  1. My 7, 6 and 3 year old plays around at the Bike Park in Constantia, I just let them have fun, they ride over rocks, drop off, think sand and everything. I just make sure they don't do stuff not meant for them. I found it is better to leave them, otherwise they overthink things. I can see their skills improving automatically, the one figured out it is better to stand over the rock garden as opposed to remain being seated. The older boys are also figuring out how the gears worked. They actually a bit slower now that they figured out how the brakes work. I suppose there will come a time where a coach can accelerate/enhance things but I think the key is that they must have exposure to the terrain and ride often. Then they learn from watching the older boys doing their stuff. So investment should rather first go into trails/tracks, kids are uncomplicated and can learn alot on their own
  2. 2 x 500ml bottles for me and a few steamed potatoes on the 75km and refueled on the last WP. Honestly, you can get away with one bottle, there is sufficient water points to fill up the bottles if you not racing for podium
  3. My first 75km, lekker tough for me, but thoroughly enjoyed it. The Delvera Single Track rocked! So how did the e-bike category play out?
  4. I saw the fly by at Worcester MTB and we were in and around each other for most of the way until you dropped me. Abdul Raof Ryklief
  5. Oh no! not another online store Best wishes
  6. Did the 100 miler. My garmin finished on 163km. I saw the board that says 1 mile to go. That must have been the longest mile in my life. Great event, everything everybody said about the event is true, especially the last stretch. Perfect weather, was my first and definitely not my last. Kudos to those that was on the start line
  7. thanks, now I know I can finish it as well, what a loooooong day in the saddle
  8. If you want to finish it fast, top speed then go for the 34t, I never did the race before but the profile does not suggest that one's climbing will be tested. That is why I still love my 2 x 10, just get on and ride! Hey and enjoy!
  9. The organisers to comply would have to complete massive risk and contingency plans. riots and protest action form part of that. Then they have a trigger that sets off a certain contingency plan. So no last minute plans are made, only last minute decisions. Unfortunately, hosting an event with 30 000 plus participants requiring 108km, your contingencies are extremely limited.
  10. Tactically, if I was to protest against the 'authorities', then the CTCT was the best event to do it in. OMTOM, will be next.
  11. The weather will always have a say. You can't control that even if you move the date. Yesterday was perfect. What is worrying is future protest actions.
  12. I was totally hopeless at last year's XCO but absolutely enjoyed it. My arm still not 100% so going to miss being hopeless at this one.
  13. "SANParks communications manager for the Western Cape region Merle Collins explained that the Table Mountain Visitor Safety Unit was stationed on the mountain and comprised 100 rangers, 60 unit members and 12 dogs. She said the unit worked in conjunction with police, the department of community safety, the City of Cape Town, Metro police and civil society groups to enforce the law and ensure people’s safety." Ok, I got new spectacles in July 2016 but tend not to ride with them because it is not necessary for cycling, only for reading. Clearly I need to wear my specs all the time because I'm missing some stuff
  14. I think having more than one event on one day/weekend is going to be quite common. As I understand the 2 events are aimed at different crowds. But fully agree, one would expect more info, especially that it is literally around the corner. I'm keen to do the full marathon but require a bit more info. Otherwise I just buy permits at Oak Valley and Paul Cluver on the same day and do my own marathon on another day
  15. Is that elevation of 319m for the 75km route? If so, this seems a very flat race IMHO
  16. my elbow is broken so I'm out for the rest of the year but do hope there are more affordable 2 day stage races in the future. I really think there can be more.Affordable
  17. Origin of trails is like more than half the price and last year I did it for the first time and wish I had more time to eat. I don't have the time for 3 day events nor the funds. So affordable 2 day stage races are very welcomed.so come on knock that price down
  18. since you suggest baby formula dispensers, I suggest instead of a cloths, use wet wipes. Works brilliantly :-)
  19. Or could it just be that SA MTB pros are not really taking glory at the Cape Epic, WC XCO events and other international stuff? I know our DH dude is right up there.
