  1. 50km for me, best way to get going after Ramadan. Would have loved to have done the 75km but I wont have the power.
  2. My wife is 1,5. She does koeberg, lwr tokai kinda stuff. Bought her merida juliet 26er. Proper girlie bike, low top tube so she can stand comfortably. The handle bars are also slightly narrower cos women shoulders aint that broad. Perfect fit for her and it is a small, looks nice as well.
  3. The oke sized for the 27,5 er, whats his height. Im 1,68m and ride a med 29er XC. This bike fits me perfect and I come from a 26er trail bike small. Just asking
  4. Buy what you can afford. What is important is to get the geometry right for the type of riding you will be doing most of the time. I saw okes flying in races on bikes with v brakes and the bike made of steel. Just ride the bike and enjoy it. Newbies have no basis of reference anyway until they upgrade.
  5. My Discovery will stay in the parking lot, with all those electronics, no thank you.
  6. nou praat julle 'n mens lekker bang. I survived Argus 2009, I will make this, I'm much stronger too, the lack of long distance MTB is where I am coming up short. I will prepare well and save some gas for the last 20kms
  7. Go to their facebook page, the committee is active on that.
  8. I am in good shape, I climb well enough, cycle daily, did a 3:36 Argus this year in a slowbee group. I'm the whole August month at home (changing jobs) so I will get enough training in. I was actually planning to nail the first 30km, take a nice slow climb on the biggie climb and then cruise out the race and nail it in the last 10km. That was my tactic last year on the long Argus MTB Challenge. Nail the 'flats' ,and self preservation on the climbs and it worked. I'm not the fastest, but I can ride and climb whole day. I'm ditching the Camel Back and baggy shorts, I want to look like a race snake, Ek sal Smurfy's se plan gebruik, veiliger , LOL
  9. only have a dual sus, so good on that one. "HIER WORD NIE GESTAP NIE" I don't understand Afrikaans, I think at that point in the race I won't understand English either. Thanks for the 'buff' idea, will do. excited already. Is there some food at water station or do I have to carry the kitchen sink?
  10. The best kit is if it free, I dont care how it looks or what logo's are on it. So if you want me to ride with your brand for free, pm me. I commute daily and im well on my way to clocking 10 000kms for this year.
  11. Hi, entererd this race for the first time, in fact it will be my longest MTB ride ever, on my new bike as well. what are the experiences of okes who have done the ride before? I see a nasty 10 km climb, yippee. any tips? ideas? thoughts as I start mentally preparing myself.
  12. Just amazed by the comraderiee, sharing of beers, suckers. Pushing ur buddy whilst taking a piss. Extraordinary stuff. Different era,I know we in a different era but somehow I feel there was a greater sense of sportsmanship. Great footage
  13. Glad you lived to tell the tale, I probably would have just wet my pants
  14. Last year I bought the merrel bib and top, I think it looks cool and took it on account. Did the mtb challenge , washed it and the black turned white/grey. Took it back, they offered me a replacement which I refused and they reversed the payment. Must say the oke at due south handled it well, I didn't want the replacement cos the same would have happened. They reckon the new ones dont have that issue.
  15. Kudos to this shop!
  16. Just bought a spez epic and must say looks played a big part, my wife saw it in the shop and she even said she loves the looks and normally she dont bother with my bike. Im collecting it tomorrow and since Ramadan is starting I will be looking at it for the next month
  17. I think you must speak to the Tokai and Table Mountain Bikers guys, they would probably have the best insight into this and the relationships with the authorities to pursue such a venture. I will be of the first to want to ride it. and if I can help in anyway I will, not sure how though
  18. Sad way to go. Hiker harmless. Life is worth nothing sor these scumbags
  19. Ppa membership is not alot, I do enough ppa events to get my money back. Race number convenient and you dont start with the slowbies cos im seeded lekker in the middle. I have annual tokai permit cos I ride tokai, rhodes often enough. I love the tygerberg trails but dont ride it often enough so happy to pay daily fees. I hope to change that because if you link the tygerberg trails you get a mal ride but then you need a membership. Ppa works for me.
  20. i will surely use, provided it is kept simple, no chats (we got the hub for that).
  21. i will create segments. I'm almost 39 and I think my best years of volleyball was when I was 32years old. Cycling, the best is yet to come before I fade out. I'm still aiming for a Sub 3 Argus before that day arrives. Deep stuff
  22. As naas would say "at the end of the day its whats on the scoreboard that counts" So long it is under your own steam Sometimes the wind is at ur back and robots are green
  23. The argus said charges withdrawn, mediation successful and the matter settled out of court Mmmmmmm, ek se maar niks
