  1. As far as I know it is Paraffin oil, also known as liquid paraffin. You can get it at the pharmacy
  2. My 2c, dont get a saddle with lots of padding, your sit bones compress the padding and the padding between your sit bones pushes where you dont want it to. Get your bum used to a thin padded saddle
  3. "I do like the option of handing the guy the phone as a distraction so you can spray in too" Toss the phone, it makes for a good distraction and gives you a second to pepper spray
  4. Hi Silverboy Did you get a licence plate? If so pm me, it can be traced
  5. You cant beat a classic steel frame for comfort
  6. Inhaled and swallowed and number of flying insects, figured its better than tasting them
  7. That is my problem, yesterday was Milnerton - Simonstown - Llandadno - V&A - Milnerton
  8. Having been sworn at by a cyclist for just shaking my head because he was riding on the road instead of the cycle lane my view is that if you want to ride on roads that are dangerous by all means go for it. If you get killed I will not feel sorry for you. I will feel sorry for your family and the driver of the car who will be traumatised by the experience
  9. Post them on www.roadhogs.co.za You can even post a picture if you like
  10. My personal view is that a system should be developed that is not for the masses but rather bait bikes. Im sure we all would like to know what the hell happens to high end bikes that get stolen. The majority just seem to disappear forever. My feeling is that there are organised crime syndicates who get the bikes over the border in bulk. It may be possible to get a tracking company and insurance company involved who will benefit from any publicity if there are some successes
  11. I think you have misunderstood me. This is what should happen, and there should be some warning for any obstacle in the road including cyclists in the middle of the road. If a group of cyclists want to be pro and ride in a bunch then please get the pro car with signage following behind
  12. So what many are saying is that although the speed limit on Franschoek pass is 100km/h, everyone driving on the pass should expect cyclists 2 abreast at 15km/h. So to be reasonably safe one should only drive at about 60km/h. 1. As cyclists we may be aware that there may be cyclists on the road, other drivers will not, ever. 2. Can cyclist rightly expect drivers to drive well below the speed limit just in case there may be cyclists in the road around the corner. The argument that you should expect a broken down vehicle around a blind bend does not hold water. In that case the driver or someone will flag motorists or they will put a warning triangle in the road. Some cyclists seem to be very entitled. By all means cycle in the middle of the road, just give your wife and kids a good hug before you leave on your ride. When a vehicle hits a cyclist it is always the cyclist that comes off second best.
  13. The bikehub seems to have a large number of youngsters that dont know how easy it is to die an "accidental" death
  14. I have been cycling for decades and have developed a healthy respect for staying in one piece. Yes I have been hit by cars more than once. If cyclists choose to cycle side by side on a narrow twisty road with blind corners and someone driving AT THE SPEED LIMIT comes round a blind corner and kills one of those cyclists. Then I have no sympathy for the cyclist, only his family who will miss him. Here lies the body of William Jay, Who died maintaining his right of way – He was right, dead right, as he sped along, But he’s just as dead as if he were wrong.
  15. Its been awhile since I got down to doing some carpentry but this year my wife wanted a new dining room table as an anniversary gift
  16. When it comes to comfort tire pressure is key. Ive seen many people having a hard ride because of their hard tires. Go tubeless and run your tires less than 2 bar Depending on your weight you can run the back between 1.6-1.9bar
  17. The same happened to me and in the end insurance did not pay out even though they had chipped the edge of the canopy door in forcing it open
  18. There is only one cycle lane in Cape Town that actually goes anywhere the Melkbos - Cape Town. The rest are bits and pieces all over the place that dont connect to each other
  19. If the registration is on the system as stolen it will flag security / police. If it is fake it can still be tracked until the plates are changed
  20. LPR cameras are a good idea. There are plenty here in Cape Town and security companies can track vehicles easily. A friend of mine is involved with the software, the first time he showed me it blew my socks off. All he did was input my registration and he was able to show me photos of me driving my car practically everywhere. You just need one video shot of the perps vehicle and you can track its movements.
  21. This may have been asked already,. Are there any cameras that cover the road within 10km of the hijacking?
  22. Hopefully the reenklere are breathable otherwise you will be wetter than without it
  23. Not a pleasant experience, hope you can claim from insurance. Did the white tazz have a red stripe down the side?
