  1. I think sometimes we over estimate race organisers. They mostly want to cover the costs of the race, no matter the weather. Me included. I saw all the rain, drove all the way to Bonnievale, took only my mtb. As I am mtb rider, however realised very quickly when I arrived Friday night in Bonnievale, that it was going to be a mudfest. Woke up Saturday morning in Bonnievale, stil raining. Entered the road race on my mountain bike, because I knew the mtb would be a disaster. As it was, I saw my mates after the race and they were soaked in mud, bikes had mechanicals etc. This might make me a less hardcore rider, but myself and my bike are fine. My friends however need repairs on their bikes after all the mud. However, not marking a route correctly is shocking. No matter the weather.
  2. I had every intention of doing the mtb. Saw all the rain and realised thats a *** idea. Did the 35 km road race, on my mtb with knobblies. Eventually came 4th. My bike was clean. All the mtb boys were covered in mud. I had such fun. Road race was awsome. Loved it.
  3. Doesnt seem like it. I was also wondering. I have had too many road races where I make a effort ,and when get to the event there is 30 or 40 guys. I am injured from a fall last weekend, so I can not do the mtb, wrists are shot. So was hoping to do the road race, but looks like I will skip. No interest it seems.
  4. Still hoping Webber can win a last one before he retires. 3 Races left, Abu Dhabi, USA and Brazil. Highly unlikely, Seb wil now be fearless as he has already wrapped up the title and Red Bull have wrapped up the constructors. Unfortunately my favourite, Alonso, had a shocker.
  5. I never miss a race. Huge fan, but the thrill of the world title race is part of the sport. Vettel just ran away with it this year. One thing I dont understand is that one person can have such terrible luck, poor old Mark Webber. Feel so sorry for the guy. Seems like every weekend something goes wrong with his car, and the other one performs perfectly.
  6. That is the problem. We always made a huge effort on F1 weekends, We would get together at someones house and make theme food for the weekend. Italy was always my favourite, pasta and pizza and red wine, followed by the Silverstone race in the UK, bangers and mash and plenty BEER. Lately though no one is interested as the result is a given. Sad, as I absolutely love the sport, however if you are not a Seb and Redbull fan it becomes very boooooring indeed. Like watching the All Black play Italy, you know who will win. Today proved the Redbull has a vastly superior car, however Vettel is driving the wheels off it, he is very talented aswell, not a fan, but credit to the champion.
  7. Did the Durbanville Mtb yesterday. Hit a rock hidden in the grass, had a big fall. Fuel to race from Paarl 100 bucks, race entry 100 bucks, gloves destroyed from fall R450, saddle broken, R800, bibs torn R1000 bucks. Body wil hopefully heal on its own. Extreme case, but it can get expensive really quick. Still love every minute of it. Will work overtime to support my addiction.
  8. Giant are most guilty. Never ever give any idea of weight. Momsen very good.
  9. The new s -works Roubaix has disc brakes. My absolute dream road bike. Sexy machine.
  10. oh ja, and number one on my list of most irritating. OPRAH.
  11. How tough is the 50km MTB race. Cant seem to find any route profiles or info. Wil it be more or less the same as last weekends STBB Keep abreast race, or a bit tougher.
  12. Wise words. I agree 100 percent. Not a looker.
  13. Give them some time dude. Was done manually. so at least you know it wont be a complete f-up like racetec.
  14. Best organised race I have ever done. Water tables were more like eat all you can eat buffets, biltong, dry wors, everything the heart desires. Also the water points actually had ice ice cold water, not water that has been standing in the sun for 2 hours. Well done guys, everyone I spoke to had a absolutely blast. The draught beer and food stalls after the race was just a bonus. Thanks
  15. I am a mountain biker at heart. But I absolutely love Die Burger race. Just such a cool vibe, and not as many people to trip over like the Argus.
  16. Giant are struggling. Other competitors are eating into their market share massively. They use to dominate the market. They are clutching at straws. The key word is MIGHT.
  17. I think this might be overlooked yes. I agree.
  18. I dont want to step on your toes. But some people are very sensitive if you dare say a 29er is better in any way.
  19. I love all these guys saying 29ers will be dead soon, because it was marketing hype. That means if Tata create the most hype and best marketing campaign we will all be driving Tatas soon. No one will consider the quality and reliability of a Toyota, the quality and craftmanship of a Audi. You get my point. God help us all. This is just so old, please stop with these vs threads. I am gonna go ride a spinning cycle in the gym, cause I dont know which size the wheel is, and I dont fricken care.
  20. That is a shocker.
  21. That is one good looking bike.
  22. They do need some fine tuning. To be honest. Getting there.
  23. Exactly. Well said.
  24. Downhill bikes are now mostly 650b. One guy at world champs had a 29er downhill bike. Downhill guys all agree they are now faster than they use to be. Meaning the bigger wheel is faster for them at least. I started on a 26er, hated it, hardly ever rode. Now I have a 29er and I love it. I am not going to say 26ers are *** or 650b is great or whatever. But I do think some people on the hub refuse to move on with the times and are unwilling to try or experiment with new things. I am heavy, I am a big boy with a rugby sports background, but I am not tall, 1.75 metres. I went over the bars on my 26er plenty, and before anyone points out my skills are ***, let me state that I am not the most technical rider. On my 29er I now enjoy cycling. And for that I love my 29 ers.
  25. Its because all the rain and storms have stopped here in Cape Town, and people are actually cycling again. Getting rid of frustrations. Just a good month so far. Life feels good at the moment. Blessed
