you riding without a helmet or such they can escort you off the premises etc. Just an idea.
  2. I have the DMT Magnesium, they are great, my toes don't go numb anymore and my feet don't get sore. But they are pricey though. m 2c

  4. I've driven support for 2 years now on this race and if they leave before the bunches start then they will stop on the road to wait for their guys and then just race ahead and leap-frog the riders to stop ahead again, same goes if they leave behind the bunches they leap-frog the riders until they get to their riders and then do the same as menitoned above. In my personal opinion you should lay down rules for the drivers in terms of how to pass the cyclists and how to behave, and then let them leave when they want, because it's probably safer for them to drive just behind their riders rather then leap-frog other groups anyway at speed to get to their riders. I don't think it's something that you'll be able to control properly, and I really think that support is needed on this race as it is so long, last year we stoped to take photo's of riders and ended up helping to fix punctures and pump up tyres of general riders on the side of the road, who just stoped and said can you help us. Had we not been there with a pump and some spare tubes, their races would have been over. It's a no win situation on this one I'm afraid. Question is why is this an issue? Has anyone complained or have any of the riders been injured because of a suporters car??
  5. Dagwood - I find that when i am unfit this happens to me as well, because I put alot of my weight on my upper body, esp when I start getting tired. But when my fitnes starts improving it goes away. My set up is 100% and I have the comfortable gloves and bar tape and all the rest, for me personally it just simply depends on my fitness level. my 2c

  7. Best wishes of recovery to Estelle!!!! I often feel like I am going to get sucked in under a truck whilst riding when they come past you. It seriously scary and sometimes you are already as far left as you can go. It a scary feeling and hearing that it has happened to someone makes it even worse now.

  10. ok why does the browse button on the picture loading thingy not work??? it's just not even there, and that's the only way i know how to load pics.
  11. yeah in fact we did it loong before the Capies did it, in fact they were moaning why the Gautengers do it and they don't, then they started. Only difference is we also normally add a good cause to the ride. At every hub ride I have collected dog food and money for food for FORA. In fact i'll post the pics of all the food i collected and managed to buy with the money from the last ride.
  12. I thought it's being turned into a single speed????

  15. I try to avoid it!!
  16. I also think people are to sensitve on this topic, I don't think that roadies or mtb'ers are going out of their way not to greet you. If someone passes me on the same side of the road or I pass them yes I greet and/or they greet, doesn't matter what kind of bike they are on, because it's easy I don't have to move my hands or scream as they can hear me ok, but if someone is on the opposite side of the road it is sometimes unsafe to take your hands off the bars, so you see them but you can't greet, as you are about to swerve for a pot-hole or something. I try to still nod my head but they might not see it and think I'm being rude and not greeting, or they are doing that to me and I think they are not greeting, so what I'd rather have them not greet me and not crash. I honestly think poeple make this big thing of this mtb vs road thing, ag get over it, we don't hate each other because of the bike you ride, crap man, we are all cyclists.
  17. how about each person donates a toy and a bag/tin of dog/cat food. (stocks at FORA are always low at the shelter this time of the year)? And I agree with Wolvie, Jan is probably best as dates are done for December with most folks going away. And I think most would want to participate, then we can co-ordinate with the guys in the cape and do one on the same day, and see who can collect the most stuff, JHB or CPT? Find a shelter there guys to support and do the same as in JHB, oh and maybe the few guys and gals in KZN as well!!!
  18. You should've checked your statements and brought it to the banks attention right away, it's your money after all and you can't expect the bank to manage your personal affiars. I'm not saying they are right but the onus lies on you first. Provide them with the proof of cancellation in person and see what happens else take it to the ombudsman, but seeing as nothing was done for 18 months I don't know how strong your case is going to be. I work for a bank and am in insurance and yes I agree some places rip you off, that is why you should shop around first before taking out any products, don't blame the bank or insurance company if you were to lazy to do your homework, they can not force you to take a product, you have to accept it. In the case of the house insurance that someone mentioned, if you find another product and rather want that then you can take it but all you need to do then is provide your bank with proof of said insurance and proof that this policy has been seeded to the bank, so that they can see their risk is covered. Again, do your homework on the process and shop around. Ofcoarse the banks and insurance companies are going to punt their own products, it's a business after all, that does not make it wrong. We get thousands of letters daily thanking us for the insurance clients take and how it has 'saved' them in times of crises, so remember that not all service is bad because you had one bad experience, or that some people benefit from insurance that banks offer. Some people never claim on insurance, some do, but I'd rather pay that premium (the cheapest one I have reaserched) than have something happen to me and I can not cope financially or leave my family behind in debt. Is all about risk and covering your risk, the banks and yours as with any business. Concider these things before you go and flame institutions.
  19. I kept playing leap-frog with these two, we were joking about it. He cramped badly on all the hills the last 20km's. I was cramping constantly but couldnt get off otherwise I wouldn't get back on. So they would stop and walk up the hill, I would slog up slowly cramping away, then on the downhill they would come flying past me and so it went till the finish. well Done to them I know how it feels. I started cramping as I turned into Homestead rd and it just got worse as I went along. I am so stiff this morning it feels like I did 4 hours of weight training in the gym. Then I get to work and we don't have power so I had to walk up 3 flights of stairs, ouch
