  1. Kinesio tape works well. Put its on the side you breathe, from about below your ear to the back.
  2. Good luck guys! Sounds like a good event, a little bummed I can't be there. Remember to lube that neck or use some tape between your neck and the top of your new wetsuit as it tends to chafe there.
  3. True I know they don't fix Garmin products, but all stories I've heard about Garmin and customer service has been pretty good. As for the spoke, seems it was a rushed job. The chain, they could have called me and told me of the damage
  4. So I am all for helping my LBS, this is one store though that one should never visit! Not once, not twice but three times have I had poor service from Concept Cyclery. 1st problem: my Garmin watch broke and needed to be replaced, as they are an authorized dealer and distributor I took my watch to get it seen to and possibly fixed/replaced. It took them 2months for any feedback, with me calling them weekly to get any feedback and constant nagging, I finally got my watch back (albeit a new one). 2nd problem, broke a spoke on my wheel, took it to them to get it replaced, with strict instructions to have it by Friday (this was Monday), didn't have it done on time on the Friday, came back in 30mins and it was done. Needless to say the spoke broke the next ride 3rd problem, got mtn bike serviced there, they put a new chain on (only done 500km odd on the old chain) without informing me. R500 hit for the new chain, chain broke within 3km of being on. Maybe I was just extremely unlucky, but not impressed by the poor service and total lack of communication

I don't think this is true IMHO! If you put in the training you can ride a sub 3hrs but almost impossible if you not starting in the right group near the front!
  6. The most important tip is: enjoy yourself! If you feelin ***, slow down, enjoy the scenery and the crowds, gather yourself and carry on going! Also smile and wave back to spectators, they're there for you! Show some appreciation dammit!
  7. Practice running after cycling! You can do as much running and cycling training as you want, but not being used to the feeling of coming off the bike and starting to run may result in cramps
  8. If you are not a great swimmer, or the last time you got into a pool was with armbands, then visit your local gym and ask the swimming coach/instructor (mostly there around 5-6pm doing coaching lessons) to help improve your swimming stroke/technique. This will hepl build confidence and save (much needed) energy while reducing time spend on race day in the water
  9. Eat while you are cycling, you will need the nutrition and energy the food will give you for the rest of the cycle and for the run. Eating while runnin is hard at the best of times. Hydrating should also be a necessity
  10. On the cycle leg, avoid pushing too big gear. This will tire your legs for the run later on. Rather choose a light gear with a high cadence

What is a gauge to compare the times for this race against other races? Any ideas....

They did. I got mine about an hour ago. Starting in A batch. Oh the pain........
  14. Always drop the kids off before putting on your wetsuit. However weeing in your wetsuit in considered acceptable as a method of staying warm
  15. Break the race down into sizeable portions. Focus on the swim, then the cycle and finally the run. Be proud of yourself for completing each discipline. The morale boost will left your spirits

How did you enter? I only see entries opening on 1 Sept
  17. Another happy customer here who was helped by Tim at Solomons!
  18. Long story - chain broken so gonna do the cassette and chain change combo, and due to shortage of parts can only find a 12/25 cassette. I hardly sit in the big ring in the back so dont think it will affect me too much there. Bit concerned about losing top end speed tho
  19. I'm changing from a 11/28 to a 12/25. Will it affect my riding?
  20. I currently use a compact crank and an 11/28 cassette? Would it matter if I change that to a 12/25 cassette? or do I need to change the chainset too? What would be the ideal cassette to change to? All these numbers and ratios are confusing me - Help needed
  21. If you wanna do some hill training, ride along Kloof rd in Bedfordview and then drop down to van Buuren, turn around and ride up the same road. I think there are 5 roads. Also from Kloof rd turn left onto van Buuren and then ride along and turn left into the boomed areas. Not too long climbs but decent gradient!!
  22. You just don't want to do it cos you cant stand.......
