  1. Sad news and condolences to the man's friends and family! Makes me think the importance of knowing basic CPR techniques. Maybe a topic for a different thread....
  2. You mention free apps. Which ones are you referring to? Thanks
  3. Hi Not sure if it's been mentioned before, but on the ads of something, it should be mandatory to insert a size. It's very frustrating to see a product you like, then have to open the ad to see it's not my size.
  4. I agree with the others above (I'm using IM knowledge here, as I have only completed 1 TB and that was pretty chilled) but would be to start building your base now. Focus more on time in the saddle at the moment. Get a solid base and be consistent. Then when you're crunched for time, concentrate on solid, interval sessions during the week and long rides on the weekend. When you're travelling, try eat health (easier said than done), and do lotsa cross training; functional training (HIIT body weight training; burpees, dips, push ups - there's loads of videos on youtube) and take your takkies and even if it's a 5 or 8km, it will help your anaerobic conditioning. But consistency is your friend!
  5. It sounds like you've had some horrible luck in the past! Hopefully you don't have that in the future. I feel a little different to some of the things you have said, you should always go in with a planned time, then that motivates you to train hard and consistently. Mechanicals happen, crashes happen, it's how you deal with them. Don't go in having planned to fail, cos then you will. Also think you need your team to work on their weaknesses, like you, you can't ride in a bunch. No point you burning matches the whole day sitting on the front. If your partner is k*k on climbs, he better do a bunch of training on hills so he doesn't frustrate his team mates or negate their strengths. Think you might need to relook at your strategy of TB. Just my 2 cents, take it or leave it.

    The Munga 2019

Think he's referring to Myles van Musschenbroek - local pro who rides for Protouch.
  7. Hey Furbz Glad the lady is on the mend! Sorry to hear about your old man! From what I hear he's as tough as nails so hoping for a full recovery! Hopefully see you on the bike soon!
  8. What's the weight of this beaut?
  9. Hi My wife is looking to sell her Garmin 220 (or might be Garmin 225), hardly used and she only used it for running. It comes with a built in heart rate reading. PM me for more info, pics and price
  10. Awesome story! That's the spirit of mountain biking! Hope it retains that emotion
  11. Hi all. It was our first Transbaviaans and my partners first real race. He basically starting training consistently from around March this year. So the strategy was always for him to do as little work as possible. The corrugation is horrible till CP 3, so we hid in groups as much as possible. Also the tail wind was a massive help. We blasted up the hills, riding more to heart rate than speed. The Neverender definitely lived up to it's expectation, as it just went on and on! So don't lose patience there, we found a good rhythm and slowly worked our way up, also the wind had changed, so had to pace ourselves into the head wind. In hindsight we probably stayed a little too long at the CPs, but who won't wanna chat to those lovely americans at CP4, and then regale our day's events to our supporters at CP5 and CP7. A fantastic race and a well measured effort saw us coming in stopping the clock at 12:29! To the guys doing the Repeat, enjoy the day and remember your smiles!
  12. I had the same thoughts and echo your sentiment below. Blackjacks are sh*t and should be removed. As for it being too bumpy, skip it out, next thing you'll probably say is that there too many roots and these should be removed........
  13. I'm flying from JHB, my team is driving from CT. So would add at least 2hrs to their travel time
  14. Question - is it better to fly out of George or PE? I see George is 3hrs away from Jbay and PE about 1hr. I'll be flying into George and be picked up by my team coming from CT. Obviously they'll be heading back to CT on Sunday. Thanks
  15. Aren't they located at Troisport cnr of William Nicol and Republic?!
  16. Also use Conti's like OP. When I train, I ride 6 bar front and back, weight is 95kgs. Haven't had any problems with the tires. During races, pump them to 8 bar.
  17. Has RB stopped? Gees this is too exciting!
  18. Is that even considered a ride? If there is no Garmin = no strava = no ride.......
  19. I want your garage when I'm big! Love the tennis picture! Good luck with the build
  20. Great day out riding! I've done the Monster a couple years ago, but definitely enjoyed this route more! No free miles and not like the Trailseekers where it's pretty much a road race on a district road. The climb was great and enjoyed this descent rather than going down Breedts. Came in just over 4hrs, legs cramping, hands sore but had a big smile on my face! Well done guys for a well organised event
  21. I am looking for a decent route to ride South from Jhb approx. 160kms to 230kms. Would be a bonus to end at some awesome accommodation for the night where the WAGs can meet us. The route needs to avoid highways (a given), a decent enough shoulder and good road surface. Any suggestions would be most welcome!
