  1. I saw your post and thought you must mean profit of R100k (still fk all), not sales of R100k! If they're undercutting normal retail margins then you're making less than R5k per month - rather go and be a waiter 3 days a week (you can save your R350k and probably make more money!). R0 stock + almost R0 secured sales + R0 in brand name (can't be much of a brand with those sales!) + R50 domain name = R350k ??? I'd would honestly be interested to see if they could get R10k for the "business".
  2. I had my large 2010 X3 Anthem built at 11.6kg's with XT wheels (1680g) + Crossmark tubeless tyres (that includes bottle cage and pedals)... Still had original Raceface stuff on so might have gotten it to about 11.4 by replacing that... It did involve a full XX groupset though which would sink most of your budget by itself! I agree that sub 12kg's on a dual is not a cheap exercise if you're doing a reliable build (i.e. proper tubeless tyres + sealant)... I could have swapped the tyres for lightweight ones and gotten it to well under 11kg's, but definitely wouldn't have benefitted me in any way. I also don't trust a lot of the weights I have seen on the hub - think there's some helium stored in the frame! For R20k, 12.5 - 13kg is probably a good weight (probably a bit lighter on the shop floor as new bikes generally come with useless lightweight tyres so 12.5kg might be a reasonable mark)
  3. Why not get an Anthem X29 for basically the same price and, as far as I know, it has the same spec (apart from lower specced wheels unfortunately)? It's also a tried and tested design with very good feedback... Even with the cheaper, heavier wheels it can't be much heavier than that Momsen.
  4. Unfortunately Neil is a member of the hub so monitors posts like this... It is my understanding that the dodgy stuff is kept out of his store now as people had worked out that was the first place to look (I may be wrong, but I believe he has a fair collection of pricy machinery at his house that never seems to reach the open market). If it was stolen in the Southern Suburbs, it is possible that he knows where to find it (this is going on the +- 9 stolen bikes he has been caught with to date). I am sure it will be spotted once sold on to a new "owner" so just post about it everywhere you possibly can so people can look out for it - it is a fairly distinctive bike.
  5. How about a brand new set at 1260g (alu 20mm profile) for R3k brand new! Or 1360g for R2k! They're only a PM away
  6. How about a set of carbon Haven wheels to match the stem? Saw a set on one of those Cannondales at Cycle Lab in CTN and they look awesome!
  7. I'd say try your luck at R6k to start and see what happens - you'll definitely be able to get at least R5k for them. Decent demand still for deep section clinchers...
  8. Glad to hear that you're happy with them! Busy having an Anthem 29er built with a set of them at the moment for myself, hopefully will be ready to test on Wednesday evening...
  9. If you want to keep riding it and still want to upgrade then wheels and fork are the things to look at, they're going to make the biggest difference to your riding enjoyment! And if you look around on the hub you could get good quality brand new wheels and go tubeless for under R3k... As people say, hang on to the old stuff and change it back when you want to sell the bike one day. You're going to be disappointed if you spend it on the drivetrain... Apart from the bling factor, you will not notice much difference while riding (not enough to warrant the cost at least). Rather upgrade the drivetrain as it wears out than just for the sake of it...
  10. Purely out of interest, what is your association with "Customized Cycling"? This sounds a bit like an advert... Awesome looking groupset though! One day when I'm big I'll trade in my "old" Red... I wish!
  11. Assuming they quoted you for Mavic Crossrides being the entry level Mavic's, I have a brand new 2012 set for R2k (absolutely brand new, never been on a bike)... They take 6 bolt rotors (i.e. the rotors for your disc brakes will have 6 bolts which mount them on to the wheel rather than a single ring that screws in over the rotor to hold it on (have a look at your rotors, very easy to tell). If your current rotors are center lock, I have brand new Avid G3CS 160mm 6 bolt rotors I can throw in for an extra R200 (top end rotors).
  12. I haven't been on the bike lane in about 6 months, but the last time I was there (and every time before that) it was cleaner than the road. I do agree it was put there for both a safety and convenience purpose (and that's for motorists too, not only us cyclists!) so it would be in everyones best interests if you used it. It might be more convenient for you to ride in the road, but it isn't in the interests of the cars stuck behind you (and there is absolutely no shoulder there so no space for both a bike and a car in the left lane).
  13. The first weather report from Weather24 is looking fairly promising for race day! 25 degrees and 20km/h Easterly wind... Probably pretty meaningless this far in advance, but I really need all the help I can get! 30km Bay-to-Bay run tomorrow morning to finish up my running training and then a 50km cycle and a few swims next week to hopefully give me that little push to get to the finish line! No target beyond getting to the finish line for me though (if I can survive the swim then I should theoretically be safe!).
