  1. Sad, very sad Another cyclist knocked down RIP
  2. I will never take a newbie to Tokai. I actually think that Tokai is dangerous if you clueless and have no skills to start off with (many of us had BMX's and tried silly things and we actually have inherent skills). I see many newbies pushing their bikes up (not DH bikes,), out of breath. I saw many stopping on ST as well. Of course we want newbies, we want more to love the great outdoors. But my advice to Newbie's is go to Koeberg Nature Reserve first, then try Meerendal a couple of times and then do Tokai, Jonkers or what ever you want to. I know many of us Tokai was our first experience and we survived. I will never advise a newbie to go to Tokai first. Some are naturals, for the rest take it easy first
  3. I think im a weekend warrior and enjoy the ppa funrides, for that moment on the start line and crossing the finish line I think im in the tour de f. So ppa works for me
  4. Wayne, you the man, you never gave up! Family, friends all the strength through this difficult time.
  5. Sorry to hear this boet, hope you find it
  6. Your dad a tough oke, all the best for ops, in thoughts and prayers
  7. The only advice I give a noob is hold ur line, dont worry about stats, peanut butter sandwiches and energade works fine, spend time in the saddle, make sure your bike works and go for bike fitment before spending money on anything else, I wish someone told me about the latter first up. 100km will tell you if you not setup correctly. Ride the bike!
  8. Cool! i'm not sure where I read it years ago. but glad it is not true.
  9. i would imagine it depends on the type of shock you have. generally you don't want peddle bobbing (not sure if that is the correct term). If i climb technical ST i don't lock the shock cos I hate bouncing rear wheels. On jeep track and tar I'm always fully locked out. Downhill and flats I let the shock do its work
  10. Question: i heard that if the temp is below 9deg C you should not cycle, cos the chill factor generated by speed makes it worst,is that true? I will be following this thread
  11. i love to stop and help people, even if they don't need my help, best way to catch my breath. Once a gave a power link away and four weeks later the oke tracked me down at mosque and gave me a new one back. Kudos!
  12. just a question, are there fakes for other brands as well? like scott, silverback, GT etc ?
  13. LBS is critical. it also depends on how good their relationship is with the agents.
  14. i've found Revolution Cycles great, parking can be an issue but then I work a block away so very convenient for me. A LBS within ear shout is worth its weight in gold.
  15. that is worrying? how many other shops could be doing it. I will be extremely gullable and would not be able to tell the difference if it is fake or not. So I'm actually easy picking
  16. i got it, it is ok'ish, much better apps out there but a start nevertheless
  17. LOL, nothing wrong with a 26er. I'm still gonna keep my 26er trail bike for Tokai, Jonkershoek and the social riding (views, eat, chat, ride and repeat). I want a lighter XC 29er for all those long gravel roads that we find in PPA races with a bit of single track. It is the N+1 rule that applies.
  18. going to head on there this weekend
  19. But I ain't Chuck Norris! you got some Kilo watts there boet! BTW, Saw a Scott 950 for R24 000, had it put on the scale and weighs 13,1kg. I'm making every LBS put their bikes on a scale for me.
  20. I'm not a pro so it doesn't matter what I say. I love road biking as much as MTB'ing. Hell, I'm even planning to get me vintage bike for commuting. give me a bmx and I will go on a bmx track and try my luck. I wanna also try my luck on a unicycle sometime, LOL I think Roadies have big or bigger balls than MTB'ers . and this is my reason, they go into every race and ride in pelaton knowing that any given time a mistake in the front can cause everyone to tumble and at most times there is bloody nothing you can do about it. You will crash into the guy in front of you at 40km/h and chances some will plough into you from behind. You could get a crank rip your head off at that speed, you can get badly hurt and it is not your fault nor or in your control, putting your body in the hands of other riders is definitely brave. Similarly these downhill okes do crazy stuff as well so I would say we are all cyclist, we are all brave, definitely braver than those sitting on the couch. I'm sure that there are many roadies that if they switch to MTB they will do well and vice versa.
  21. And that is what I will be doing. My 10yr old 11kg+ roadie I use for my daily commuting and road races. I think I deserve a light, faster, meaner etc bike but will continue using the kitchen sink for commuting, it doesnt solicit any interest thus far and save the new bike (whenever) for races.
