  1. Just keep in mind that road shifters dont work with mtb derailleur as they have different cable indexing.
  2. Anyone know more info? CAPE TOWNWelcome to Durbanville... So early this morning my partner went cycling on one of his usual training routes... as he headed down Langeberg Road towards Pinehurst, just before the new development which is next to Morningstar... 3 x guys distracted and attacked him! He was hit off his bicycle against the head with a bag that felt like it had a brick in it... and then stabbed in the neck with a knife... TheSAPS - Durbanvilleas per usual (sorry to say) was of NO help at all, refusing to help and take him to try and find the culprits... Please be careful out there...
  3. It looks like the same bunch that was involved last time
  4. Wow do they have a blind mechanic
  5. Poor people are poor because they buy Absolute Black
  6. How is it that this incident hardly makes the news? Reams of reports of a kite surfer arrested on the beach but hardly anything about this
  7. Friend of mine had his car broken into at Meerendal this morning. Looks like it was remote jambing. WHen he got back to the parking lot it took a few attempt to get his car remote to work. They stole wallet and cell phone
  8. Petronas Syntium 0w40
  9. Not much has changed, even today there are some geometries that work for an individual and others that dont
  10. Pretty scary that a piece of the engine went right through the fuselage
  11. 19yrs old?
  12. Some dishwashing soap in water in a spray bottle. To get grips off shove a screw driver between the grip and the handlebar and spray into the gap. Do this in one or two places and grip slides off
  13. What type of gold plating is that?
  14. Good tip, wash your bike upside down. Less water can get in the fork and down the seat tube to the BB
  15. You wont believe how much water can end up in a fork. Sometimes strip a fork to service and have niagra falls out the bottom
  16. Degreaser is just that, it dissolves oil and grease. The smallest amount of degreaser left in the chain will destroy any lube
  17. Huh!! All chains are half inch pin to pin new Therefore 304.8mm per 24 links So new is 0% wear 11-12 speed: replace before 306mm8-10 speed: replace before 307mm
  18. Wow that is special even if its partly tupperware
  19. Sometimes too much washing is also bad. Wax lubes squish out from between the rollers and plates and take the crud with it. Just re-apply lube so that it gets inside and when its dry, ride. the wax will do the cleaning. When you wash a chain it takes a long time for the water inside the rollers to evaporate, and if you apply lube before that you trap the water.
  20. Cars have been broken into at Hoogekraal recently, even on a busy day
  21. My 2c having been around forks since their inception. I always advise someone looking for a bike that the 2 most important things is the size of the frame and the quality of the fork. I repair bikes and find the worst are the ones with chrome stanchions which rust pretty quickly which totally destroys the seals and bushed very quickly. A shock with aluminium stanchions is much better in my opinion.
  22. My favorite poem: Here lies the body of William Jay Who died maintaining his right of way He was right, dead right, as he sped along, But he's just as dead as if he were wrong
  23. Can you re-concider selling spokes to the end consumer. You sell hubs, cranks, cassettes to the end consumer which all require specialised tools and experience, surely spokes are the same. Local bike shops only stock standard spokes, not even double butted and I have not had much joy getting any other types of spokes through the bike shops.
  24. When you get a child their first bike take the pedals and if possible the cranks off so that they can get used to the new bike as a balance bike. When you see they have got the bike sussed put the cranks and pedals back on
  25. "I'm not sure what steel is for.... My memory of steel frames is not good. They all break. Reynolds 531c, 531P, 708, 753, Columbus SLX. Only one that didn't was an SPX track frame." You arent going to see many 40 or 50 yr old aluminium or carbon bikes in years to come, there are many steel bikes that age even doing rides like Eroica
