    Triathlon ......

What's everyone's take on nutrition on race day? I know a good breakfast is imperative (mine is futurelife and a banana with a coffee) but while I'm racing, what's the plan. I did the 70.3 a couple years ago, didn't really have a great eating plan and totally bonked on the last half of the run. Suggestions? Products? Home remedies?

How's everyone's training going in this terrible JHB weather. Not ideal for getting out onto the bike or for a run!

  6. Ah thanks for the heads up! Looks like its going to be an interesting day out! Looking forward to the challenge
  7. +1 regarding advice! A bit of a nuubie regarding this event. Also I know its not a race but what is the average speed? Expected time of finish?
  8. How many riders are riding on Sunday? Do we need to carry all our own food? Or will there be a seconding car?

    Triathlon ......

I just got the email from IMSA saying that a spot has opened for me in April and I have 24hrs to take it. I'm nervous, scared and excited all at the same time! Eish, now is the time to take the plunge and enter.
  12. I bought a set of wheels last week and done a couple of training rides on them and they are great! Lookin forward to racing on them on Sunday! Also Leonard is fantastic to deal with, he will go out of his way to make you happy and satisfied
  13. Didn't the guys at Hunter Cycles do this a couple months ago!? This would be an awesome event!
  14. Anything as long as it is a 29er!
  15. Is the water safe to swim in?
  16. Kinesio tape works well. Put its on the side you breathe, from about below your ear to the back.
  17. Good luck guys! Sounds like a good event, a little bummed I can't be there. Remember to lube that neck or use some tape between your neck and the top of your new wetsuit as it tends to chafe there.
  18. True I know they don't fix Garmin products, but all stories I've heard about Garmin and customer service has been pretty good. As for the spoke, seems it was a rushed job. The chain, they could have called me and told me of the damage
  19. So I am all for helping my LBS, this is one store though that one should never visit! Not once, not twice but three times have I had poor service from Concept Cyclery. 1st problem: my Garmin watch broke and needed to be replaced, as they are an authorized dealer and distributor I took my watch to get it seen to and possibly fixed/replaced. It took them 2months for any feedback, with me calling them weekly to get any feedback and constant nagging, I finally got my watch back (albeit a new one). 2nd problem, broke a spoke on my wheel, took it to them to get it replaced, with strict instructions to have it by Friday (this was Monday), didn't have it done on time on the Friday, came back in 30mins and it was done. Needless to say the spoke broke the next ride 3rd problem, got mtn bike serviced there, they put a new chain on (only done 500km odd on the old chain) without informing me. R500 hit for the new chain, chain broke within 3km of being on. Maybe I was just extremely unlucky, but not impressed by the poor service and total lack of communication
  20. Also look at Fluidlines.co.za

    Argus 2014

I don't think this is true IMHO! If you put in the training you can ride a sub 3hrs but almost impossible if you not starting in the right group near the front!
  22. The most important tip is: enjoy yourself! If you feelin ***, slow down, enjoy the scenery and the crowds, gather yourself and carry on going! Also smile and wave back to spectators, they're there for you! Show some appreciation dammit!
  23. Practice running after cycling! You can do as much running and cycling training as you want, but not being used to the feeling of coming off the bike and starting to run may result in cramps
  24. If you are not a great swimmer, or the last time you got into a pool was with armbands, then visit your local gym and ask the swimming coach/instructor (mostly there around 5-6pm doing coaching lessons) to help improve your swimming stroke/technique. This will hepl build confidence and save (much needed) energy while reducing time spend on race day in the water
