He fell really hard and has been well behaved since then.
He has been riding one of my bikes for almost a year
I lent him my Tallboy when they came to spend a weekend with us and the 1st thing he did was try a wheelie. He ended up on his back in the dirt as he touched the front brake instead of the back one.
I bought him his own geared 29er
Thanks for the info.
BTW - He weighs a mere 95kgs (mostly muscle). His technical skills are sublime.
The 1st bike I lent him was an aluminum frame one. Within 2weeks he was doing "small jumps" so I took it away and gave him my steel frame GT.
Hello fellow Hubbers,
My daughter's boyfriend will be in your area for the next two weeks on holiday. He has just converted from a free style mx rider to mtbing a few months ago.
If anyone one has a spare medium/large mtb to loan him and has the time to ride with him , he is very keen to ride at Jonkershoek.
He has taken his cycling kit with him.
Send me a PM if you can assist.
Thank you.
Craig
We are also down to 3 bikes each
DS 29er mtb
SS 29er mtb
road bike
My current set up is:-
DS bike -Front - Rocket Ron Snakeskin 2.25 Rear Racing Ralph Snakeskin 2.25 ( Only done one ride with Rocket Ron tyre so I can't comment on it)
SS bike - Front - Nobby Nic Snakeskin 2.25 Rear Racing Ralph Snakeskin 2.25
I was a big fan of Conti tyres due to their durability and puncture resistance but I bought a bike with Racing Ralphs and I have really enjoyed the bigger volume and ride feel.
Our area is very rocky and we have had no issues with sidewall cuts.
All my admin is done and paid for:-
Race entry ,accomodation, meal package and appropriate outfit

I just placed an order with Wantitall as I needed to get something for my single speed costume and I could not find it locally.
Hopefully it will be worth it
We used to do a 140km from Dullstroom into Kwena basin and back as part of the Spinman Epic training camps . There is a spaz shop at the turn around point.
Unfortunately I don't have this route on my garmin but maybe other hubbers do.
I had also been lazy. All eight of our tyres had to be topped up over the holidays after the 1st two punctures did not seal due to lack of sealant.
One of my riding buddies commute with a 1000 lumen white light on flasing mode. Even in the brightest daylight, you can see him coming a couple of hundred metres away. I'm so impressed, I've ordered one for each of my family and to hell with giving people epeleptic fits.
I had a similar output front light and had a few cars flash their lights for me to dim it. At least I knew that I had been seen.
My red rear light was a 100 lumen one - had a few queries from motorcyclists asking where I had bought
We did not go overboard in terms of trying to ride everyday during my 2 weeks leave.
Our stats are:-
Kms = 492
Hours = 28
Ascent = 6067m
Kgs lost = 2kgs ( target is another 2kgs by Lowveld Quest in April)
All on mtb

We will be leaving at about 9am on Friday. Have to let the fog and smog disperse first.
