  1. Your whole family better be there to cheer you on, they actually have no excuse!
  2. The fact that you think things through is a sign of intelligence so it is a pity you cutting yourself short here. Everyone gave sound advice. Follow your passion and learn to master your craft.I'm sure the TDF mechanics got there by mastering their craft and not degrees. It will require grit, perseverance and passion.
  3. both of my eldest sons have Titan Hades 20 inch, which I got second hand for cheap. the one has V-brakes and the other one disc brakes (cables). They solid bikes and frankly, I don't see the point at this stage over investing into something they will be outgrowing soon. I have 2 Titans 16 inches in the garage that they did not ride long either
  4. I saw a bakkie spinning through the mud and spraying that car. A bit of momentum and feathering the accelerator cud have done the trick
  5. Did 70km. In my view, a superb event. Mud and all. Well done to organisers
  6. Invaders weren't that bad. You bought it when you couldn't afford a hansom or le jeune. I am with Eugene, fix it for the heck of it
  7. I'm not sure if weight has anything to do with it. It is not only travel that is a factor but also geometry. If you want to xcm fast as possible then xc. But if you not worried about 'position" then 120mm and enjoy the downhills. I originally got a trail bike cos I thought I would enjoy trail riding and I did. But xcm bug bit me so now I have a xc bike. So it boils down to personal preference
  8. I bought 4 titans already . two 16 inches then two 20 inches. All bought on Bikehub/gumtree for cheap and in excellent condition. Kids outgrow them quickly
  9. Get what ever you want, but get a bike fit too.
  10. As said before, recover fully. The miles are not going anywhere. Then enjoy it again. Look after your bike and it will look after you
  11. https://www.cwcycles.co.za/product/super-help-latex-sealant-1l Any folks use this product? how does it compare to Stans, and can one mix the two?
  12. Shortly after 9/11 I flew to Namibia on hiking trip. I was hassled cos of my multitool and msr stove (empty). Then I get metal knives and forks to eat my meal. Lol
  13. Don't take co2 with, mine got confiscated. My cousin's wife worked at airport and she was instructed to confiscate them. Im sure there are inconsistencies, I would rather leave them at home
  14. I love long distance xc races and do a few a year. My family responsibilities and wife now crazy about running so Im limited to how many races I can do. I think there are sufficient one day bargains in the WC. My only stage race is origins. But the 3 day stage races are beyond me in terms of total costs.I do think the bubble has burst. With my annual permits for TM and bike park, I got my money back ten fold. Too many options diluting the pool, that's good and bad
  15. No 75km Invitational? sorry chaps, will give this a miss. I am not going to wake up early, pay, drive through to do a 50km, cost benefit ratio. I thoroughly enjoyed the 75km last year. Common guys, get the 75km going again, it was awesome last year!
  16. My kids progressed from titan 16 to 20 , so I started looking at 24's. All i can say is that they both heavy and can't see how the one is really better than the other. They very much the same. I rode neither so can't comment on the ride. All I can say is that I will buy a second hand titan 24 on the hub like I did with the 16 and 20's (I bought 2 sets of each size cos my boys are a year apart).
  17. I like the rear brain shock, I've had it for 4 years and can't complain. Im sure others might have different experiences. Brain swings it for me, but alas, I will ride anything
  18. I don't think you stirring. We understand the rules and there are solid points being made. I think the common ground is we don't want to "exclude kids from enjoying something with other kids"
  19. Really, Bike manufacturers really only make the frame. So it is more a situation of getting the right geometry for your body and type of riding style. And each brand tend to have frames & travel for all the 'disciplines. So testing various bikes is probably ideal. As they would say in order of priority - Frame, then Wheels and then Groupset
  20. in my previous job I worked with offenders, one such man was a senior citizen from Camps Bay who suffered a burglary. He done the insurance thing and one of the items was a R140k Rolex watch. The insurance caught him out. How? simple, when they went to the house for an assessment or something, he had the Rolex on his arm. Apart from the Fraud charge, they also had to charge him for being stupid.
  21. I was placed 55th, so definitely not on the sharp end but the mergers was not an issue for me. The folks gave way as soon as they see you coming and not being a single track race, there were ample space to pass.
  22. Great race, took a wrong turn with a-b bunch,we all had to turn around. Lol . Some missed that swampy detour. I love the sand.my calves are sore walking up that one k@k climb????. 75km is a tough one. Will be back next year. Well done to organisers
  23. Got one, can't complain about the light and functioning thereof, satisfied. The battery pack strap thingy magig is not so cool. Prefer that padded velcro pack of extreme lights that I'm using on my other bike. For that price, it is still value for money
