  1. Last year after the K2C we did an easy ride to Brackenfell. Well sort of easy. the plan was for a longer route than the eventual route (Km and days), but we had time constrainrs, so we cheated. but we did in in 3 days and slow as I was sleg, good and propper, 100+kg and been off the bike with 4 weeks training. You just need to pace yourself!! We were unsupported so we took everything along with us. We stayed in Back Packers, super cheap and cheerfull. Accommodation for the trip was about 400 ZAR each and we booked at lunch time when we knew where we would be stopping. This was: Day 1 - Knysna to Karlitzdorp via 7 passes and the old Outeniqua pass. Breakfast in George, lunch id Oudshoorn and dinner in karlitzdorp Eish 200km+ Day 2 - Karlitzdorp to Montague via R 62. This is easy as there is a huge gravel shoulder all the way except for Huis River Pass and the block wind, grrr. Breakfast in Ladysmith, lunch in Barrydale and dinner in Montague. This we will change this year and take in Rooiberg and a few other..... Day 3 - Montague to Brackenfell via Veliersdorp and Franschoek. Brakfast in VD, and home. This year we are planning a 4 day trip will allow for a nice 800ish km trip.
  2. Problem is the apartheid government built the dams too big. If they were smaller, they would be fuller.... This is a true story from national government minister. Also you can only build dams where there are catchment areas to feed the dam. Just look at the dam they buit in Namibia outside Kleinwindhoek. It is still dry. So all one can do is manage what you have and if no water comes out of the sky, well then.......
  3. Like the smiley Face!
  4. Here is the Munga machine to have. https://cdn.bikehub.co.za/uploads/monthly_05_2017/ccs-62657-0-05933000-1494847424.jpg
  5. Then I need to fight with Discovery on that. They no longer allocate points for steps to me. Sent from my SM-G930F using Tapatalk
  6. Read the rules, steps mean nothing, as does the 60 to 70% of HR zone *Earn 50 Vitality points for tracking between 5 000 and 9 999 steps in a day or 100 points for a 30+ minute workout where you are able to maintain 60 – 69% of your maximum age-related heart rate. These activities recognise that important first step for many of our members who are just starting out. For this reason, these points will contribute to your weekly Vitality Active Rewards goal, but will be subject to a cap of 1 000 points per year towards your Vitality Status.
  7. If you cant tell the difference then go for the fakelys from a proper fakely distributor, that way you know their status.
  8. Go 29'r for this ride.
  9. Stupid question, but why the kink in the top tube? If they kept it straight it could allow for another bottle cage. I know they may be thinking of standover height but that is on no consequence if the seat is up in the air.
  10. Damn, it would be nice if I could ever get to having a car paid off. Dong too many km's for that to ever happen. Edit for grammar nazi
  11. Has to be a pyramid because of the shadow on the edge.
  12. Oi, don't confuse everyone now please ;-) Guys are just trying to understand Watts and HR now you throw in HRR. Eish! So if my math is correct with a resting HR of 50 and a max HR of 180 I would have the following: 90% of HR = 162bpm 90% of HRR = 167bpm Is this correct?
  13. Ok I come to ask an updating question. Initially I thought my Garmin was not syncing with Disco. But now I see that it is, well at least it indicates so on the app. But my activities are only reflecting randomly. As I said before everything was good till end of January since then only two activities are reflecting. What could the issue be?
  14. Howzit guys, I am looking to find people to join up to make a slow bus. 18 to 20 kph moving speed average and with strict water point and feed zone time management we can easily do 22 to 24 hrs total. We will start off slow and keep it that way hopefully upping the pace from the last feed zone. I am way unfit but if I keep to the plan it is doable. Any takers?
  15. My Activities (as few as they have been) are still not updating. This just stopped towards the end of January. Disco says I have to now send them screenshots of the Garmin activities for them to manually update my points. But damn why are they STILL not updating? I have delinked, relinked. Uninstalled Garmin connect and reinstalled etc. Any ideas on what the issue could be?
  16. Maybe I can get a refund based on failing a medical.
  17. Is it not just the medical questionnaire that needs to be filled out. I do not see any reference to a medical being needed. Please assist as it seems a bit odd to have to do a medical for a walk in the park like this. You can go and do an Audax 200, 300, 400, 600, 1000, or even 1,200 without one.
  18. What is this medical you speak of? Sent from my SM-G930F using Tapatalk
  19. So I have done 1hr and 12 minutes since 26th Feb none of it cycling. Can I still get fit for this bloody 36One or should I get rid of my entry?
  20. and last year's Munga was won on? A Rockey MTB with gravel grinder bars. So they do work.
  21. I drive too many km in a month (8 - 15 k per month)at too high a speed (not justifying anything just saying with that mileage and still having to get a full days work done each day things happen) to get cover from any company that will put a device in my car. Done about 4 million km with 7 claims, to me those are good odds. Still pay a premium with Santam, but for their service and my risk profile they cant be beat. Discovery would be on the line to me all day every day thinking I have been hijacked.
  22. March - April are supposedly the best times wind wise in the Cape, but you pay your money and take your chances. Well for us locals it is normally, by May - June the wind is the from the NW and as *** if not worse together with driving rain.
  23. Can someone explain these limits to me? How to earn Vitality Fitness points * Earn 50 Vitality points for tracking between 5 000 and 9 999 steps in a day or 100 points for a 30+ minute workout where you are able to maintain 60 – 69% of your maximum age-related heart rate. How to earn Vitality Fitness points for endurance and high performance athletes *These points contribute to weekly Vitality Active Rewards goals but are capped at 1 000 points per year towards Vitality Status. How to earn points for timed and verified race events (includes endurance and high performance athletes) Claim your points by logging into www.discovery.co.za>Vitality>Gym and fitness with proof of race completion with race certificate or other supporting documentation. 300 - 5-9km walking/running event 0,5-1km swimming event 600 - 25-49km cycling event 10-20km walking/running event 1,1-3km swimming event 1 500 - 50-99km cycling event 21-41km walking/running event 3,1-5,9km swimming event 3 000 - 100-179km cycling event 42km+ walking/running event 6km+ swimming event 180km+ cycling event We also recognise our duathletes and triathletes with the full set of points per event discipline for example, earn 9 000 points for a full Ironman. *Adults can earn up to a maximum of 30 000 fitness points a year. *Dependants between the ages of 12 and 18 years can earn up to a maximum of 20 000 fitness points per year. Seems like you can only get 1000 fitness points for a year of activity, the rest you have to get from events - or am i missing something?
  24. Strava is no longer a valid link, needs to be directly with Garmin or one of the approved devices.
  25. And Rugged it is, but a proper MTB event it is also!
