  1. I read yesterday there was an attempted mugging on / near the trails going towards Bottelary Road from the red.
  2. Ok that's awesome because then I can actually justify getting something "different" and keep my Stumpy, but make it a bit more long ride friendly with the Codeine being the aggro shredder. What will the stats be on the 650B? Same angles and travel?
  3. This is leading the "next bike" race for me. R15.5k for a frameset. Nifty.
  4. That FD will however not survive a winter.
  5. Read the Pinkbike blurb on the Orbea. Looks like a pretty sick bike if you want something to cover everything from trail to some Alpine bike parks. Also well priced with the right spec attitude imo.
  6. It seems all a bit moot though. The 2016 range Genius seems to run beefier Fox forks and 1x11 deeper into the range. Guess the market has forced their hand.
  7. Just had a look at their website an I must say I am baffeld how even the top-spec Genius is still stocked with a 2x10 drivetrain (XTR, but still, what is this 2013?) and a 32mm Fox (Kashima who cares). It's only the Tuned Genius that runs 1x11 but still a string of spaghetti up front. If you're going to charge R60k and up for a bike then you need to run 1x11 and a Pike/Fox 34. Otherwise you're basically telling your customer to spend that cash plus still upgrade it. I can't help feel that this is because of the TwinLock system.
  8. Also, what price range are we talking here?
  9. Few questions: 1. I assume you rode it in the "Low" setting for the review? Did you still feel at 67.9' that is was too steep? 2. Will swopping out forks compromise the twinlock system or could you still use it on any other RL fork? Otherwise, is it removable?
  10. Bro, these shoes are so enduro, I don't even have to scan my timing chip. Seriously though, I need something I can hike-a-bike in and I hate FiveTens (yes I said it) and my AM45's weigh a ton. http://www.bikeradar.com/mtb/gear/category/clothing/shoes/product/review-giro-terraduro-48935/ http://www.giro.com/us_en/statement-from-giro-regarding-terraduro-shoe-delamination Pinkbike's Take: http://es.pinkbike.org/245/sprt/i/bigquotes.png Five Ten skate-style shoes have become the Harley-Davidson 'Hitler helmet' of the high-volume mountain bike crowd, and while there are some good reasons to ride with flexible, flat-soled, heavy hunks of rubberized cloth strapped to your feet (flat pedals, for instance, are good reasons), much of the popularity of flat-soled DH type shoes is just bro-fashion. The Giro Terraduro offers clipped in riders a more efficiently shaped shoe for pedaling, without sacrificing the essential foot-dabbing and drifting capability of a skate-style shoe. It looks pretty good, it is scented to repel spandex and it is easy enough to walk on that pushing uphill to session descents is an experience comparable to bro-fashion footwear. The Terraduro can be used with flat pedals in a pinch too, as its Vibram sole is very grippy material, molded flat over a large enough area to ensure that you contact the pedal squarely - most of the time. All this means is that you can still sprint out of corner should you miss the engagement after dropping a foot. On the subject of comfort, it took a couple of rides for the shoe to conform the feet, after which, the Terraduros became daily drivers. There is more room in the toe-box than a traditional racing shoe - which is a must for serious dirt work, and the shoe is just flexible enough to feel like the feet are comfortably planted on the pedals when jumping. Having a good deal of experience riding roadie-boy man pumps, as well as skate-style DH slippers, I would give Giro two thumbs up for making a true performance cycling shoe that handily bridges the chasm between the two. If you ride AM/trail or (dare I say the word?) race ENDURO events, and you ride clipped in, you will appreciate Giro's take on the ultimate trail shoe. - RC
  11. Unless it's a #braai...
  12. Ordered me a pair of these: http://urbanvelo.org/wordpress/wp-content/uploads/2014/04/giro_terraduro-2.jpg
  13. Careful now...*shines XT reservoirs*
  14. Yip. Only about R6k further...
  15. Just to be clear, you can run this without getting the crank and chainring? I have a 1x10 setup with NW and Sram 10speed crank, so only looking to replace RD, Casette and shifter. Also, what chains would one use? Roadie 11 speeds?
  16. That's a lot of lycra! Lol, I jest. Cool to see organisers get all comers to attend.
  17. What does the Pike go for now then??? I thought it was around R13k?
  18. Sandton isn't exactly Stumpy territory...
  19. So basically, Lyrik is now a heavier, bigger, stiffer Pike and the Yari is a budget alternative to the Pike without having to go for the skinnier Revelation? I reckon once XT 11 speed comes out and you have the Yari you can do a nice R40k build of a Pascoe which will still hold its own with the current top spec XX1 Pike builds. What's not to like?!
  20. Alternative transport? Like trains? Oh wait...
  21. Well, parking is genuinely a problem in the CBD, so I think it's a little more nuanced than that. Still, rules are rules. Enforce them or don't have them.
  22. Well I think it's safe to say the resentment levels towards cyclists has just reached peak levels.
  23. No skin off my back. But I will be judging them. I'm just a jerk like that.