  14. Got my Cosmic SL's last week and done 2 rides on them (both afternoon rides around the passes in the south with strong winds). Got to say they are pretty horrible in the wind! Would not like to take them out when the wind really is blowing properly (and I'm no lightweight rider)... Would be very interested to compare them to 404's in the wind - apparently the Mavic's are far from the best in wind. But, they really look awesome on my bike and I will not give in and take them off! My time's also seem to have improved a bit over a 55km training ride both times I've been out (hard to say whether it's the wheels though, will need to do a few tests with both sets of wheels first). From my very limited experience of them and lack of anything to compare them to, I would probably recommend trying a few other brands before going for the Cosmics. All of those Chinese blank wheels that have been rebranded are basically the same, but built with different spokes (generally they use Novatec hubs also under varying brands - nothing wrong with them at all). The standard bladed spokes a lot of them have are heavy so very possible to save close to 200g's just by changing those. In my view, pick the cheapest ones and go with those if you want them... Remember you can always import them yourself for around R5k so make sure the price seems reasonable in comparison to that.
  15. You get a voucher for 20% of the frame's value, not a 20% discount from what I can see... That makes it R33k for the frame and VAT alone (not sure how their shipping costs work)... XX groupset does not cost R9k unless you have a seriously good secret to share with us. R35k sounds like a fair deal for a bike like that (I personally wouldn't pay that for a bike - but that's purely because I don't have it, not because I don't want to!)... Saving R20k on a bike that's in as good a condition as you say sounds like a great idea! Put a Specialized sticker on it and hubbers will pay R10k more than that for the same specced bike so take the opinions on what something's worth with a small pinch of salt!
  16. And it turned out I was one of the very few ppl without a wetsuit at it! After ordering it 2 weeks ago, it looks like it will be delivered tomorrow! Just in time to not use it for the race I bought it for... And I know how many ppl wore them because I got to watch almost every single one of them swim past me! Other than a horrible swim, what an awesome race for my first ever triathlon!
  17. Well, either that or his garage is now full of the stolen bikes and the shop is just a side thing... Would be very surprised if he proved his garage/house has no bikes other than his own right now. If he carried on dealing with stolen bikes so openly, he would go to jail soon, he had to become a bit more intelligent about it sometime! Still never justified any of the 8 or 9 odd stolen bikes he's been caught with which means he doesn't have any guilt about it (I would personally be running around trying everything to fix my reputation if I was found with even 1 stolen item and definitely wouldn't make the same mistake again!)... If you take stolen bikes on consignment, does that mean the thief now carries the risk instead of Neal as he only gets paid once the bike's slipped through undetected?
  18. The Crossmax's are very nice wheels, just replaced my own set a few weeks ago (just for the sake of something different)... If you're not doing massive milage then I personally don't think there is enough difference between the different options in a similar price range to really matter. If you're doing the milage then reliability becomes an issue and then you need to be careful about what you choose. Most people recommend wheelsets just because that's what they ride, not because they've tested every alternative and settled on the "best" option.
  19. In your price range, I can give you the following new wheelsets:- XTR M970 - R3,5k DT Swiss X1800 - R2,2k ZTR Olympic rims on Ringle Dirty Flea hubs - R3,2k
  20. I've got brand new XTR M970's for R1200 That will save you the hassle of waiting on customs! If you were in CT I'd join you for an order from them as I'm planning on ordering some stuff over the weekend probably...
  21. They're theoretically identical batteries in different casings so no stress (all the batteries are the same including the "3rd generation" battery with the hard case and blue light). Basically all the Magicshine lights use the same batteries and are fully interchangeable. The long life batteries are also the same, but just with more sets of batteries run in parallel to increase the capacity.
  22. If only you could see the number of PM's in my inbox guaranteeing me someone is going to buy something - I reply and then never hear from them again! It is seriously painful... think I've had about 7 people "taking" my 2 XT groupsets I currently have advertised and I still have both! I don't think I've had a bad deal buying stuff, but selling is seriously painful! I have also been guilty on one or two occasions of forgetting I said I'd buy something, but will always go through with it if/when I remember if I've said I will...
  23. Where do you get proper insurance for R80 pm?
  24. Don't stress yourself, that has nothing to do with the issue, that's a very minor side issue to the story that was resolved long ago...
  25. I reckon you should buy an XT 3x9 groupset from me for R4,500, a set of XTR M975 wheels for R5k (and I'll even let you swap the XT brakes for Elixir CR's for no extra cost if you prefer them and you take the wheels as well!). All new stuff...
