  1. Not really, the staff are the same and the item is just another item, your passion for the item is of no consequence (try telling that to the insurance whew trying to get a higher pay-out) Why should there be a higher level of scrutiny for a bicycle (that is perceived to be worth 1o to 15k tops) than a set of tools worth the same perceived value? Just because you are passionate and buy into the hype and pay over market value does not mean that it has a perceived value to joe public.
  2. Research and understand the terms of your contract. I am sure others have said the same. You can insure you bike for whatever value, it is normally a specified item, so they will pay out what you have insured for. I may be wring but in all my cases (SANAM the guys that pay,...... and charge) They have paid out the insured value in ZAR; Period. PS I also use a broker.
  3. I Don't know about this are we not breeding a group of Pansies. Was there really any physical harm (I understand the maybe. could have scenarios) Regarding cyber bullying and emotional damage. Really. Unless you are a millennial with a thin skin what harm can anything someone says do you? This is off topic though: But really if you feel someone is threatening you online, deal with it, ignore it or take yourself out of that circle. Same as saying you cant call someone of colour a monkey. So in stead I can muster up all the expletives I can think of for that person and I will be ok. Crimean injuria case coming but that is noting compared to what the racial slur will bring to bear down on me. I tell you society has become a bunch of pansies keyboard worriers. The sad thing is that nothing a keyboard warrior can do will upset me, unless they have exposed me of something to be worried about, and then I should. Good god we have become wimps. (not detracting from the person the OP posted about's right to make a case. But damn was it not that person's right to post. Anyway back to my cave as I seem to be considered a Neanderthal.
  4. On a similar note: I have been cycling on a road that did not have a shoulder and was passed by too closely by a few rugby supporters in a double cab. I have them the hand (not the finger) and they turned around and we had a chat. Net result is that I was tazed on my arm and they rode away laughing. That I also chalked up to experience. Yeas It would have been in my rights to lay a charge (we had the reg no) But damn it is what it is. Deal with it. I learnt that I need to check my routes (this is not one of those cases) and then just deal with it. I really do not have time to deal with the legal system, nor the ability to afford time off work to deal with a petty thing like this. Then again I do come from an older era. If I really wanted to do something about it they would have not see me in a blind ally or the vehicle would be keyed etc. I am older now so we move one. Millennials I tell you.
  5. Just being devils advocate here, but are we not becoming a pansy, litigious society. Dam I would have just chalked that up to whatever. I really thing we need to grow a thicker skin, next we are going to complain about cyber bullying and name calling. We really have reached the bottom.
  6. Damn, you must weigh nothing. Normally if you get a flat you will be on the rim immediately and you will feel a significant loss of control and a very hard ride. So I suspect it was a slow puncture and it is now just very soft. On a road bike my 100+kg means I can probably limp home on about 2bar on a road bike and and about 0.3 Bar on an MTB. Bottom line is if you got home OK just fix it and carry on. No harm no foul. You WILL know if you have a proper flat as you cannot ride it any further.
  7. There was definitely some filing going on there. You can see from the picture that the wheel is not in the centre of the fork. So someone has done a MacGyver there. I suspect the endcap/s.
  8. Because they are brand sluts. The companies try and make the brand desirable the people buy the kit because it is desirable and expensive and now your mates can see that you spend a boatload om ZARS on kit. Simple Marketing 101 - stroke the brand conscious egos and you keep making money. Same can be said for why people buy Polo (as an example) vs Mr Price. If there was no banding how would you be able to show off to your mates that you are with it and have burnt cash on it.
  9. Why do you want a new saddle? If you have one that works and it is broken or sagging just replace it with the same. Never change just for the sake of change. I have spent huge ZARS in saddles only to go back to my trusty Arione. No that is what I ride and have ridden for the last 10 years. Edit: If I have been off the bike for a month or 2 it takes a week to break my ass back in but then it is good for 400km rides.
  10. Why? it is a MTB and where I ride even the film does not protect it much. Also remember the weight!!
  11. You get what you pay for. How do you expect something for nothing? That said. I use the free version and Elevate (the old Stravastix) as well as Intervals.ICU what more do you want for logging training and training. Both give me my training calendar, fitness and freshness etc. Unless you are a yuppie wanting to spend screen time on nothing. Edit: Golden Cheetah is free and gives way much info
  12. Sorry dude, when last did you pick up the phone and call them? Not defending them, but **** happens and if you don't call it will stay in the ether. I have never used them befor, just commenting on what happens in the real world.
  13. He was not calling the R 1,700.00 a rip off, he was quoted and agreed to that. Read the post. His issue is with the extras that were added and the impression that, according to their marketing material, that some things should have been included.
  14. Not as far as I know. It is their baby. Most of our site require a safety file etc. It is very onerous and these days we charge about R 2,5 and R 7K just for the safety file, depending on what is needed to be in it. This notwithstanding the contractor is responsible for for his staff so if anything goes pear-shaped it is on his onus. Well that is what I read into it. This is a huge problem for guys like us that are compliant (safety file notwithstanding) as there are many other compliance regulations that cost and now you have to compete with the bakkie brigade that have none of these expenses. Many times loosing out on work. Well so be it. Sometimes the cost of the safety file is more than the total cost of the job.
  15. Why not rather look ay a Chinese frame (Most are anyway, look how well Willie does with Adrenaline) You can land a good frame with a shock for 10 to 12K ZAR build everything over and you are done. I want to do this but currently don't have the 12K
  16. Why would you want to increase the Q factor? Unless you have seriously duck feet a few mm should be fine. I have a Mommsen hardtail and the chain stays are also way too wide. This results in scuffed shoes as well as all the paint off the chain stays already. However I can't accommodate the wider Q factor even if I wanted to as it brings with it other issues, especially knee pain. So before going 10mm per side consider the possible consequences. They are not pleasant.
  17. In the same boat dude. It is ***, at least the liquidators can drool over my bikes (or not) Strongs during this difficult times. I have been employing between 5 and 13 staff for 13 years, now no more.
  18. Do you think it will take place? W2W cancelled as they feel that can't adhere to the numbers quota. It is all good and well having small start groups, but what about the finish and the village?
  19. Nothing to expand on. If you break a spoke and you need to have it replaced and the wheel trued. 1. take your spoke spanner (you must have one, even if it is the *** one on your multi-tool) and undo all the spokes one or two turns. Then take it in for replacement etc. Why do you ask? Because, most (not the respected wheel-builders) will just put in a new spoke and true the wheel. And then ......... If you slacken all the spokes they have to true and dish the wheel correctly. That is after all what you are paying for.
  20. But it is no more. It is 3 TT's with way many free miles. Currently I think is is only 170km, with free miles built in. It is a funride walk in the park. But then we need to be uber expensive bike Byers
  21. about 110 to 120 bike and me. MTB offroad 1.5 Bar onroad 2 Bar (it is faster)
  22. Have a look here: https://www.bbc.com/news/uk-scotland-44494577 http://www.cyclingutah.com/racing/track-racing/uk-rider-chris-opie-breaks-133-year-old-penny-farthing-hour-record/
